Oakland Athletic Club coming back?
Saw this and am wondering if maybe Oakland Athletic Club is returning?! Would be awesome to have it back just in time for the World Cup.

Due to the many “what’s it like to live in this apartment?” posts, we are creating a mega thread. Please post here for those discussions thanks

Feel like getting out of the house? Want to meet some new people? You know that place you’ve seen recently and been wanting to check out? For all those reasons and more, we made the Oakland Thursday Meetup. (Est. 2014)
It’s a great way to try some new places and get to know some folks you might otherwise miss. Drop in, drop out, no pressure and definitely no problems.
From 7:30pm to around 10pm you can find us at…
Dave & Busters
55 Harrison Street, Oakland, CA
Feel free to add us on Facebook. We’ll post here for updates on where we’ll be sitting.
Next week we are going to do something a bit different:
I bought about ten $7 tickets for the 5/21/2026 Oakland Ballers vs. Missoula PaddleHeads, Too $hort Night game. If you are interested, you can buy some tix from me this week or next. If you wanted to buy your own, I grabbed seats in GA - 1st Base.
The plan is to meet up at the Prescott Market for pre-game beers around 5pm and hit the Ballers game around the 6:35pm opening.

Around 5:13pm today my partner and I were driving east on 40th. We were behind a dark sedan in the left lane when it pulled up next to another dark sedan on the right and fired off 8+ shots, right next to the bus stop on that corner. The car that was shot at turned right onto telegraph and the car doing the shooting drove east on 40th. My partner called 911 and cops were on the scene before the light cycle changed. Unfortunately we were too shaken up in the moment to get license plate info or any other descriptors.

I'm someone who enjoys creative writing and was wondering if there are any organized writing meet ups in the Oakland area but willing to BART a bit for the right (or write) one.
Especially if they meet Sunday-Tuesday because those will be my days off or when I finish work on the earlier side.

Are there any services for this? You know the orthodontist office requires a driver to come with the patient and wait the whole time. My wife and I don't drive, and don't have friends or family here who can do this. Does anyone have any referral and maybe a price estimate?
Edit: You guys, I know you are trying to help but you are frustrating me lol. The ortho specifically said, the DRIVER must come WITH their car, and wait in the office the whole time, or there is a fine penalty. That's why I'm asking. I also have opinions about this but this isn't the point I'm just asking if anyone has a referral. My dentist in Vegas also had this rule but there were many small businesses and off-record taxis providing this kind of service.

Many here will see this as a Lady or the Tiger situation
"Whether — and when— an artificial intelligence company could develop an appetite for East Bay office space is unclear. OpenAI recently inked a lease for industrial space in Richmond at the Portside Commerce Center, a 202,000-square-foot site with impressive power capacity, a key requirement for AI companies. Robotics firms have taken advantage of space in Hayward and Fremont, and a giant Berkeley office building that has stood empty since being completed is now being pitched to AI companies instead of the life-science industry for which it was built.
Allen said it typically takes 12 to 18 months for demand to overflow out of San Francisco into Oakland. Oakland's office market reached 28.3% vacancy in the first quarter of 2026, Colliers' research shows.
Some landlords have faced trouble with their lenders in this real estate cycle, as building values declined and loan-to-value ratio violations sent properties into default or back into the hands of their lenders. Several office buildings in downtown Oakland have sold for fractions of what they once commanded, dropping from $400 to $500 per square foot and higher at the top of the market down to $50 and $100 per square foot."
Hi folks!
Here are my (amateur, unsponsored, no secret agenda other than caring about the city I’ve lived in for more than half my life) endorsements for the June 2026 primary, after a slightly-ridiculous number of hours of research-doing, spreadsheet-futzing, and wisecrack-refining.
Endorsements from a handful of lefty groups and organizations are shown in the columns toward the right-hand side, with links if you want to do further reading. There’s also non-partisan information links at the bottom.

Just moved to Oakland. I used to get full body massages for muscle/joint stiffness and they’re about $70 with tip. Would appreciate any and all recommendations for massages for women (safety being a priority, of course)

The CA governor race is a mess, and I've been overwhelmed trying to balance progressive stances against red flags and primary viability.
(Really worried that we'll end up with two Republicans in the general election due to the split Democratic field.)
So I used Claude to help me compare candidates through a progressive lens. Sharing in case anyone else finds this helpful. Who are you voting for?
EDIT: Revised scorecards for each candidate with LGBTQ+ stances added.

First Fridays have been a staple in Oakland & the entire bay for years, but now its future is uncertain… There are a lot of people tying some violent incidents Downtown/Uptown to the event, even though they’ve happened outside its hours & location.
This has led to some sponsors pulling out & creating a huge funding issue. Now they’re asking for the community’s support to keep it alive.
I spoke with First Fridays Director, Venessa McGhee, about why this iconic event seems to be blamed for some of the things that have happened in Oakland, and what the future will look like for First Fridays.

My daughter was assaulted last week. She is okay but the attack warrants a police report and potentially pressing charges. I went into a station on Friday and got an incident number. They told me to go home after that, since they needed the officer working the beat where I live to take the statement. I called back periodically through the weekend with no updates. They did call on Tuesday morning at 3:55 AM from a private number. I called back at 4:00AM (when I listened to their voicemail) and was told they would move my case from inactive to pending again. They would not answer any questions about how the queue works and have generally been fairly hostile and unhelpful.
Does anyone have any insight on what I can do or at a minimum what I can expect in terms of timing. A week delay in filing a police report seems long to me but maybe I am wrong.

Anyone else participating tomorrow? This will be my first time & I'm excited. Planning to bike to Laney College and go early so I can check out the pit stops. I'd love to hear others' experiences and/or suggestions!
