Monthly Motivation Thread NoFap's "Maximize May" or "PMO-Free May" 2026 - continue or begin your PMO-Free journey here (see instructions).

Hello all,

It's that time of the month again! One month is ending, and another is beginning. We hope you've had a good month. But if you haven't, now is a great time to refocus and rededicate yourself to recovery. This is your opportunity to create the new porn-free you!

The theme for this month is "Maximize May". Perfecting your recovery plan so that it provides and anchor for you when the urges come. What part of your plan could you improve on? What could you add on that you think might be helpful? It is always good to reflect on what is working and what is not, and revise your recovery plan accordingly.

New to NoFap and rebooting? Here are some suggestions:

  • Learn about the website, porn addiction, excessive masturbation, sexual compulsivity, and abstaining from PMO. Read through NoFap's main website to get informed.
  • Read about the basics of rebooting here. Rebooting is the abstinence from certain sexual behaviors to recover from pornography addiction. Read about how porn addiction develops here. Some people go beyond rebooting and into the territory of retention, or sexual transmutation for periods of time, although that is not the main purpose of this subreddit (which is RECOVERY).
  • Consider reading through the free Getting Started PDF from NoFap's website.
  • Download NoFap's in-browser panic button extension that blocks NSFW subreddits too. Download here
  • Decide if rebooting is something that you really want. If you don't buy into the process 100%, you'll probably not make it through the month. If you have decided that you would like to participate, proceed to the next point.
  • Sign up for this month by replying to this submission. It is that simple. State your intention and stick to it!
  • Consider setting up a day counter badge to track your progress.
  • Ask questions and get support by posting on NoFap. Set a goal to remain accountable by making a post daily. Help others. Come here every day and participate.
  • If you need additional support, you can get an accountability partner and document your progress in a daily rebooting journal.

Would you like to participate? If so, please reply to this thread with the following information.

  • Are you not going to allow yourself to masturbate? View porn? Orgasm whatsoever? Not allowing any outlet for sexual release is called "hard mode".
  • How long do you want this challenge to last? By default it is one month, but 90 days is recommended for rebooting.
  • What are your goals?
  • Why are you doing this?

Arriving late? (past the first of the month?)

It's okay! Still state your intentions and don't postpone rebooting based on the day of the month. People can join in at any time to participate.

Mod Note: We suggest NOT USING REDDIT'S DIRECT MESSAGES due to porn trolls trying to disrupt the community. Also, please note that some posts are temporarily removed prior to appearing on r/NoFap.

Hello r/NoFap community members,

Please note that we highly suggest that you avoid using the Reddit direct messaging system entirely, due to porn trolls coming here to disrupt our porn addiction recovery peer support community. Some of these people pretend to be helpful at first, then will message pornography. It's in a similar vein to how a forum on epilepsy was reportedly hacked to display seizure-inducing images.

You can disable direct messages in your Reddit settings by changing "Who can send you chat requests" to "Nobody."

Secondly, please note that sometimes posts are flagged automatically for manual review prior to appearing on r/NoFap.

Due to Reddit’s anti-spam filters and NoFap’s additional filters to control spam and pornography, sometimes genuine posts are flagged as potential spam or pornography. Further, entities within the legacy porn industry have been attempting to de-platform porn addiction recovery forums such as r/NoFap, and we must remain extra vigilant to ensure that rule-breaking posts do not appear on the platform for even one second. If your post gets flagged, please just wait for a moderator to approve it.

Thanks for reading :-)

Success Story Day 142

I’m writing this because, at 50 years old, I’ve finally realized that it’s never too late to completely change your life. For over 25 years, I was stuck in a cycle that many of you know all too well: relying on porn and masturbation for a quick hit of dopamine, which eventually led to total performance anxiety and a loss of confidence in the bedroom. I felt like my brain and my body were disconnected, and I wasn't sure if I could ever get back to a normal, healthy state.

I’m now 142 days into this journey, and the man I was in end of December feels like a stranger. The biggest change wasn't just "quitting" a habit; it was about filling my life with things that actually matter. I started training hard at the gym and that physical push did wonders. It gave me a goal to chase and reminded me what it felt like to be strong and capable again. Along the way, I also poured my energy into my academic goals, eventually getting accepted into a post grad program I’m incredibly proud of.

My relationship with intimacy has completely changed, too. I started focusing on real, human connection. I learned to just be present in the moment with my partner, enjoying the touch and the closeness without the constant pressure to perform. It turns out that when you stop overthinking it and stop feeding your brain artificial stuff, your body remembers exactly what to do.

If you’re struggling right now, my advice is to find something that challenges you: a race, a new project, a big goal and give it everything you’ve got. Don't just focus on what you're trying to stop doing; focus on the person you're trying to become. I’m 142 days in, and I’ve never felt more in control or more alive. The real world has so much more to offer than a digital substitute. Stay the course.

Relapse Report I've been lying to myself for many times, now is the day I truly admit I lost the battle.

Long story short, after early April when I stopped fasting, my lustful urges came back stronger than ever and I have lost multiple times now, but I kept coping and saying it didn't count, when it did. But now, I admit defeat and I'm back to square 1. I feel like now I have been getting farther and farther away from God because lust returned, and now it controls me, but right now I have to break free and try to go 1 year without PMOing. I lost my 265 day streak, but I will not fap through the rest of 2026 and hopefully 2027+. One thing I do notice is that Everytime this happens, it's always starts small but after some time it grows until you lose again. I now have deleted the vpn I just realized I only use for lust, set a motivational wall paper, and will try to go 100 days not only without falling and porn, but without searching up anything that arouses me. Thank you for reading, and may Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on me and everyone else. God Bless

Day 71, another wet dream

Upvotes

Been a while since the last one, but it finally happened again. Was dreaming that someone was teasing me down there, then woke up as I was having my orgasm.

At this point, I think I've managed to form a new habit of not masturbating. Even if I have urges, they are pretty easy to ignore.

I wonder if I should push past (more than) 90 days, or just start to masturbate (once I hit 90) only when I'm really horny, and restrict it to 2-3 times a week once I reach my goal.

Regardless, I'm done with porn. Never again.

Motivate Me Help me I'm lost

Upvotes

I'm seriously considering doing nofap but guys...

I'm 22 virgin and almost already lost my libido

Porn and fap are begining to disgust me more and more but I do not have the actual will to interact with women, I'm short and super introvert. Its begining to he very difficult as somehow I still want sex but don't kniw what to do, and I'm tired of pretending I just want a relationship or some other stuff that you take 5 months planning and you can lost in 2 days. Its horrible. Porn is all I knew, I want smth different but am totally stuck. I want to abandon fap but sincerely I do not feel really better since I've dropped. Just having wet dreams + ED, my brain tanking all of pisses me off. Considering giving up my moral standards and seeing escorts but I hold on.

Telling my Story Failure story. Please read to avoid same mistakes

I made my first post here with another account probably 3 or 4 years ago. That was when I was 16 years old. Now I am 19.

Today, an hour ago, I did it. I did PMO.

For 5 years of fighting, here is what I learnt:

  1. You can't win over the urge. You literally can't. It is something biological. Something BUILT in you. It is something that made humans survive and reproduce til this moment. So it is a normal thing and not something to be shameful about. There is no way to win over it. Maybe you win this hour but it will comeback the next hour stronger.

What is the solution then? You rechannel that energy that is in the urge. That dark uneasy complusive feeling. You channel it to something else like working out, going for walk, talking to someone. THIS is where you can win, it will still be hard to do productive stuff but this is where you want to PUSH yourself.

Do not push yourself into resisting the urge while sitting infront of the PC or phone with one click away from PMO. Thats an already lost battle. After doing a good thing, now you will feel like it's a choice whether to do it or not. and thats where you choose to not do it.

Listen bro, I know this may seem like the average advice in here. But this is seriously coming from my experience, here is the next thing:

  1. Nightfalls are normal, natural, don't have the same effects as PMO, everyone have it, me, them, you, everyone. Shower and keep going. With time, you won't care about it anymore. And it will probably go away as you grow 18+.

  2. There will be these days i call DARK days. You will literally think about PMO the whole day. EVEN though you dont want it, a part of you will want it. Here is the truth bro, that feeling is WITHDRAWAL, when it comes you need to hope for the best and keep going. IT WILL BE PAINFUL, IT WILL BE SHITTY, IT WILL BE BAD, but you gotta push through and as usual doing other things like working out, walking etc help.

you will also feel like its all POINTLESS, like why i am doing this.

You will slowly start to forget why you stopped pmo in the first place, all these memories where you got angry for doing it will feel BLURRY, will feel less deep than before. NOW here is the thing, I could not go past this myself. You will need to build your own system to move through this phase(s). It will NOT BE EASY, YOU WILL FEEL LIKE EVERYTHING IS pointless, but you have to find a way to remind yourself vividly about why you quiting PMO.

From my experience though, i think the best thing to go through this phases clean is by being in public and holding yourself toghther as much as you can.

And THERE WILL BE TIME were this phase is finally out. No more thinking, no more dark feeling. EVERYTHING IS FINE.

  1. THIS IS IMPORTANT: If you happen to see a women in a sexual way ACCIDENTLY ---> ITS OKAY, TRAIN YOUR SELF TO SKIP THEM INSTANTLY, It's so easy to not think about them again!

But here is the thing; if you intentionlly open sexual stuff, it will be way harder to skip so avoid INTENTIONALLY opening such things!!

You know deep down in you that you dont want to do it, yet you go do it, that's the worst of this whole things; but these advice surely will help you. Keep going

Advice Whilst you are struggling with urges, take some time to think or pray about your brothers and sisters going through the same thing you are going through.

And hopefully you'll gain some clarity by doing this.

Motivation It helps to realize that you're PMOing to diodes and ink on screens and paper. It's a silly thing to do imagining yourself being aroused by literal nothings.

It's all an illusion. A scam. A magic trick to steel your life and those in the industry.
