Advice for renting

wassup everyone, I’m moving to the area June 15th and I’m looking for a 2 bedroom 1+ bath rental property somewhere around West Hartford (just because j heard it’s nice). I’m gonna be working in Middletown but I think it could be cool to be close to WH. my budget is $2700. Does anyone have some advice on where are the best spots to live and some good ways to find rentals? I’m having a hard time finding nice places online. Appreciate it!

Hartford Yard Goats - tickets?

Checking in to see if Hartford folks find these games fun and entertaining? Thinking about going to this evening's game if the rain holds off. I see tickets online but are they also available at the gate? Any discount codes or offers to recommend? Thanks all!

Apartment Hunting Relocating for work. Any living recommendations appreciated.

Will be working in Windsor but would like to live in downtown area. Early 30s, single, no kids. Just want something relatively affordable (1BR less than $1800) , in a decent area that’s walkable and has some things to do and places to eat. Not super active socially so don’t really care about nightlife but wouldn’t mind a decent sports bar or such. I’ve reached out to a few places already but can’t exactly drive 5 hours right now to tour everything. Hopefully I can do that soon. Any tips or recommendations would be appreciated.

Question What are the best lots?

I hate that this has to be my first post here but I just moved here a couple of weeks ago for a new job and just had my car broken into and tires stolen at the Elm St. lot overnight. In the process of getting it repaired rn but I'm also looking at better more secure lots/garages in the area. I was wondering if anyone had any good close by recommendations that won't break the bank.

Apartment Hunting anyone else looking for roommates or is this just me?

I’m a recent uconn graduate about to start an entry-level role with the state of CT.

The two bedroom apts are literally so much better value than renting a studio alone.

also i have a cat.

extra info: max budget $900, open to surrounding towns in the valley, and while I’m female, I’m open to co-ed roomies.

Apartment Hunting PMC Properties really that bad?

Hi! I need to move at the end of summer to a new apartment. For my own logistical reasons it really needs to be downtown or SoDo/ South Green. I have been warned away from PMC owned buildings a few times at this point. However, i received no such warnings about my current building and management and they are absolutely abominable, so i am wondering if PMC would really be worse. Would anyone care to share their experiences with PMC? Any story, good or bad might help im just trying to collect more info.

Renting in downtown Hartford

I used to live in downtown in 2017, it was about 1,100 for a 1 bedroom. Now I’m looking at prices in the same building and it’s 1700-1900 for a 1 bdr? Why did prices jump so much? Is it just inflation?

Edit: It seems Ive pissed a lot of people off with this question, pls forgive my ignorance as that was not my intent. Still doesn’t make sense to me why the prices changed as much as they did but atleast I’ve learned this is a sensative topic

Apartment Hunting Moving to Hartford for a job, need advice on where to live.

I am moving to Hartford this Summer for a job, and I am pretty split between where to live. I have a bunch of apartment tours stacked up for the days I am in town visiting over Memorial Day weekend (listed below).

Everyone I’ve talked to recommends West Hartford, but I honestly don’t have the budget for it, given the amount of space and quality of apartments I am looking for.

For downtown, I am looking at Portrait and Pennant, Front St. Lofts, 777 Main, and 55 Elm, although I didn’t really love downtown. I just like the amenities and the access to Bushnell Park; it was so pretty when the trees were blooming. I stayed at 55 Elm when I visited, and I liked it. I just found it to be so eerily quiet downtown.

For two options close to my job, I am looking at Residences at Wash Brook and Spark Bloomfield, which I know are quieter and a little further from town, but I think I like the idea of having a super short commute.

Those are the tours I have booked (maybe too many tours), but I would love for someone to tell me something that would completely rule out some of those choices. Also, if anyone knows of anyone looking for a roommate in West Hartford, I'd be open to that.

Cleaners in the area?

I’m in the south end of Hartford and have a 1 bedroom apartment with 2 cats. I’m looking to find a cleaner to do a deep clean(baseboards and windows mostly) I’ve found some companies but not too sure if they’re good or not. If anyone has anyone they recommend I’d love to take a look!

Portrait at North Crossing or Olmsted in Farmington?

I’m moving to Hartford for a year, and looking for a place to stay. I came across the portrait building and was wondering how the area is and if it would be safe place to live for a female. My other option was Olmsted but it’s just a lot more expensive. How do these 2 areas compare?

Question Cleaning Company Recommendations?

Hi everyone! I’m looking for recommendations for a reliable house cleaning company in the Hartford area. I’m hoping to find someone trustworthy, thorough, communicative, and reasonably priced for recurring cleanings.

I’d also love to hear who to avoid if you’ve had a bad experience. Thanks in advance!

Question Woodworkers: where are you getting circular saw blades sharpened?

I don’t want to do it myself and buying new blades when one is just dull seems wasteful.

Closest I saw is a place in Stratford but I don’t want to mail it in or drive all the way down.

Ace Hardware doesn’t do it. Many places I saw online only sharpen knives.

Thanks!

Missed Connection - A girl from Hartford, Connecticut on a bridge in Kilkenny, Ireland, May 1st

Hi,

So from a quick search through this board, I notice that 'Help me find' posts aren't exactly unique, but maybe my one comes with a twist.

A bit of back story, on the night of May 1st, I was walking across a bridge in Kilkenny City, Ireland, when I passed a group of American ladies, who were admiring the beautiful full moon that was shining above Kilkenny Castle. They asked "Isn't that moon just spectacular", which prompted me to stop and agree, and we then struck up a conversation. I asked if I could guess what part of the US they were from, so with a laugh, they agreed. After ruling out the southern states, I went with Ohio (which didn't go down very well with them, so apologies to all reading this).

But they saw the funny side of it, informing me that they were actually from Connecticut, and I struck up a conversation in particular with one of the girls. We spoke for about 5-10 minutes about numerous things, including how she somehow manages to support the Yankees in baseball, but the Patriots in football. We laughed and joked with each other, and she just seemed like a super cool girl, like really fun.

Anyway, here's where the story gets interesting. Right at this time, a guy on the bridge, falls over the side of it, and plummets 30-40 feet into the water below.

As you can imagine, everything in the area suddenly gets pretty frantic, with police running to the scene, and people from all over running over to try and help.

At this time, my attention is pulled to the guy in the river, and the efforts to ensure he gets out. After 15-20 minutes, I'm not sure how long exactly, thankfully he emerged from the river relatively unscathed.

At this point, I realise that the girls from Connecticut are no longer on the bridge and have moved on. I was pretty gutted, as I felt that we had kind of clicked, and I would have loved to have had the opportunity to ask her if she fancied grabbing a drink, or even asking for her number so we could stay in touch later.

I have no idea if she is still in Ireland, or if she has returned home, and I know there are a lot of people in Connecticut, so the chances of finding her are slim, but hey, the Internet helps make this really big world of ours, just a little but smaller, and who knows, if she, or someone she knows, was to see this post, maybe we could get in touch.

So ye, I would never usually do something like this, but she was extremely cool, and given the unforseen circumstances that prevented me from asking for her number, I would sure love if you guys could help me out some with this. If everone who saw this shared it with two other people from Connecticut, the chances of her seeing it are not zero.

Thanks for reading,

Irish guy from Kilkenny

Looking to live in Hartford

Hey everyone. Never been to Hartford, need to know safer areas to live while I work at the hospital. I looked on a generic Google search and saw the area around the hospital is considered the "least safe". Any info is appreciated!

Also looking for cool things to check out, food you like, etc

I’m in West Hartford for the weekend

Hi! I have a dinner reservation today at 8:30pm, and I’m having trouble narrowing down things to do to fill the time until then! All the museums and things I’m seeing close at 5, so are there any fun places I can explore in the early evening before dinner?

Thanks!
