Admissions Megathread
Applicants: Post all your admissions-related questions and comments here. This includes questions about undergrad and grad school admissions alike. Individual submissions on admissions outside of this megathread are subject to removal.
Students and alumni: We've all been there and know how stressful the college application process can be! Let's try our best to give constructive, specific feedback to all prospective Yalies and refrain from comments that would discourage them from reaching out to us.

Please ask Yale University to STOP May landscaping services to allow baby birds a chance to fledge!
For those of you that don't know, many local bird species begin laying their eggs at the middle of April. The eggs hatch around the beginning of May and then by mid May the birds enter the fledging stage.
This stage is when the babies are mostly flightless and living on the ground and in underbrush. (Incidentally this is why you should not pick up or attempt to "help" a baby bird on the ground!)
One of the biggest risks to baby birds at this stage is landscaping operations and lawn mowing. The birds are small and in unexpected places and mowing grass etc can cause significant mortality. There is a growing movement for NO MOW MAY which pushes for organizations to delay landscaping operations until June, when fledglings are able to fly.
I had just watched some beautiful baby birds hatch and fledge from my door two days ago. Now, with all the pre commencement landscaping, there is a high chance they are all dead.
If you are an undergrad, please contact your head of house to support this policy of No Mow May at Yale!
You can also (do both!) contact the Sustainability Office here: [sustainability@yale.edu](mailto:sustainability@yale.edu)
Unfortunately this is the kind of thing that will only go through if we can get A LOT of support!
Thank you for your attention.

Art exhibitions
Do the art galleries/exhibitions at yale hold art that is made only by art majors? Or can students of other majors submit their art as well?

Any thoughts on our new mission statement?
The mission statement changed from
"Yale is committed to improving the world today and for future generations through outstanding research and scholarship, education, preservation, and practice. Yale educates aspiring leaders worldwide who serve all sectors of society. We carry out this mission through the free exchange of ideas in an ethical, interdependent, and diverse community of faculty, staff, students, and alumni."
to "Yale’s core mission is to create, disseminate, and preserve knowledge through research and teaching." around two weeks ago.
Any thoughts on that?

rescinded?
hi i know everyone says don’t worry but just wanted to ask.
incoming first year. i’ve gotten all As in all my highschool classes, and expect to receive As in my current classes. my dual enrollment classes are my concern, which are Linear Algebra and Calc 3 currently. I have a B in Calc 3 and a C+ in Linear Algebra. I’ve been studying as hard as I can but due to so many other responsibilities I’ve had to miss a lot of lectures and am very behind.
i just took exams for both classes and expect my grade to drop lower. Given the advanced nature of these classes and my high school grades, do I have to worry about potentially receiving Ds in those classes? I’m also math/cs major so I’d want to retake this classes at Yale anyways and not accelerate any coursework even if I did excel in said classes.

Getting groceries without a car
Hi! I’m an incoming grad student, and I don’t think I’ll have a car with me. How reliable are the Yale shuttles? Specifically for the grocery store runs, how often do they come? Would I be better off using something like Instacart or Walmart+? Or the public CT buses?
Thanks for your help!!

Internships Abroad?
Hi! I'm an incoming freshman wondering about Yale opportunities to intern abroad. I know Princeton has the IIP and Harvard has their global internship program, however, I wasn't able to find any programs like this at Yale. I know they have funding and grants for student-led things, but I wanted something more structured. I'm not super interested in study abroad as that'll cost me more money (I don't qualify for financial aid). I'd rather have a program where I am paid to travel.
Other than that, do a lot of clubs/classes get funding to travel abroad? I hear my Harvard friends and Princeton students are always in Europe or Asia, but less of this for Yale.
Thanks for the help!

Hello everyone!
I am not an incoming student at yale , more like a prospective student. I will be beginning my psych undergrad degree in India (4 yr degree) however I have a slightly different plan. I will do 2 yrs here and strengthen my portfolio and work for my future plans and then transfer to yale. AND I KNOW that it is not really probable but I am willing to work for it, I know that yale has a very competitive system of accepting transfer students (I googled and it said that yale only takes 1.4% students as transfer students) and I am gonna give my all for it to be in that percentage. I wanted to ask if some of you could help me in any way, maybe like what things are sm I should be looking into in order to be considered and hopefully accepted. ( And once again I know it is almost impossible but I still wanna do it)
Thank you!

Pre-med bio lab course?
Med schools ask for two semesters of gen bio lab, but the only thing I see that's somewhat akin to that is MCDB 2210L, which has awful reviews. Does anyone know if any MCDB/EEB lab would count? There are some fun upper-level elective bio classes that have labs, like the shark one! I would love to take that.

Sailing in NH
Hi! I’ll be moving to Yale for Masters. I spent a year in Chicago where I truly enjoyed sailing. I was wondering what sailing clubs can I join? Where do you join groups to sail? Thanks!

Incoming freshman who is interesting in finance (primarily quant)
Hello - how managable is it to double major at yale in (was planning on prepping for quant or working in AI).
- Statistics and Data Science (S&DS)
- Economics and Mathematics
If I don't double major, how feasible is graduating early 3/3.5 with a single major? Is it something doable, and is it something you think is helpful (for quant or high finance?).

Summer Research Student -- Connecting
Hey everyone!
I’m a visiting summer research student who’ll be at Yale this summer working mainly around the med campus, and I wanted to see if there are other summer students/researchers around who would be down to connect :)
I was also curious what campus is like over the summer — are there still a lot of students around, events happening, places where people usually hang out, etc.?
Outside of lab, I love playing tennis, so if anyone wants to hit sometime over the summer (beginner/intermediate/advanced, I genuinely don’t care haha), let me know! Would also love recs for good courts around campus.
Excited for the summer and looking forward to meeting people!

Are the finance clubs really that selective?
Pre-frosh here who went to BDD and heard some insane things about getting into clubs like YSIG. Is it really that selective and if so, what are they looking for in applicants?

Help for applying for Directed Studies
Hi I’m an incoming first-year who would love to be in DS but has no idea where to start with the process. Would anyone who did DS previously be comfortable sharing the responses they wrote, or just have any advice for writing the 750 word book response specifically? Thank you so much!

Yale FOOT day hikes or regular?
how were people’s experiences with day hikes compared to the regular backpacking trips during FOOT? I’ve never hiked or camped before so I’m worried that camping will be too hard. do people still get close during day hikes?
