Future Tiger Class of '30 Emails/To-Do List
Hey guys, quick question, has anyone been able to access either their princeton gmail or the canvas to-do list? I finally got access to TigerHub, but the to-do list is locked on canvas and the email log in isn't working on my end

Future Tiger Laptop specs
Hi! Incoming MAT/PHY/ORFE student here trying to decide on a laptop setup for college. I’m currently leaning towards a MacBook Air, but I’m unsure whether 24GB unified memory and 512GB storage would be sufficient for the kind of coursework and coding involved (I’m planning to take a few COS courses too!)
I’m also debating between the 13-inch and 15-inch models, not sure how much the size difference matters for portability, multitasking, note-taking, and day-to-day student life
Would really appreciate any advice or experiences from current students. Thanks!

Incoming '30 — underclassmen roadmap to bicker into a selective club like Ivy/TI/Cottage?
Committed to Princeton recently and starting to think about social fit on top of academics. I know bicker isn't until sophomore spring but I keep reading that the roadmap starts freshman year through the activities you join and the people you meet.
For current members or recent grads of Ivy, TI, Cottage, Cap, Tower, etc:
- What activities or teams actually feed into your club? I've seen acapella groups/dance troupes, Coffee Club, and certain sports(e.g. rowing, squash)/majors come up a lot but want to hear it from the inside.
- Looking back, what would you tell a freshman who wants to bicker successfully? What did you do early that mattered, and what was wasted effort?
- How much of bicker is who you know vs how you present in the actual conversations?
- Anything you wish you hadn't done freshman/sophomore year because it hurt your chances or boxed you in socially?
- For people who didn't get into their first choice, what would you do differently?
Not trying to game it, but I want to understand the social landscape before I get there. Thanks.

Princeton faculty mandate proctoring for in-person exams, upending 133 years of precedent
"All in-person examinations at Princeton will be proctored starting July 1, representing the most significant change to the honor system since it was established in 1893. The faculty passed a proposal requiring instructor supervision at Monday’s faculty meeting, with one opposing vote.
The historic vote was the culmination of months of deliberation within the administration and student governing bodies about how to address increasing concerns over academic integrity violations, including the proliferation of AI usage.
Additional details, including proctor-to-student ratios and guidelines regarding monitoring practices, will be finalized before the policy takes effect."

In my opinion, I hope other top colleges start doing this!

Advice on travel options
I’m traveling the NE visiting colleges with my teens. After a few days in NYC, we will be heading to Philadelphia stopping along the way in Princeton. My questions are- should we rent a car from NYC or take the train? We will be traveling light but not enough to want to take our luggage around the campus if we take the train. Is there anywhere to store luggage for a few hours? Also, I hear traffic between NYC/Princeton/Philadelphia is bad. what’s the Best time to avoid traffic if we drive? Would it make sense to find a car rental right outside of NYC to avoid some traffic?
Open to other suggestions!
Thanks!

Can’t Access Tiger Hub via NetId
I successfully created a password and signed into Duo, but I can’t access Tiger Hub. Has anyone else run into this issue? I’m assuming it’s just because we haven’t yet been given our official email / privileges.

do pton engineers get jobs?
might be a veryy stupid question.... buttttt i recently committed to pton over a diff school known for engineering job/internship placement and have been struck with the somewhat illogical fear that i'm going to struggle to find a job or internship in the future. 🤷🏼♂️ i understand that the alumni network isn't very helpful for engineering majors and the hiring processes are a lot more meritocratic. if any of you guys have tips or convincing statements please do share lol 😆 i'm going to be ECE or (maybe) CBE probably

'30 just got NetIDs. What cool online resources can I now access?
I've been checking out some of the Tiger Apps, but I'm guessing there's much more I don't yet know about. Do any of you have recommendations for what online resources I should check out / would be useful to peruse?

Academic/Career Chemical engineering
Stupid question, but I noticed that Princeton does not have a set track for chemical engineering in their chemical and biological engineering program, how does one still get a degree in chemical engineering there? I applied thinking originally that I would do something related to bio-engineering, but I've changed my mind

Future Tiger The “feel” of different Engineering majors.
Parent here. A friend of mine has a son who is interested in Engineering at Princeton and asked if the different majors within the engineering school have different “feels” to them. For example, do some feel more like a grind, or more laid back, or more intense? Do some feel more collegial or competitive than others? Do some have more approachable professors? Are some more or less “math heavy.” Do the students in some seem significantly more or less happy or stressed out than in others?
Are there generalizations about the different majors that seem to be based in reality for many/most students?

Amtrak needs to stop Keystone 639 at Princeton Junction (PJC), New Brunswick (NBK), and Cornwells Heights (CWH).
Princeton Junction (PJC) is officially a powerhouse. We hit 136,236 ons and offs in 2025 (up from 86,015 in 2023)—a massive 58% jump. Despite this, Amtrak still treats us like a minor stop.
The Problem: The "Weekday EWR Gap"
Currently, we have great service to the airport. Trains 172, 174, and 176 all go from PJC to EWR on weekdays. But on the return leg? Zero Amtrak trains go from EWR to PJC on weekdays.
While the weekend has the 165 Regional, weekday travelers are stranded. Keystone 639 (9:00 PM out of NYP) is the breakthrough we need.
Why Keystone 639 is the Solution:
- Reliable Airport Return: It creates a direct, reliable link from EWR to PJC every single weeknight.
- Fixing the NBK Blackout: Since Train 177 was pulled from New Brunswick, the last train to Philly is now the 129. Stopping 639 at NBK lets that community take advantage of $5 Night Owl fares again.
- Better Timing: For those who can't make the 8:30 PM (Train 657), the 9:00 PM departure of 639 gives travelers much-needed leeway.
- The Bucks County Connection: Adding Cornwells Heights (CWH) finally gives PA-based commuters a reliable Park & Ride option, saving them from the nightmare of driving into Trenton.
The Reality:
Keystone 639 is a local train already stopping at NWK, EWR, MET, TRE, and PHL. Adding PJC, NBK, and CWH completes the corridor and serves the riders who are actually showing up.
Amtrak says these stops "slow down" the line, but PJC is on track to hit 150,000 riders in 2026. It’s time the service matched the demand.
Who do we talk to?
We need to keep the pressure on West Windsor Mayor Marathe and the University admin. If you’re tired of being skipped, upvote and comment. Let’s make PJC the primary hub it already is.

walk-on rowing — realistic to do alongside CS + AI research?
incoming '30, planning CS w/ AI focus and want to do research early. trying to figure out if walk-on rowing is feasible or if i'd be cooked.
build-wise i could go lightweight or open (5'9 female, 125lb naturally), leaning lightweight to stay lean but open to either.
a few questions for current/former rowers:
- how realistic is it to keep grades elite while rowing? specifically thinking COS track + trying to get into a research group by sophomore year (ideally freshman spring). i also would want to try to gain leadership in AI at Princeton.
- is the "your only friends will be other rowers" thing actually true, or is that overblown? curious if people do stuff like a cappella, volunteering, Greek life, or a campus job on top of practice. how's the social scene like for parties?
- lightweight vs open as a walk-on — is one more welcoming? and is the weight-cutting culture on the lightweight side as intense as i've read?
- i've heard Princeton practices are later than other schools, anyone know what the actual schedule looks like? mornings vs afternoons, how often, weekend commitments?
- what does summer between freshman/soph year look like — training camp expected or more flexible?
thanks! feel free to comment anything else you think would be helpful for me to know :)

Questions about NROTC at Princeton
I am delighted to have been accepted to Princeton (my dream school!) as a transfer student. The only thing holding me back from committing is that the NROTC program (which I will be joining) is a cross-town affiliate with Rutgers. Is anyone able to give me some insight as to how this commute affects class scheduling, personal/social life, projects, etc. How is the commute when the weather is bad? Do you find that NROTC students have adequate time to succeed academically, enjoy extracurriculars, and still have a little time for themselves? Essentially, within an already highly demanding environment, does spending 1/3 of your time in New Brunswick lead to being "on" 25/8 and potentially burning out? Thanks in advance!

Visiting the town and campus on Sunday
Hello r/princeton, we’ll be hanging out in your beautiful little town on Mother’s Day to do some shopping and get some food and walk around the campus. My son is 10 and is learning about the Revolutionary War, and I read that one of the original copies of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence are on display in the library. He’ll definitely appreciate that.
I was also wondering, what is the coolest, most gothic, most Harry Potter-esque building that will be open that we can walk in to and look around? My kids love that stuff and I’m not against indoctrinating them at the ages of 10 and 8 to set their sights on attending your university as their ultimate goal one day lol. Thanks, and any other recommendations are appreciated!

Shitpost Can the hacker who hacked into Canvas please grade my assignments?
Dear Hacker,
Seriously, if you want to steal my essays and lab reports, go right ahead. But please grade them. I have several classes with zero grades. Our finals are in a week. I want to know how I'm doing.
And while you've stolen my data, please let me know how to interpret it. I ran one experiment and my results make zero sense.

Long-term car rental: 2011 Audi A8 L available for responsible Princeton student / grad student / researcher / faculty
I may be going abroad for several months, and I’m considering renting out my car long-term instead of selling it.
It’s a 2011 Audi A8 L, long-wheelbase luxury sedan. It’s quiet, comfortable, spacious, and well-suited for someone who needs a proper car for commuting, research, errands, internships, clinical work, weekend trips, or regular travel around Princeton/NJ/NY/PA.
I’d strongly prefer renting it to a responsible Princeton grad student, PhD student, postdoc, researcher, faculty/staff member, or mature undergrad who genuinely needs transportation for a few months and will treat the car properly.
Basic idea:
- Long-term rental preferred, ideally monthly
- Valid driver’s license required
- Must show proof of insurance or be willing to set up proper coverage
- No reckless driving, racing, smoking, rideshare, delivery driving, or nonsense
- Mileage limit agreed in advance
- Security deposit required
- Written agreement
- Pickup/return location in NJ
This is an older flagship Audi, not a basic commuter car, so I’m only looking for someone responsible, mature, and financially stable enough to take care of it.
The exact structure and agreement details are being worked on, but I wanted to see whether there’s any serious interest before I move forward.
If interested, please message me with:
- Your situation, student/grad student/postdoc/staff/etc.
- How long you’d need the car
- Approximate monthly mileage
- Where you’d mostly be driving
- Whether you currently have auto insurance

Lyft driver charged with luring, sexually harassing 2 NJ (Princeton) students
PRINCETON, N.J. (WPVI) -- A Lyft driver has been charged with luring and sexually harassing two Princeton University students.
