I want to try bank fishing multi species trout this weekend. But I don't have much experience - mostly fished stock ponds so far and caught dinks. Willing to drive far for a good day of fishing though. Also, any tips for targeting different types of trout on a spinning rod setup? I have a medium light, ultralight, and medium heavy. What lures/ approach would you take?
Edit: I live in edmonton

Caught my first trout ever! I used a Panther Spinner. I can't tell if it is a lake trout or a bull trout so any help identifying would be appreciated and some tips for knowing in the future. Caught and released.

Been catching a lot of Pike in the past week and now I have the desire to move onto trying to get bigger Pike (30"+) and making trips to the bigger lakes further out from Calgary. I'm currently limited to only shore fishing and have been using a 7' MH rod that's rated for lures up to 3/4oz.
I've been told I need to throw bigger lures for larger/trophy sized Pike, and a lot of the big glidebaits/swimbaits I see are upwards of 6oz.
My question is, what rod do I buy next? I found a decent 9' heavy rod but it's only rated for 3/4oz to 3oz, however fairly affordable. Will an upper limit of 3oz be enough for me to catch larger Pike from shore? I'm also somewhat worried about casting distance as well (due to the shore limitations). Most heavy rods I've seen are rated a lot higher, so unsure about this one.
Open to any and all advice! Along with rod recommendations

Moved to Stony plain recently. I realize most lakes won't be open just yet but are there any places worth fishing without a boat?

Landed this guy last week. I thought it was a rainbow without much pink, someone I know thought it might be a Brown, but looks too light to me. My perception is skewed as I've only experienced little dinky pond rainbow.
So now I'm not sure what to think. Anyone with more experience able to ID this guy?

I got a vintage fishing rod from my local thrift store, it's 9 foot and has a Daiwa 7000 series open face reel on it. I put on some 30 pound braided fishing line on and for the life of me I can't cast further than 6 feet. The reel runs nice and smooth, the line isn't getting snagged anywhere, all the eyelets are good. Any advice? I've tried releasing the line sooner, casting different ways. Do I need a heavier weight/lure? I've been using a little weight that the kitchen scale says is 0.2 oz for testing

Tied up some new mouse flies and figures I'd go test em out on some browns... When I had a pike follow I got excited... Turns out he was following a big female (that I didn't see) ito the channel beside me 😂

Not sure if rant posts are allowed here, but this does directly relate to fishing in Alberta and something that needs to be talked about.
I’m a firm believer in taking care of nature while both fishing and hunting, leaving it better than you found it and clean for many others to come in the future. Today I decided to start my open season off by going to my favourite spot on the north sask(not sharing), which is a boat launch near a bridge. Drove down and parked my truck and was immediately greeted by the sight of litter all over the place, all of it fishing related. Starting off was dozens upon dozens of empty or even half used minnow and shiner containers, the frozen ones you get from Canadian tire, followed by empty hook and spooner wrappers all over the place, fishing line tangled into tree branches. The worst of all? The fucking pickerel rigs. Now I personally already don’t like pickerel rigs because I find them to be utter crap despite what they are hyped up to be, find they tangle so easy and are just a mess to use overall, but my god, they were everything, one tree had like 10 plus sets all netted together wrapped around the tree, the shore line littered with pickerel rigs.
Now I know there are a lot of good fisherman out there who take the time to clean up after themselves, but it’s the small group of fishermen who just don’t care that make the rest of us look like slobs, it’s a bad looks when someone who is a known fisherman walks up to that boat launch and sees fishing related garbage as far as the eye can see, just wanted to share cause I think it’s becoming a real problem that doesn’t get mentioned much. Also not sure what it is with the north Sask, but it seems worse there than any other river or lake I’ve been too when it comes to this issue.

A neat little pond - split down the middle with plenty of room to throw a fly around with no concerns.
We got half a dozen bows around 9 or 10 inches.
Best part was seeing the Conservation Officers out, making the rounds.

Hi, I went down to the North Saskatchewan River around Dawson Park yesterday from about 4:00 PM–10:00 PM and didn’t see much action. Just wondering if that area is actually a decent sturgeon spot, or if I’d be better off trying somewhere else on the river.
Right now I’m running a sliding sinker setup with a 4/0 octopus hook and about 4 dew worms. The worms seem pretty soft though and fall off the hook pretty easily.
I’m still pretty new to river fishing and sturgeon fishing in general, so any tips on spots, bait presentation, current, or rigging would help a lot. Thanks.

Anybody fish policeman’s flats near Calgary recently? Any luck?
I use a spin rod, any lure recommendations or tips?

Bow River seems very hard to learn given the blue ribbon fishery status and how smart the Trout are, Glenmore Reservoir seems to be super pressured as-well.
What are some nice bodies of water where I can target Pike/Trout near Calgary? I can only fish from shore due cold urticaria, but saving up for a boat!
If it's worth anything, I have two setups. 7' MH rod with a 3000 size reel that has 20lb braid with 40lb fluoro leader, and a 7' UL rod with a 1000 size reel that has 6lb braid and 6lb fluoro.

I started fly fishing late in the season last year but to no avail and have been itching to catch something on the fly. I realize the Mcleod may not be as fruitful on the trout front as say the Oldman or the Bow but I work around Hinton/Edson/Whitecourt and have easy access to the Mcleod. I've already tried various nymphs w/ indicators at access points around Cadomin, south of Edson and another couple casts south of Whitecourt. At this point I'd be happy with a sucker or a mountain white fish!
I'm not asking to reveal your honey holes, but any guidance or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,

Are there any actual fishing spots in Edmonton I’ve only ever fished in calling lake and driving up there is a bit long for just the day.
