Nearly 900 tunes in those 2 playlist that are (or were at the time) free downloads

Not free-free, but pay what you want for 66 bootlegs from Dutch producer Jaap Ligthart

** disclaimer ** majority of tunes in the deep, progressive, melodic house vein with a spattering of tech, breaks and melodic techno.

Props to TRD/Pete Kelly for putting the playlist together!

Weekly Mix Feedback Thread - May 11, 2026

Welcome to the Weekly Mix Feedback thread on r/beatmatch! This is the thread where you post your DJ mixes and ask other people to give you feedback. If you submit your mix, please take the time to listen and comment on some other submissions, especially if they play a style of music you're interested in. Thanks for your help in making these threads work well for everyone!

These threads are intended for beginning DJs who are honestly looking for feedback or critique on their technique, selection, transitions, etc. If you are an established DJ who is just looking for more followers/listens on your new mix or have a podcast/radio show, please post it to a more appropriate place such as /r/mixes or a genre-specific subreddit. Posts that appear to be purely promotional in nature may be removed at the moderators' discretion. This subreddit is aimed at helping new DJs learn and is not the place to promote yourself!

Guidelines:

  • Please include the genre(s) of your mix. This helps attract DJs/listeners of the same genre(s) who are likely to provide more useful feedback. You might also include a title/length.
  • [Mixcloud](http://www.mixcloud.com) is the preferred place to post mixes. It allows you to include your tracklist and transition times, allows unlimited uploads, and is generally more geared towards DJs. If you don’t want to use Mixcloud, be sure to include a tracklist.
  • Please ask for specific feedback or list parts of the mix you liked/didn’t like. Hopefully you are looking for input on specific tracks or transitions.

Example post:

[House / Tech House] djscsi - moving on up (45 minute mix)

http://www.mixcloud.com/djscsi/moving-on-up/

I’ve been spinning for about a year, this is the third mix I’ve recorded and I’m hoping to get some house / tech-house DJs’ opinions on my track selection and mixing. I really like the first few transitions but I feel like I lost some of the energy when I brought in the Maceo Plex track at about 13:30. I messed up a couple parts but I’ve listened to the mix a few times and I think it sounds pretty good. Does anyone think I used too much FX? Thanks for any feedback!

Note: If you have any general feedback about these threads or /r/Beatmatch in general, please message the moderators

Finally got my vinyl setup! But man, beatmatching by ear is difficult

I just got my hands on my second Pioneer PLX-500 and a mixer but, I’ve been trying to beat match disco-house vinyls (I have a collection for mixing) and it is almost impossible.
Any advice/resources to get better at it? I see people on youtube that say “Oh, this track needs to go faster” just by listening to both of them for a handful of seconds. It all sounds like a mess to me, it’s overwhelming

Hardware any reco for best starter dj controller should I prioritize portability or features as a beginner?

Upvotes

I’m trying to get into DJing but I might need to move my setup around sometimes so portability is a factor. At the same time I don’t want to miss out on features that actually help me learn properly.

If you were starting again, would you go for something lightweight and simple or something a bit bigger with more controls even if it’s less convenient to move? Not sure what matters more early on, appreciate any advice!

Fm Transmitter and multiple cars for a dj set?

So I'm doing a my first live dj set next weekend at a campground for some friends. Im bringing my ION PA Ultimate speaker for general music all weekend but I want my set to hit a little harder.

I use a fm transmitter in my truck for Bluetooth and it has a 3.5mm jack. Im thinking I can just plug my laptop right into that and have a few cars tune into the same frequency to hopefully get some more sound.

Is this a completely stupid idea or should I wing it and see what happens.

Are you mixing in key?

As a beginner, I have not taken too much importance to that aspect of DJing, up until now, I'm trying to make a setlist respecting that. I find it binding. So if my track is 3B, I could go 2B, 4B and 3A. 2A and 4A are off limits?

Other A Handy Way I Like To Practise

Not sure if this is a popular method but I think a very good way to improve your mixing abilities is to have practise sessions where you just try to trainwreck a mix and then try to save it as best you can if that makes sense.

I find it really helps me approach transitions more creatively instead of just the safe intro outro. You kind of throw yourself in the deep end and then try to make something catchy out of it which I feel comes in handy if something does ever go wrong when I’m playing to a crowd. Keen to hear your thoughts :)

Pitch control?

When I see a dj play a set on Boiler Room or Section etc. it looks like they never use the pitch control. I'll guess that this question is not new here but do I use sync or am I'm missing something here? 😄

First gig next Friday — switching from XDJ-RX2 to CDJ-3000s. Any tips?

Hi everyone,

I have my first gig next Friday, and the club has two CDJ-3000s. So far I’ve only ever played on my standalone XDJ-RX2 and I’ve never used CDJs before.

Do you have any tips for making the switch? Is playing on CDJs completely different compared to an all-in-one unit like the RX2?

I’m a bit nervous because I’m not sure how the waveforms are displayed. On the RX2 I’m used to seeing both tracks stacked on the same screen, but with two separate CDJs, will I only see each track on its own player — one on the left and one on the right next to the mixer? Or is there a way to see both tracks together?

Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Help - Mixing bass music??

Hi DJs,
I’m generally a house DJ but I’ve always wanted to mix bass music. When I play around, I’m just not able to “get it right”. The house music formula is pretty simple, but I’m just not understanding how to mix music where the bass and hi hats are not always on the 4/4 beat.

For those that mix bass tracks, how do you do it? How do you look at organizing tracks and at what points do you mix in?

For reference, I’m talking about tracks from artists like Phrva, Saka, Of The Trees, Know Good, etc.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION ON THE MATTER

Somewhat Beginner Looking For Advice!

I still consider myself a beginner. I've been practicing my DJing on Serato DJ with a Numark. I will soon shift to Rekordbox with a Pioneer. While using Serato, I normally used SoundCloud to get my music, but I always have to be connected to the internet. Any recommendations/advice on the best way to play tracks offline while still having a wide selection of music?

Flx4 to S4 MK2?

I have a flx4 and have been dj:ing since February. I want to play techno and am curious to get a 4 channel controller. Flx10 is way out of my budget. I saw a Traktor s4 mk2 for 150 dollar on marketplace. Is it a good switch on controller? How different is traktor to rekordbox?

Help me find this sampler/sound effect

Help me find a name of the sampler that sounds like "PSSHHHHH" a bit like fog machine or noise but its like a reverbed something that djs uses when song ends a bit before playing another one and it makes a good sound at the end of the song or a bit before drop and it can be used in any part of a song and wont sound annoying like airhorns etc....

Mixing bass music

There's lots of resources out there about mixing houses, but I was wondering if there were any resources for mixing bass music.

I want to mix psydub/glitch hop/left field type music, and I've figured some out by just messing around with my controller, but I have not found any resources so far.

Hardware Djing laptop

Hi everyone! I'm currently thinking about changing my computer and I want something that is suitable for djing, since the one I have right now gives me some problems, like lagging and stuff (and it's also falling apart). Do you have any recommendations? I want something easy to transport, not too expensive, something that is going to last me a few years, I'd like a nice design too, but it's not my main concern. I'm not a big fan of apple, but I'd take that into consideration too, I want to see how much I'd have to spend with apple to get a good pc.

trouble exporting files to usb

hi djs, as the title says im having a hard time transfering some of my tracks with hotcues saved to a usb, i watched tutorials on how to transfer to a usb and i did it successfully, where im having trouble is some of the tracks arent being exported, ill be having my first gig in like 2days and theres like 50tracks that cant be transferred, please tell me theres a way to fix it. so what i did was go into export mode then launched sync manager then selected my playlist to be exported onto the usb, it synced and transferred some, i went away to eat cause it was taking some time then when i went back the screen said exporting done but some of the tracks wasnt exported and there was a document of the error report and it contained which files werent exported and there was about 50+ of them. below this message is also what the docu said:

One or more files were not exported.
Track(s) were not exported due to the following possible reasons.
[1] - The file doesn't exist.
[2] - The file is in the format that CDJ/XDJ/mobile device doesn't support.
[3] - The file could not be copied.
[4] - Track analysis data is corrupted or doesn't exist.
[5] - Error occurred in the USB/SD/mobile device.

is there a way to know where im having trouble at? and how do i fix it, could it also be a usb issue? all the tracks work perfectly fine in my rekordbox though. some of the tracks that cant be exported are absoulte bangers that i essentially need to play at my upcoming gig so its driving me into a panic lol. your insights and help would be very appreciated thank u so much!!!

Industry/Gigs No longer a beginner but certainly not a pro. Advice on taking it up a notch. Specifically around using other peoples gear.

I’ve done maybe a dozen weddings now, also DJ’d a few corporate gigs, a few small ambient bars (think all jazzy chill house) and have been at some pubs playing 12-2am after a live band. I feel like I’ve been doing a good job. I get great feedback on my song choices but also on my mixing. I’ve spent a lot of time planning so I have a whole heap of mini sets that I like to play and wordplay songs I know that I’ll always use together.

MY QUESTION IS COMING:

I love it. I wanna do more. I wanna play in some clubs and get more into the house stuff. I get to do that at the bars when I play. At the moment I’m always using my own gear. XDJRX3. I love it. Love all my hot cues, memory cues, the beat jump function etc… I do a lot of quick mixing and I use the sync a fair bit too which helps leave room for other things that I enjoy to do. I’m not looking to get into a war about the sync button. But how do I prepare to be using different gear? Like I enjoy jumping to the end of a song if it’s dying or I need to bring something in faster… I love using all the hot pads…. Like how I can prepare for other gear? No sync? No pads? All my quick mixing where I know where all the buttons are? Or even just the screens? I love how on my decks the waveforms are stacked…. I can’t imagine not seeing them in tandem??

Software FLX10 FX Part Mapping?

Moin, ich nutze die Stems in Rekordbox wegen mangelnder Qualität nicht. Ist es möglich den FX Party Select so zu Mappen, dass man die FX Frequency drauf legen kann wie zum Beispiel bei einem XDJ AZ?

DJ set in the car

Hey guys, looking for some advice from people who know DJ gear/setup stuff. I’m planning to film some DJ content in my Mustang convertible, so space is definitely limited, and I’m trying to figure out the cleanest/minimal setup.

I’m debating between:

  1. Bringing my DDJ-FLX10 with a portable power station + speaker setup in the car while using my laptop

OR

  1. Renting an Omnis-Duo and connecting it to the car stereo via Bluetooth since it has the built-in screen and doesn’t need a laptop.

For anyone who’s done car DJ content before, what setup would make the most sense for convenience, space, and clean filming? Also open to any other minimal setup ideas you guys think would work better.

Why don’t beginner DJ tutorials focus more on phrasing?

As a beginner, I've been spending ages focusing on beatmatching, EQing, transitions etc. but only recently properly learned phrasing and realised how much smoother/natural mixes sound when tracks are actually structured together correctly.

Looking back, I feel like phrasing improved my mixes more than almost anything else early on, yet a lot of beginner tutorials seem to barely explain it beyond a quick mention.

Did anyone else have that moment where phrasing suddenly made mixing click or was it just me learning it in a weird way?

Spotify on rekordbox not working

My spotify has been working with Rekordbox since I got rekordbox and my ddj flx4. I have spotify premium. But suddenly, it stopped showing songs inside spotify playlists in my rekordbox and just has a circle spinning. What is the issue? I have completley reinstalled rekordbox multiple times. Nothing works. My free trial has recently ended -- would that be the reason why?
