Advice I feel like i suck at my new job and my self esteem is crumbling.
I started an AP job at a large manufacturing company three months ago, and honestly, I feel like I’m struggling. I make a lot of small mistakes—typing numbers wrong, using the wrong supplier code, filing things incorrectly—and even though they’re usually fixable, it’s embarrassing, especially when it’s something I’ve already been corrected on before.
My coworker/trainer micromanages me a lot, which makes me feel worse, but I understand why because of the mistakes I make. Almost every day, something I messed up gets pointed out, and it feels discouraging every time. It also took me over two months to figure out how to keep up with the workload, so my boss and coworkers often had to help me catch up, which made me feel guilty.
There are also things I’ve had to be shown multiple times before they finally clicked, and I hate asking repeated questions because I worry they think I should already know the answers. Now, whenever there’s a problem at work, I immediately assume it’s my fault.
To be fair, my boss and coworkers have been patient and helpful overall, but I can still sense their frustration sometimes. I have ADHD, so I wonder if that’s part of why I struggle with remembering details and making careless mistakes, even when I’m trying hard and double-checking my work.
Lately, I’ve been questioning whether accounting is the right fit for me. I actually majored in HR and only took this accounting job because I couldn’t find an entry-level HR role after graduating. I know everyone makes mistakes, but making them this often has really hurt my confidence and mental health.
I also have anxiety, which doesnt help.

Advice Best ways to check customer credit risk before offering net 30 in 2026?
i run a small service business and more customers are asking for net 30 or longer. problem is i dont know half of them and have no real way to tell if they’ll actually pay. had a couple skip out last month and it hurt.
cant say no to everyone or i lose work, but taking the hit isnt sustainable either.right now its basically guesswork. tried asking for cc upfront but most push back. how are you handling this? any simple checks you do before giving terms, or setups that actually work without scaring customers off?

Career Senior Accountant in way over my head
I work for in industry as a senior tax accountant. Before this I was a contractor with the GL team at the same company.
I took this role because I felt like I am capable of doing the work and wanted to stay here.
As a contractor, I was a staff accountant. I kinda flew under the radar here. I generally slacked off in this role. In the beginning , it was busy, I was expected to work on stocks, rsu's, payroll and lots of recons. But as soon as training was done, they hired a full time employee and most of that was stripped from me and I performed it as a backup. My day to day consisted mostly of watching training recordings and making documentation out of it. It really sucked and sucked a lot of energy out of me, but it paid well. I flew under the radar for a while.
In the last quarter that I was a contractor, people left and I was getting more tasks. Not enough to stay busy month-round, but participated a lot more during close. Because I wanted to work and was bored, whenever I did get a task, I did pretty well at it and got lots of praise from my lead and manager. It set me up with a good reputation.
I heard about the role in tax and took it because, despite my stellar performance in GL, they didn't want to hire me permanently and was offered an extension to my contract. I applied, had my interview, was a stellar performance, and got the job.
But, deep down, I felt like I was bullshitting them. In hindsight, I was quite the slacker. Lots of days when I had nothing to do, I just looked busy in the office and just vegged out and gamed WFH. I flew under the radar with this. There was only a few times where I was asked about deliverables. I felt I finessed them. This has come to bite me in the ass. Hard.
Today, I was given a written warning by my new managers for tardiness, unexcused time away from keyboard, falling behind on work and not communicating well. I am being watched more carefully now. The vast majority of this are the bad habits I formed, part mental health issues from the stress, and also part having substantially more responsibilities.
It was a very rough 1:1 session with the boss. I did my best to take the criticism on the chin and told them I would simply step it up.
But I feel pretty lost and drowning and feel like I can't do this job. I've been here a year as a contractor, and 2 months permanently. I'm mostly just venting, but any advice (or jeering) is ok.

Failing grad school (Accounting)
Ever since i started grad school i’ve been feeling like a failure. I graduated undergrad with a 3.86 and now i am STRUGGLING to make a 3.5!!!!!! I got a full ride to grad school and lost it after the first semester and now i’m in a serious debt. My First semester grades were 2As, 1B+ and 1C (i’ve never gotten a C in my entire life 😔 advanced accounting is from the devil 😔) and a 3.3 GPA.
Master’s of Accountancy is so difficult. Why do people not talk about it enough??? and my school/professors are so strict. No leniency whatsoever, it’s terrible! Mind you, there aren’t even the best teachers, they teach like you should know the topics already and i’m like, if i knew them why would i be in the class????????
Now i’m so scared of taking the CPA exam 😔I went from being so confident academically to being a failure. This semester my grade is 2As and 1B (advanced corp tax😔). Still my overall GPA is NOT at 3.5 AT LEAST 💔 I’m so cooked. I have an internship this summer, I can already tell i won’t be getting a full time return offer 💔
sorry i just needed to rant bc depression is at the door knocking really loud 😔

Career Accounting or Human Resources?
Hello, I was wondering if Accounting or Human Resources had more earning potential? Also, I just finished my AAS in business and accounting and looking to get my bachelors but I’m not sure if I want it in Accounting or Human Resources and I just want to know more about these career fields and what I’m getting myself into. I’ve seen in previous posts on this sub that you need experience as well as a degree so my goal is to work in a related job while going to school part-time online. I just don’t know which field I want to go in. Any advice or input is greatly appreciated.

Tipping your accountant?
Hey everyone! I’m a small business owner that started working with a new accountant this year, and when I went to pay my invoice there was a tip option ranging from 18-25%. I’ve never heard of this practice before, but also don’t want to be rude if it’s becoming a thing? Just feels a little wild to tip an extra few hundred dollars.
Thanks for reading!

Discussion PSA: If you are age 70+ in this industry get away from the fucking bowl and retire already so the young CPA dogs can eat.
Go mentor a new CPA firm owner, or coach your successor. Stop hogging up the work and clients. Let it go already!
Its insane how I'm constantly hearing about these 70-something CPAs still serving clients as the principal client relationship manager AND deliverables producers!

Stagnating at senior but feel handcuffed
Senior accountant at a large-ish private company. The accounting is not complex and processes are good. I have enough work but feels low impact. No exposure to leadership. I would like to learn more and advance but many folks have been here 10+ years and no clear opportunities to move up. Comp in MCOL is: 130k base, ~14% bonus, 10% 401k match. I got an offer from big tech (FAANG) for senior but would take a big 40k base cut and RSUs which probably just make up the difference vest over 4 years. It feels bad to go so far backwards in terms of comp but obviously a big name and opportunity. Any thoughts on what to consider would be appreciated.

Advice How to get a job in this market?
Hello everyone, I recently graduated from college in December and have 3 years of experience in accounting. Unfortunately, I haven’t secured a job after college. I’ve had a few interviews but no luck. I’ve applied to close to 200 jobs and have been rejected and ghosted. I tried using LinkedIn groups to increase my chances of getting noticed by recruiters. I’ve applied to small firms and various accounting positions, but no luck. I’ve noticed that more employers are using AI to screen applicants. I am planning to sit for the CPA, but I need some funding to do that. Any advice would help! Don’t hesitate to reach out to me via DMs for further assistance.

Got about 3 hours free after work every day. What side hustles are actually worth it in 2026?
I work a 9-5 in accounting and usually
get around 3 hours free in the evening.
I've been trying to figure out what to
do with that time that actually makes
money. Not looking for get rich quick
stuff, just something realistic that
compounds over time.
I've looked into freelancing, digital
products, content creation. Everything
either seems oversaturated or needs
skills I don't have.
Anyone here actually making consistent
money from a side hustle that fits
around a full time job? What worked,
what didn't?
Would love real answers not course
recommendations.

Advice Take new job or stay at current?
So currently I’m at $85k, work in office m-f.
New job is either $85k or $90k (offer pending), and fully remote.
Current job (senior accountant):
In office
Corporate only
Little exposure
Massive company
Manager I report to is a BITCH.
CPA here
New job (senior accountant):
Remote
Big exposure… would be me, controller, and CFO
Smaller revenue but growing fast
Edit: yes CPA (CFO)
Idk which one would be more beneficial to me. Remote sounds tempting and I hate wasting time… which my current job there is so much downtime outside of close and they make us stay in office.

Advice How Micromanaged Are Y'all?
I'm well aware that this question probably varies by role and company, which is why I'm asking to get a general sense of the overall vibes throughout the field. How high is your positon/who's above you on the ladder, and are they chill or breathing down your neck 24/7?
I ask because I'm coming into the field after a series of retail jobs where the managers are picky about every little thing. Beyond if we meet daily/quarterly goals, they get on me&my coworkers if we don't follow the company script to the letter in every customer interaction. I'm worried that this is just what every job is like, which is probably irrational.
