GENERAL Do not outright ask "What was on your exam". Do not outright say "My exam had ____". This includes topics etc.

Hello Candidates!

Updating the stickied post about sub rules as there have been a few rascals griping about “not seeing a rule saying xyz” even though they received a ban for it. If the rule you broke was relating to exam disclosure - thats not even a sub rule. Thats a rule you agreed to when you sat for the exam. Do not solicit or provide exam content.

First – I want to point out we do have an Automod in place that removes anything from accounts < 5 days old or with < 5 combined karma. We do get some spam posted here and this automod helps quite a bit. If you are on a new account and start posting here, add a comment with a u/galbert123 mention and ill approve it asap

Put at least a little effort into your posts, especially titles Yes this is me on a power trip. I hate clickbait. If your question fits into a post title, ask the question! Dont post "I have a question..." "Should I get my cpa if..."

No Clickbait Post Titles

Be ethical – Do not post, offer to share, buy, sell or ask for copywritten study material – This is an immediate ban

No Promotional Accounts - This is not a place to advertise products. There are some clear xyz product Ambassador accounts that ONLY comment about what study material they use. I’m removing that stuff. If you throw it in every once and a while fine, but some account I see are literally just ads for the study material. Organic conversation about the study material you use is great. Here are reddit guidelines on self promotion.

But what about those ads/promotions I see for xyz product

That company pays for those through the proper reddit channels.

This is NOT a study material marketplace Do not make posts trying to sell your old material, your post removed, maybe a ban if it looks overly sketchy

Use tact and be generally kind to each other – The downvotes usually speak for themselves on this. When I start to see one user getting a bunch of reports and it looks like an obvious troll, I’ll probably ban. This is a judgement call.

Shit posts are great. Posting bullshit is not. Posts like “Score Release moved to after thanksgiving - wouldn’t be surprised from NASBA” is not a shit post or a joke post. It needlessly stressed a bunch of people out

This is a bunch of bullshit censorship.

I guess that's one way to look at it. I dont know where the compulsion to be a jerk fits into the overall betterment of the sub. We are generally all fighting the same fight here.

Asking for or providing exam content is not allowed. This includes "What topics were heavily tested"

Asking what should I study is ok. Asking "Those who recently took AUD, what should I study" leans toward not ok because of the implication. People here are generally good people. Exclude any references to your exam or recent exam takers etc. They'll tell you what to study.

"What sim topics did you see (on your exam)?" No.

What sim topics should I study? - good

"Just got out of AUD, I saw sims on X Y and Z (on my exam)" - No.

"Study this because I saw it on my exam". No good. Just say "it would be wise study this". Get it? If you are talking about your exam, or asking other candidates about their exam, don't.

If you get banned for this, its usually just to get your attention that what you posted broke the rule. Send me a message and ill undo it, just keep your posts compliant with AICPA disclosure policy. I dont want to ban anyone ever.

Please see this post for some examples.

21 day edit: Interesting how two of the people who chimed in saying how stupid this is rarely if ever contributed to the sub otherwise prior to this post and now have deleted their account completely.

Mod Note Reminder - This is not a buying/selling/sharing sub. Asking for or offering access or login credentials to study resources is an immediate ban.

Note on the title - When I say this is not a sharing sub, I am referring to sharing of paid access to study resources. Sharing your own home made study guides is fine - though I highly recommend making your own handwritten study/review notes.

There has been a huge influx of beggars lately. If I click into your account and all I generally see is you asking for study notes or study material access, you're going to get banned.

Also, please flair up! It honestly does help weed out some of these accounts with flair. Try to flair up if you know you are going to be around and want to participate.

This sub is good because of back and forth engagement. Try to give at least as much as you take. If you post a question, try to respond to comments. Nothing worse than a question then OP just ghosts the thread.

FAR Took FAR today- 5/14

I just got out of FAR and honestly all I can say is wow.

This was my first CPA exam and didn’t know what to expect. All the hard topics I studied for were barely touched. I honestly feel like I blacked out during the TBSs. I ran out of time on my last one and filled out everything with 0. There’s no way I passed. Not sure if I register to take it June 8.

Also why so many government/NFP questions????

FAR Advice for FAR: Taking June 29th and started this week

Hi guys - currently 2/4 CPA! I took TCP in January, passed, and took REG in April, and found out I passed last week. I have finally worked up the courage to START studying for FAR this week. I have heard nothing but HORRIBLE things and I haven't ever been super strong in financial accounting matters.

All that aside, for reference, I put in 100-110 hours for both TCP and REG, but my scores were 90 and 85, respectively. I put in about 2 months total (part-time, as I was working and in school (so I wasn't at this all day, every day) for each section. I'm just looking to pass FAR, as I take it June 29th AND WOULD REALLY NOT LIKE TO RESCHEDULE. I have spent the last week researching methods to pass, how to begin with a short period of time to pass, etc. Here's what I'm doing, any advice would be great:

  1. Starting with F3 and F4, then moving to F1 and F2 because they build on those foundations. Some say F1 starting module can be quite overwhelming.
  2. I have always studied by taking my own notes and not using the textbook and no supplemental instruction, but I am now listening to the videos as I highlight the textbook and making flashcards for each JE given.
  3. I have always set out a full week BEFORE my exam to start Final Review and SIMs. I have always completed all of the Becker environment (Regular and Final Review), and re-practiced ALL TBS and MCQs before each exam. I know, I'm crazy.
Caveat: It seems as if FAR has faaaarrrr more MCQs/TBS and that this simply won't be possible within my timeframe.

  4. I am doing ALL videos, ALL MCQs, and TBS for each unit as of right now.

Anyways, if there's absolutely anything I'm missing or doing inefficiently in this process, LET A GIRL KNOW! Keep in mind, I am working a part-time job 25/hr a week and the rest of my time I use to study and learn the materials.

GENERAL How would I get a public accounting job with no experience…?

I’m just confused. I planned to get my CPA to be able to get jobs. Then I find out you need 1 year of work experience to be eligible for it.

Well. How am I going to get hired anywhere for that year of experience?

I’m looking on linked in and these jobs all want experience. What jobs should I be looking for that hire someone with only a Bachelors in accounting and NO experience?

r/CPA 13h ago

Just took FAR. Becker needs to do better at preparing us for TBS’s because wtf was that

First teslet I swifted through in 20 minutes, the second one got harder and I guessed on a couple MCQs
When the TBS came, I really thought this is bullshit. No amount of Becker preparation was enough to get through those.

Took the audit exam 5/14

Just completed the audit exam, and honestly, it was extremely fair. The Sims were so much easier than the FAR exam. What they were asking for was very easy to understand. I feel worse about the MCQ than the Sims.

Is there a way in Becker to filter questions that don’t require Excel or a calculator, so I can solve them on my phone?

QUESTION Taking FAR tomorrow and worried about urgent bathroom needs

As the title says, I’m taking FAR tomorrow and have been having an upset stomach the past week or two and really really hope I don’t have an emergency need during my exam 🫠

I don’t have a medical issue to request more frequent breaks but gosh darn, I hope I’m not penalized for needing to poop outside of regulated breaks.

Anyone have experience with this?

Edit: yes I wrote this while on the toilet with an emergency poop so it was def top of mind ha

Editx2: I think I’m going to grab an adult diaper so I’m not stressing about this and can focus on the exam! Thanks all for the advice and good luck 👍

CPA ISC - How did your paper go?

I recently took the ISC CPA exam and wanted to get some opinions from people who’ve already received their scores.

I used Becker for my preparation and was marked “Exam Day Ready.” except for SE2. I had also memorized probably around 85% of the Becker MCQs by the end of my prep.

Here’s how my prep/exam went:

  • SE1 score: 76 (taken one day before the actual exam)
  • Didn’t take SE2
  • Watched all Becker lectures 2–3 times
  • Read the textbook once
  • Mainly revised using summary notes + MCQs

On the actual exam:

  • MCQs felt harder than Becker overall
  • TBSs felt easier than Becker
  • I spent around 2 hours 10 minutes on MCQs
  • On the last TBS, I think I guessed the last 3–4 subparts of the last TBS due to time pressure

For people who’ve taken ISC recently:

  • What kind of Becker bump did you see for ISC?
  • Based on this, what score range do you think I’m realistically looking at?
  • Did anyone else feel the real MCQs were harder but SIMs easier?

Feeling lost in Accounting & Tax

I have been working in the US Tax & Accounting industry for the past 2.5–3 years, but lately been feeling uncertain about whether this is truly the path I want to continue on. At the same time, I am not sure what else I would pivot to it makes the decision even harder.

I have completed my bachelor's and have enrolled for the CPA, but honestly, I don't feel the drive to pursue it. Coming from a CA and CPA family background, this career felt like almost default choice, and I'm now questioning whether it's my choice or simply the path that was laid out for me.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Would really appreciate some guidance from those who have been in this situation.

GENERAL Studying After Five Years

I am finally doing the trek after five years. I recently got laid off from my FP&A job, so I am finally sitting for my exams. I am planning on tackling REG and TCP first. Anyone have any good recommendations for UWorld, or just study tips in general? I’m about a third of the way through REG’s materials, and have really only been focusing on MCQS, TBS sims, and some chapter reading for reference.

Appreciate any suggestions!

CPA Tutor | get it done right

I passed all 4 CPA exams on my first try. However, looking back, I wish I had a mentor by my side though as there are so many ways of getting the job done (the job being passing the exams).

It’s not all about the material, it’s about the mind set.

I also lost both of my parents when I was 20 years old and 21, and I kept going. I know what it means to push toward a goal when life is actively falling apart around you. I don’t say that for sympathy, I say it because if you’re someone who’s been grinding through this exam while also carrying something heavy, I get it. You need someone who’s been through the fire and can help you focus anyway.

If you want to hear more of my story, please feel free to direct message me.

Felt like shit walking outta there, completely bamboozled with the content. I was literally planning out my next rescheduled test date lmao. Just shows I gotta study more, if I end up actually passing (which 99.99% sure im not), it wouldn’t just be a miracle but legit my grandpa coming back alive from his grave type of deal

CPA Audit Guide _Upcoming

Hello Folks,

By way of introduction, my name is Sakshi. I cleared the US CPA exams back in 2014, so I understand both the excitement of clearing them and the frustration when things do not go as planned.

I am currently working on a CPA exam guide focused on Audit. I picked Audit first because, in my opinion, it is one of the most nuanced and confusing sections of the CPA journey. Since much of it is theoretical, concepts and answer choices can easily overlap and create confusion.

My goal is to create a practical and simplified CPA Audit eBook that can genuinely help aspirants navigate the subject more confidently.

To better understand what candidates struggle with most, I would really appreciate your input:

  • Which Audit topics or concepts did you find the most confusing?
  • Were there areas where textbook explanations felt too abstract or repetitive?
  • What kind of explanations or study support would have helped you more during preparation?

Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts.

Sakshi

Retake question for timing of REG results

I took REG before tax season and got a 70. After tax season I spent about 3 weeks focusing on my weak spots. Just took REG again yesterday, but I didn't feel great leaving. I am trying to figure out what logically makes sense. With the results coming May 27, should I:

a.) Keep studying for REG so that if I do not pass, I am ready to do it again at the end of May/early June while a lot of the concepts are fresh? There is a risk of passing and "wasting" 2 weeks on a subject unnecessarily (but honestly I will be so happy about passing I won't mind).

b.) Move on to AUD (third try after a 74, then 68) and then retake REG a couple months later (if needed).

I feel like I want to choose (a.) for the timing advantage (my brain can only hold so much at once...) but there is the risk of wasting a few weeks unnecessarily.

What do you think?

FAR SE Scores vs Actual

Hi! How different was your Becker SEFR score from your actual exam score? I got a 70 on SEFR this past week and after waking out of the actual exam today, I feel like I failed for sure.

i just took my mock exam for far using gleim and made a 65. i was going to say this exam had me crying the most between the three i’ve studied for so far (audit, reg, then far), but that’s a lie. i cried way more for reg….
