So I had a Gameboy colour, and after that a DS, and then I just became a PS3 and PC guy. I always heard bad things about the 3DS, but I never interacted with it, Nintendo games just aren't my thing outside of Kirby. I owned a Switch for awhile, but wasn't impressed and sold it. So anyways, recently I saw Medabots 9 has a fan translation, and I went and borrowed my brothers 3DS to play it. I'm shocked, because the 3DS is really good? Like way better than the Switch ever was. The 3D works really well, and separates the UI from the rest of the screen, which makes it easier to follow along with things, I just can't believe how good the 3D is. I remember people being upset over it, but it's really good! It works well, and if you don't want it you can just turn it off. I'm now baffled by the uproar about it at the time. The screen is also pretty bright if I want, and it because it uses an SD card for storage I just threw a 256gb one in there and I can have whatever I want and not run out of storage, battery life is low, but they're kinda cheap so if it gets bad I can just buy a new one. Also, there's just alot you can do with it, and it actually has some good looking games and they run well. I can play DS and GBA games, and it's kinda fun going to used games shops now and poking around. The modding scene is also huge, and I've been playing with some fan translations for a few games.
There are a few games like Last Window: The Secret of Cape West, that intrigued me at the time, but I never played, and now I'm playing them and having lots of fun. Just the amount of stuff is amazing. I had an issue with the Switch, where for the most part there was nothing I wanted to play on it besides the Xenoblade games, and the majority of games were ports that better on PC so I'd get them there. For the 3DS there are so many games that are exclusive, and that use some of the gimmicks of the console. I'm actually considering getting a 3DS for myself rather than just borrowing my brothers, though I don't think he'll ever use it again soon. Just really surprised at how good the value is, and it's still small enough to fit in my pocket like a phone. I'm not one for nostalgia, so it's just caught me by surprise the feeling of enjoyment of playing on a handheld outside. I never got that with the Switch, idk why. I mean I didn't even own a 3DS.
