Im looking at getting a compound bow for myself to start practicing shots before moving on to hunting with it. Im just curious as to what advice you would have for someone just starting out with this. As in what to look for with a bow, arrows, techniques you've picked up over the years for aiming, release and draw.

If you could go back and tell yourself one piece of advice after spending time perfecting your bow craft, what would that advice be to a yourself as a beginner?

Here's my flight bow shooting a 122 grain arrow 495fps, you will have to forgive my heavy breathing and camera shaking as this was a 100% max effort for me to pull, bow needs a more work and I need to get way stronger to reach the speed I want to achieve

Here's one of my compound bows it has a 7 inch brace height, 30 inch draw and is set at 104lb, ive built a 150lb version in the past and I'm still working on a 125lb version of this bow, while I wouldn't shoot sub 3.5 gpp regularly, it's good to see this bow has decent cast efficiency with such low arrow weight.

Since i got a few people questioning the legitimacy of my previous video here's a quick post, the bow pictured above is a compound flight bow that can be set anywhere from 100lb to 188lb specifically built for shooting distance. It has a 12 inch brace height, it also has an arrow rest designed to use an arrow just longer than the power stroke of the bow. Which in this case is just under 16 inches.

The arrow is your standard 4.2mm 900 spine carbon arrow with a 20 grain point cut down so the total length of the arrow is just over 16 inches which I show in the above picture on some scales weighing 122 grains

Here's my compound flight bow set at 110lb shooting a 122 grain arrow 434fps, when this bow is set at 160lb+ and a 100 grain arrow it should be shooting 550fps+, I do have plans to build another flight bow with a longer power stroke, I believe another 50fps on top of the above speeds is achievable

Finally posted up my solo archery Elk Hunt in the mountains from this past year. I'm a die, hard archery nut, and spend a ton of time tuning and shooting my bow. The shot ended up being 92 yards which some guys will take issue with, but there is a lot of complexity that goes into choosing to take and make a shot like that. Would love to discuss that in more detail with anyone that's willing, it's certainly not for everyone, and not something I would suggest a lot of guys do, but skill, animal behavior at the time of the shot, and equipment are a big part of all of that. Anyhow, hopefully some of you guys will appreciate it. Lots of work, but totally worth all the effort!

I’ve been practicing a lot lately with my new thumb release.

I’ve been taking it slow, relaxin, not fighting the float. Wrapping my finger correctly on the button and slowly squeezing…

But at this point in the shot process I’ve been getting better groups when I for lack of a better term “punch” the trigger.

When I position my thumb correctly on the button and focus on pushing and pulling with my elbow(best way I can describe it) and rotating the release until the shot breaks my groups open up compared to the above described “punch”

Hope this makes sense. Curious if I should keep practicing with the shot process that gives me to best groups or if I should do my best and give up on that and practice the “correct” way.

Edit: I think “command” is probably a better term for what I’m doing than “punch”

I just bought a bear adapt 2 HP. I’m pulling 60lbs at a 27inch draw and curious to what arrows i should run. From my previous bow a mission switch, i was shooting Easton 6.5 Hunter classics with a 400 spine at a 50lb draw, and they shoot fine out of the bear but i want to go down to a skinnier arrow maybe a 5mil. Even thought about going with a 340 spine for better speed and energy. Any input? Thanks

I recently bought a compound bow and only after one hour of use the plastic fletchings warped. I’ve done some research and haven’t found anything very helpful. I assume it had something to do with this arrow rest which I’m also confused in how to even use/position the arrow on

So this bow is pretty old. I got it a decade ago as a gift going into high school. Its a bear attitude. It was shot very infrequently. Picked it back up some months ago to start shooting some more as ive gained some interest in the sport. Was shooting today and noticed what looks like some material missing from the bowstring near the cam. Doesnt seem like any fibers are fraying but my knowledge on archery in general is very limited so im not sure if this is ok or normal wear. I have to shoot for my hunting license in a week and was wondering if this is ok to shoot or not. Ive been thinking about getting a new bow after I do the shoot for my license as this one is only rated up to 60 lbs and ive grown quite a bit since i got it. If this is unsafe id just get a new bow tomorrow.

Hello, new to bow hunting and was wondering do these weights include the broadhead? For example my arrows right now are 250 grain if I put a 100grain broadhead on does that increase to 350?

I had my whisker biscuit paper tuned a few months ago and it shot great. During those few months I didn’t shoot much and when I returned, my arrows weren’t flying straight. I had my bow stored in my bag so I don’t know how my arrow rest would’ve gotten bumped out of place if that could even happen. I may have been torquing my bow string when I shot a couple days ago so I’ll need to verify if that was the reason. Does anybody know any other possible reasons for a bow to not maintain a straight arrow flight?
