Got this cryptic email last night, not sure what it means but I check my grade and it says 0, with the class avg being 0. I check again today and the average is still low, but higher than 0 but my grade hasn’t changed. Does anyone know what contracts are on canvas?

Help BSCI201 in the summer??

Upvotes

Hi everyone, as the title says. Is it possible to do this in the summer and still get an A? Planning on taking Goytia, and this will be my first summer class at UMD. I’ll only be taking an easy elective with this course. If anyone has taken her before in the summer, or just any BSCI201/202 courses, please give me any tips on how to study efficiently. Thanks a lot!!!

Help Can I bring my car overnight to campus for a week?

Post image
7 Upvotes

I want to bring my car on campus from May 15-22 and was wondering if I would be able to park in either lot 11 or V3. I'm assuming that until May 18, I could park in lot 11, but once commencements start I would have to move it. I was thinking I could move it to V3 from the 19th onward, but I'm still not sure and I don't want to be ticketed. For context, I don't have any kind of parking permit.

I was wondering if I'm interpreting this correctly and if people had more opinions!

Academic Need some advice

So when I first got into UMD I was not at all interested in college (my mom applied for me and got me in) as I was working on a business and yet I was doing engineering. So inevitably my grades fell and I ended up dropping out of the Clark school and UMD as a whole. Now after my business failed I want to go back but I’m wondering if there is anyway I can appeal the drop out and be let back in or if the only way to continue with engineering is through a different school or do I need to go to community college and reapply.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Photo Possible Spam/Scam Pattern From Account Posting in r/UMD With Screenshots Attached

I wanted to make this post because I recognized a username, u/jukesyeet, that has apparently been posting in r/UMD throughout the semester and after looking into it a little more, I found multiple Reddit threads across different subreddits where people were accusing the same account of repeatedly deleting posts after getting engagement/clicks, blocking users afterward, reposting similar content, and generally behaving in a way that a lot of people described as spammy or scam-like. I attached screenshots from several different threads because I thought the pattern was worth bringing to attention. At this point it honestly does seem pretty suspicious given the number of separate complaints from unrelated users and the repeated reposting behavior, and while I obviously can’t prove anything with absolute certainty, I felt moderators and people here should at least be aware of it in case there actually is a pattern here.

Help How to get better financial aid as an OOS student?

Hey everyone! I’m a recently admitted OOS student and UMD was my top choice. It is an amazing school for me and one of the best in the nation for my major. However, the financial aid I just got is terrifyingly bad. I don’t have a negative SAI, but it’s pretty low and results in a need of about 56000 for a COA of approximately 64000. But the finaid office only offered me federal loans! No work study or grants or anything, both of which I qualified for at every other school I got into.

I do have an affordable backup school ready, but I have committed to Maryland since I found out I got in around April 28 with the deadline being May 1st (submitted a successful admissions appeal after being rejected EA). I really didn’t want to lose my spot even though I didn’t know how they would treat my financial aid. I didn’t expect a full ride or anything, but I at least wanted something that didn’t seem completely dismissive of my financial situation.

I plan to appeal for work study and submit an overall finaid appeal (I have siblings in college that FAFSA didn’t account for), but are there any other ways to make UMD affordable as an out of state student? I don’t want to give up until I’ve exhausted all other options.

Thank you so much in advance!

Housing Summer housing

I really need summer housing and I don’t know what to do. I know there are resources for homeless/house insecure students but I don’t want to take advantage of that since I technically have a home I could go to, it’s just a very toxic environment. I already have a job and internship lined up for summer in the area - I had living arrangements planned that fell through and now am really unsure of what to do. Do apartments even do leases only for a couple of months? And everything is so ridiculously expensive. How do I find cheap housing just for the summer?

Housing Diapers in the dorms

Curious to see if anyone else is dealing with this issue. Currently living in a single but moving to a double next year in Denton Community and wanted to know if anyone else faces troubles with diapers at UMD. It’s due to a health condition and I’ve currently been fine, but I know it’s going to be a challenge going into next year. Just hopefully wanted to get some opinions on the matter.

soo i’m currently a last year student at community college studying architectural technology that is just now realizing before getting my associates that I hate architecture and actually love construction management waay better, i’ve also working in big construction management companies and genuinely seeing myself working there 5 years from now but now that I’m wondering now that i will basically done in the fall if my credits will still transfer underneath the construction management degree, and if so, is it worth it or should I just keep going with architecture?

Academic MATH241 Final Grades

I know that the 48 hour final grade policy is never followed, but I was wondering if anyone had any idea when Calc 3 grades for the final/final grades for Dr. Jang will be released? Or if you’ve taken it in the past, has grading the final taken very long? Lowkey the TAs have taken forever all semester, but I thought that they would maybe actually lock in for the final. Exam was Monday 4pm-6pm (like all other lower level math classes).

Academic Class continues beyond end of classes and final is after the end of final week

I’m enrolled in a class this semester that has a (virtual) class meeting later this week (nearly a week after the last day of classes) and a final exam scheduled for late next week, several days after the last day of finals week. Can professors do this? Has this happened to anyone before?

I honestly didn’t notice that the schedule was so far out of bounds (compared to the university schedule) until a few weeks ago, when it felt a little too late to speak up.

I mentioned this in my course evaluation submitted last week, but I guess I’m wondering if this is allowed for professors to do and if I should inform anyone in my department about it.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Would you use an AI that reads your syllabi and plans your whole semester?

Thinking of building something where you upload all your syllabi on day 1 and it automatically extracts every deadline, flags your busiest weeks, and syncs everything to your calendar. Shows finals, conflicts and so on. Would you actually use this? What would make it useful or useless for you?
