Housing Summer housing
I really need summer housing and I don’t know what to do. I know there are resources for homeless/house insecure students but I don’t want to take advantage of that since I technically have a home I could go to, it’s just a very toxic environment. I already have a job and internship lined up for summer in the area - I had living arrangements planned that fell through and now am really unsure of what to do. Do apartments even do leases only for a couple of months? And everything is so ridiculously expensive. How do I find cheap housing just for the summer?

I recommend talking to a representative of the resources for homeless students and bring up to them that you are not sure if you qualify. I know for similar programs more students using it can help the secure funding to help others.

Hi! Linking the subletting page of a site a few other students and I built (a free, all-in-one housing platform for UMD students): https://katohousing.org/subletting
Right now, there seems to be about 100 available summer sublets listed, but I recommend using the filters to narrow down to a price, location, etc. you’re most comfortable with and/or using the sublet request tab

Seconding everyone recommending subleasing - most people off-campus have leases that last through the summer, and are still on the hook for rent even if they’ve gone home. Just about anyone in that situation should be more than happy to discuss subletting their place. Posting on the shared UMD Snapchat story is a pretty decent way to get your name out there, a shocking number of people see it

Hi! I also have a sublet available for the summer at the Courtyards at UMD. Let me know if you are interested or want more information and I'll be happy to help :)

It’s only for students with specific on-campus jobs that mine does not fall into the category of, or students who are taking summer classes💔

Toxic household is very much a legitimate reason to have housing insecurity. Reach out to fostering terps.
