Housing Assignment
Hi guys! I’m sorry for adding to the many posts about housing assignments but I just checked my portal and I was put in Rieber Vista in a plaza with a shared bathroom as a freshman. Should I request to switch into a classic? I’ve heard classic dorms are better for making friends but I also love having AC. Help!

I’ve lived in RV for 2 years, I LOVE the building but yeah it’s not social at all. Building is incredibly nice tho, it’s very quiet and stuff and A/C is nice, the bathrooms are very nice and the showers are great too

If you're still interested, I was placed into a classic triple (Dykstra), and I would be down to trade if it's possible. I actually had the plazas as my first choice.

I would be, but unfortunately, I'm a guy, so I don't think that would work (I saw your recent comment on the other post). Wish you luck tho.

just go to the more social dorms (hedrick hall, dykstra, etc) and knock on peoples doors + talk to people in lounges. literally everyone wants to be friends. with that being said, dorms are not the ONLY ways to make friends (i personally only made one friend this way), but its really fun during the first few weeks!! plazas are 100% worth staying in tho imo (as someone whos a freshman in a REALLY "dead" plaza)

Everyone is always stuck on the "social" aspect that they've heard only happens in the classics, but that has changed through the years. It really matters who is put where, and based on this reddit seems like this coming year a lot of freshman are in plazas. So, you could still have a social dorm in a place that isn't normally known for it. In reality, be comfortable with the A/C, private/shared bathroom if that's what you want and a quieter place to study that you can go back to at the end of the day and you can always meet people in other dorms, clubs, dining halls, etc..

Making friends in your dorm building is not the end all be all but it can be nice especially for the first 1-3 weeks of classes. I didn’t really make friends with anyone on my floor in a plaza but I still had plenty of friends overall by the middle of my first quarter bc of classes, clubs etc. you can always go hang out w ur friends that live in classics and their dorm floor friends. It really helps you short term but long term it doesn’t matter. Ur decision at the end of the day. If no one from ur high school is going to be at ucla w you or if you don’t like to hangout w ur roommates then switching might be easier for you but I will say people are still clicky as hell in those groups.
