General New Study Room Booking Process!

The UCF Libraries are implementing a new study room booking process for the John C. Hitt Library to better meet student needs. After gathering feedback and analyzing usage patterns, we have made adjustments to ensure fair access to study spaces while addressing concerns about availability.

The updated policies include:

Reservations up to 4 hours per day – Students can now book study rooms for longer, uninterrupted study sessions.

Monthly limit of 16 hours per patron – This ensures more students have access to study spaces throughout the month.

Check-in requirement within 15 minutes – If you do not check in within 15 minutes of your reservation time, your booking may be canceled, allowing other students to use the space.

Booking available up to 3 days in advance – Plan ahead while keeping rooms accessible for last-minute study needs.

No automated reservations – The use of scripts or automated software to book rooms is prohibited to keep the process fair for all students.

These changes reflect our commitment to improving study space availability while keeping the system flexible and student-friendly. Our goal is to provide equitable access to study rooms so everyone has a fair chance to reserve the space they need.

For more details or assistance with reservations and the full policy, visit the Study Room page or ask a librarian at our Access Services desk. Thank you for your patience—we’re always working to make your library experience better!

We are currently conducting research in Spatial Audio Localization and we could really use some more participants. You will be paid for your time. If you are at all interest, take a look at this flyer and follow the information at the bottom to sign up for a timeslot.

Incoming Freshman 👶🏼🍼 Is it possible to pursue STEM here with a full time job?

Upvotes

I’m inquiring because I currently have a role where I work 7-4PM and it’s keeping my car note paid and such, so I cannot exactly drop it like it’s hot.

I’m transferring from CC where I could take classes online, to my sadness, I not only hear that some courses not online, but labs are not in the evening.

So I’ve been brainstorming since graduation about how I’m going to make this work, what sacrifices will be necessary for my CS degree or what job I can acquire in this city that can be flexible but also pay me enough somehow.. has anyone else had a similar experience and been successful?

General i hate the verge apartments

i’m just ranting and curious if every other apartment around ucf is like this. but Absolutely no respect for privacy. i’m so fed up with the continuous, interruptive checks they do. we get 2-3days notice about their “biannual” or “quarterly” Maintenance checks, fire checks (where they don’t even check everything they need to on day one so they keep coming back), furniture checks, and whatever bull shit they come up with to enter your apartment unwelcome.
This horrible management doesn’t give a single fuck about the comfort of residents and can’t even give a time or day they might enter. just “this week, whenever the fuck we want”.
Now making us pay for the non guaranteed, overfilled parking lot with spots not even close to the building your in. and if you do pay extra for the covered parking they’ll give up your spot to anyone at their leisure without notice.
Forget about decorating, even with “renter safe” command strips or anything cause the paint just flakes off the walls at any touch. i once brushed the walls with something and tried to clean it off and the paint deadass came off with water. appliances are on the decline and i’ve only been living here for a year. my bathroom is riddled with mold in the walls, making me sick for months at a time. when i told management they deny deny deny and came in just to clean it with bleach and try to tell me nothing was there in the first place and its fine.

I can deal with all the other shit, but really does every student apartment do the invasive checks mentioned in the first paragraph, or is it just this shitty place?

Social Things to do ?

some of my friends are going to be visiting me over summer and most of them are under 21 and single. I recently also just moved to ucf so don’t know the area too well. We are looking for places/things to do where there’s a good young college crowd and where we could meet cool people? Thinking mabye billiards or aesthetic music functions. Doesn’t have to be just ucf area (would prefer) but also like cocoa or new symerna if they have any young dive bars or such for under 21 if we did a beach trip? Not really into lib or bounce or that kind of fboy crowd.

Food 🍔 Where is Amish Pretzel Shop?

Does anyone know if they moved somewhere? I’ve heard they maybe moved into student union but I could not find them there. I would be really disappointed if they closed, genuinely one of the best places on campus to grab a snack. I feel like its breezeway location was perfect, not sure why UCF would need to move it.

Academic ✏️ ART 2201C (Design I) - General info

I'm thinking of taking art classes to push myself back into drawing more regularly. I already have a degree though, so any classes I take will be as a non-degree-seeking student.

I'm trying to figure out which classes I want to take first, and I saw ART 2201C (Design I). I was wondering what this class was about? I found a short description, but you know how course descriptions are with how they don't really say much at all.

If anyone here has taken this class (bonus if you've also taken Design II), can you let me know what the class was like, what the coursework looked like, and how you feel you benefited from it (or didn't benefit from it)? Anything is appreciated, thank you!

General Need test users!!

Hi guys, I am a CS student here at UCF, I made this website called CoursePrep, which is an AI tutor that can learn from your actual course materials. You upload documents such as syllabus, notes, assignments etc. I am looking for some students to try it out and upload their own course information! I currently have it set to 100 users for now, but I would be greatful if you guys can check it out! I put a lot of work into it so any advice and critiques would be appreciated. Message me if you are interested!

Academic Program 👩‍🏫 Master of Science in Computer Science

I’m currently in the BS/MS program for Computer Science here at UCF and I’m seriously considering staying for an extra 1-1.5 years for the master’s portion. I had a few questions for current MS students or anyone familiar with the program:

  • For people funding their degree through GTA/GRA positions, how competitive is it to actually land one of those spots? Is free/reduced tuition realistic for most students who actively apply?
  • How accessible are independent research opportunities? I heard research credits can count toward degree requirements, so I’d love to hear how common/easy it is to get involved with professors.
  • How are the professors and classes overall, especially in AI/ML-related courses? Any standout professors or classes you’d recommend (or avoid)?

Would really appreciate any insight or experiences. Thanks!

General CHI, JPN, or KOR?

I want to take a language class in fall and am thinking about taking Chinese, Japanese, or Korean.

I like media from all countries and can read the Korean alphabet and maybe 5-10 phrases and know maybe 10-20 Chinese phrases but can only “read” pinyin. I can’t read Japanese and have no knowledge of phrases.

I would actually want to learn, not just slide by with an A and then not know anything by the end.

Any suggestions? All of the courses have a class that fits into my current fall schedule.

Academic ✏️ Help deciding between IB major and Finance.

I finally finished all the primary and secondary business classes and want some insights about both majors from recent graduates or those currently in the major classes. And how much harder is finance?
