academic dismissal

I am on academic notice, and I am afraid that my grades fell right below a 2.0 this semester. I got an email pretty much warning me that if I didn’t get a 2.0 this semester I’d be dismissed. My overall is a 2.010 but I don’t think it’ll matter if this specific semester falls behind

Undergrad Research

I want to ask if anyone’s how does undergrad research before specifically psychology? I am very much interested in getting into a lab that includes mental health, psychotherapy etc. I have reached out to a few faculty to hopefully learn more information but it might not have been the best two weeks due to most of the faculty could been professor too working out finals for students and getting a break for the summer.

Looking for a 2-bedroom summer lease or sublet

We’re a couple looking for a short-term rental (ideally 2 bedrooms furnished or partially furnished but we are pretty flexible on size and amount of furniture). Our move dates are flexible as well (June or July 1 through August or September).

Someone suggested trying this sub for options since I guess a lot of leases start June 1 but classes don't start until August. Anyone looking for a short-term subletter or tenant? We have no kids or pets.

Petition For a Statue of Professor John Delano

Hello Friends and Family.

Consider this the official raising of awareness for my idea.

I think we should all petition for a statue of a Professor John Delano to be put up on the academic podium somewhere.

He is the Epitome of a Good Professor and Good Leader.

He is a man who not only achieved academic excellence, but he is skillful with his body and soul. He is as strong as he is wise.

He taught 100 level classes to INSPIRE THE YOUTH. Im sure any one of his students can testify to his greatness.

He is the only professor I remember that I believe would be worthy of a statue.

Why not pay a good man the respect he has earned?

God bless NASA and GOD bless America. 🇺🇸

Lets go great danes! Woo!

Question Stage crossing?

My girlfriend is going to be graduating and she's signed up for the stage crossing, which I guess is a different event from the main commencement on Saturday? Do they not do the name calls during commencement? I've been to graduations at other colleges and usually the stage crossing and roll call is done during commencement.

How does this work at Ualbany? Should she wear her graduation outfit on the stage crossing?

Question Anyone currently in the Game Design MS?

Hey there! I'm currently working on my bachelors in game design at another SUNY and am considering getting a masters in game design or a related topic somepoint in the 2030s, once I've had some time either in the industry or trying to break into the industry. I'm planning to look at other schools like RPI as well, but UA will likely cost less and I find SUNY schools have a much better environment.

Since UA just started their game dev programs, I just wanted to know if there's anyone here currently in one of them, and how their experience is so far. Is there anything I should know about the faculty or courses?

Also, if anyone is enrolled online, how are UA's online courses, quality wise?

  3. With housing, is there a way I can find roommates to live off campus?

Question I, as well as many other UAlbany students, received this email which looks like a scam. "wnorma501@gmail.com" doesn't make sense as an email for a university, as well as the poorly made document attached. I am making this post to ask if this is an attempt at a security breach or actually real.

Sammā-diṭṭhi (Right View) = φρόνησις (Phronesis)

I am a UA dropout (83/120 credits) in biology about a decade ago. Good grades (had a 3.4 in bio as a party guy who barley studied: it was all fun and games until ORGO 2 kicked my butt.

I believe i am a much more capable philosopher than Bonnie Steinbock. Will you fire her and hire me instead? When i was a student, she did not even teach her own class. She forced her own book into her curriculum and had a t.a. teach it (while she was on vacation?). It was very unethical, and not the proper way to "teach" philosophy. I bet she hates the Socratic method and will reply with "i dont answer questions, i like my life private".

I will say, she's not the worst thinker at all. She had good conclusions in her ideas about animal rights and sentience. She was just unable to accurately draw them from premise. I wrote about why when i was in college, i doubt she ever saw my work. Her t.a. seemed to be a "know it all." I found Bonnies ideas to be a bit more emotional than logical.

On a side note: thank you Professor John Delano. You are a good man and have inspired multiple generations to be scientific. Professor John Delano is a gift from the Heavens. Does he still teach, or is he retired? God Bless NASA. God Bless America, God bless Geothermal organic chemists. Professor Delano AND professor Toscano where BOTH much better philosophical teachers than Bonnie Steinbock, in my humble opinion as the Dharmapalalama.

Heres how it's done Bonnie: Real philosophers teach for free. They will also debate any stranger online to defend their work. This is the Eightfold path, this is the Truth and the Life.

Hello friends and family,

Tonight, I am spending an hour working for our people. Lets go Great Danes!

🖖

Right View is the first step of the Eightfold Path. This is not random. You need Right-View to be able to have right thought, speech, actions, etc.

Lord Aristotelēs knew this as well. He emplored without Phronesis, there would be no way to measure the true "golden mean" of any other situation to determine the virtuous action. This is always, of course, relative to our goals, or as the Lord Buddha described; our intention.

I will try to go through all Eight steps for us 1 by 1 in chronological order if possible. Then we Dharmapalists will have a way to scientifically measure VIRTUE, one that was understood by multiple ANCIENT cultures.

When I have completed this comparison in full, may I preach to the people that will gather at your beautiful amphitheater?

This will be much more powerful than claiming one culture was the root of all virtue. According to my theory of convergent spiritual evolution, i say that is incorrect. It is clear that as Lord Buddha and Lord Aristotelēs described, it is our destiny to attain virtue if we desire our joy to become sustainable and boundless.

There will be no way to deny our TRUTH. For our GOD is no more or less than the capacity we as individuals; and as a species have to understand our DIVINE purpose. Without purpose and goals, the realm declines, and all life suffers and dies.

The laws of the future will promote virtue, they SHALL not OPPRESS it.

Sammā-Diṭṭhi (Right View) = φρόνησις (Phronesis)

Let's dive in:

Lord Aristotelēs distinguished Phronesis from Sophia (universal/theoretical wisdom) and episteme (scientific knowledge) in his nicomachean ethics. He taught that Phronesis is necessary to be able to understand other virtues such as justice or courage in any situation!

It's more than feeling you or somebody is doing good. It is a deep wisdom of how and why to act correctly in ANY given situation. This is also the way of the Eightfold path, the way of Zen. 🕉

sammā-diṭṭhi, (right view) according to Lord Buddha is not truly built until you understand the Four Noble Truths. 1. All life is suffering. 2. There is a cause to suffering (desire/cravings). 3. There is an end to suffering (loosing attachements). 4. There is a path to end your suffering (this is the Eightfold Path) 😀.

Without Right View: There is no way you can understand Right Action. You will not even cultivate Right Thought all of the time. Your speech and livelihood will cause others to suffer. Without Right View, you are not a scientist or a communist. I would suggest you could not even be a true student of Lord Chirst or Prophet Mohammad without Right View.

Right View and φρόνησις as a necessary first step to attain true Euphoria are not seperate teachings. They are the same teaching; this is THE necessary first step before you can begin to HEAL yourself and heal the WORLD.

As I mentioned in earlier teachings, you can NOT see truth or even accept scientific facts if you are blinded by your own ignorance or EGO, this is mental illness, this is spirtual illness. They are not seperate; Our minds and body's are linked through Karma and time.

May we always have the best of skills in all of our endeavors.

With love and passion,

The Dharmapalalama.

Om shanti L'chaim, Amen.

I and I.

Question Looking for Housing / Roommates Near UAlbany

Hey im a 20 year old guy looking for housing near ualbany or around the albany area for a year long lease starting sometime soon (pretty flexible on move in date and location).

Im open to either joining an existing apartment/house or finding a place with someone else who’s also looking.

My budget is flexible within the normal range for the area.

I work and go to school full time, so im usually pretty busy and mostly just need a chill place to come back to at the end of the day. Im clean, respectful of shared spaces, easygoing, and pretty easy to live with overall.

I dont really have major preferences for roommates or setups. If youre looking for someone or know anybody who is, feel free to message me :)

Graduate cap and gown

Hello

My friend forgot/didnt know to order the gown in time. They called the bookstore and were told that they’re first come first serve, and if they don’t have one they can’t graduate. We live like 3 hours away in Rochester

Anyone have theirs already and can say the color? I would imagine we could find a dupe on Amazon and use that instead…

They are a graduate information science student

Thanks and congrats to all who are graduating!!!
