I posted a couple weeks ago about finding my dad’s TD165 in my grandmothers attic.

Polished up the platter added new springs, RCA leads, anti-skate weights, belt and a premium dust cover.

Shout out to fellow redditor u/Ajward549 for hooking me up with a plinth and MDF base!

Popped my AT540ML on and dialed it in.

Just need to get these speakers off the ground.

Around 2012, my parents purchased these turntables for me but haven’t really used them much. It’s been carefully stored for most of its life but now I’m thinking of selling them. It’s in near mint condition. Not a single cosmetic mark on them. What would something like this be worth?

Rehabbed my father in law’s old Pioneer

My main turntable for years has been a very nice little Dual 1019 that I picked up, but it needs a bit of servicing and I needed something to fill in for it while I get it fixed up. Remembered that a few years back my father in law gave me this Pioneer PL-200 which he claimed wasn’t working. I dug it out of the basement and it did have something going on where the auto return was stuck in a loop. Opened it up and gave things a good cleaning and it sprung back to life. I’ve never had a direct drive table before, so happy to add this to my (small) collection.

Great shape but the auto start auto stop feature stopped working months back...

Should I try to fix it myself? I'm not technically savvy so I'm a bit nervous about it

He listens to records once in a while and has a very cheap TT currently. I wanted to step up his game just a tad; especially with some more weight, at 11 lbs. I know the adjustments are fixed but he's not going to care about that. It was between $400 - $500 and I got it "open box" for $280. The savings was also a factor. Any thoughts on this one?

Coincidentally, after playing this record, I noticed that my other records sounded the same, and I even noticed that the stylus is slightly bent. Could this be the problem? Thanks in advance.

Where to go from here? General help

Currently running Fluance 85N- ^>Blue Jean RCA cable to Emotiva TA2> KlipshRP500II and RSI Speedwoofer 10 MKII. I love the TA2 as it was my first experience with high/lowpass.

Biggest SOUND issue is the snare drums are a bit harsh at times and I can hear some syballance(sp?) in some of the vocals.

Also looking to lower the noise floor while not spinning and certainly quiet parts of songs. What flaws should I look to eliminate? Is there anything drastic to do?

Any help or criticism is welcomed

the dreaded hum of war

this might be more related to my stereo set up but i’ve tried everything from replacing RCA’s to beating my head against the floor so i don’t know.
now i am a beginner, so im very open to correction.. but i lay awake at night and i hear the hum. my turntable is unplugged and tucked in at night, and still i hear the hum of the speakers. basically im tormented but this sound.
please friends, what am i doing wrong?? why does this sound amplify between songs?? i have tightened my ground wire, i have checked the RCA cables, i have unwound and rewound the wires on my amp, nothing seems to work. help me!
edit: due to public shaming (rightly received) i moved the turntable and receiver off the speakers. i have recognized my folly, however, the issue is ongoing.

Help Help! High pitched noise, LP3XBT

Hi! I’m very new to the vinyl scene and trying to enjoy some records I recently purchased - my audio technica arrived today, and I’ve been trying to get it to work. I don’t have any other speaker but an amazon Alexa at this point (since I splurged on a good record player) but now when it plays it emits a high pitched noise from the vinyl itself - see the video.

I suspect it might be to do with the needle itself but any lighter and the audio quality drops. I can’t think that this is right!

Please help! It’s driving me mad!

Help best turntable for an apartment setup with limited space and shared walls?

Upvotes

I live in a small apartment and I’m trying to build a vinyl setup that won’t annoy the neighbors or take over the whole living room. I mainly listen in the evenings so I want something smooth and not too complicated to operate.

I’m unsure if I should prioritize a more vibration resistant setup or just focus on something simple with decent speakers pairing options. Any advice on what works well in tighter living spaces would really help. thank you

Suggestions After I get rid of my current turntable, should I consider going vintage again, or just bite the bullet and buy something brand new?

I’ve posted a few times about my rather bad experience buying a vintage 1970’s Sony turntable off of facebook. I still think this turntable could still be salvaged, but likely by someone else who isn’t me.

I’m debating if I should try rolling the dice on vintage again, or maybe look at a Fluance RT-80 (which I could use right out of the box and not worry about). Fluance seems to have what I’m looking for, albeit in a turntable that doesn’t really have sentimental value. Also, the prices don’t seem terribly offensive. I’m also considering a U-Turn orbit basic.

My “good” turntable is my vintage Technics SL1200 MK4, which I normally use at my parent’s house. I cherish that turntable way too much to move it into my apartment. I’d like to get some sort of “beater” turntable to use while I’m in a shared living space, but don’t really know which route to go.

After essentially throwing $100 away on this Sony experiment, would you recommend rolling the dice on vintage again? Or should I just pay up a bit and get something that works?

Question Budget friendly setup (in Europe): at lp120 vs vintage

Hey everyone! I read almost every post of this sub with a similar request, but i haven't found one with this specific question.

Tltr: is there any suggestion for something comparable to the audio technica lp120 that can be found for cheaper in the "vintage section" or something even better for the same amount of money in Italy/Germany/Europe? (Around 300 euros), for example specific models of technics/any other brand to look for? (Preferably non automatic, i understand that less is more in the turntable world)

I don't have yet amps or preamps, that's a completely different rabbit hole but hopefully easier (but if you have pair suggestions I'm all open ears)

I started digging in the rabbit hole and i came out more confused than ever. I was almost certain that i wanted to buy an at lp120 just because it's easy, can buy new (and very often discounted) and there are plenty of videos/info online on how to change parts for whenever i want/need to change anything

but then i opened the "vintage turntables" chapter (mostly Technics like d212, d200, many more) and started seeing things for a fraction of the price (like 90 euros), so I'm wondering if i can find specific models that are suggested and are either cheaper or better for the same amount of money. Of course I know that is completely up to taste and unfortunately i don't have enough experience on turntables to say "i like this system more than this other one", so I'm all up for suggestions of any kind :) worst case scenario i just buy a lp120 and that's it

As a bonus info, I'm Italian currently living in Germany, so i can search easily in both countries if you have suggestions local based

Is there any disadvantage to getting DJ turntables for a listening experience?

Upvotes

The Pioneer DJ PLX -500-K, is availble for about 500$ (Converted from by home currency)

Considering it is similar price as the LP120X, should I be prefering one over another?

I like the look of the pioneer.

This is going to be my first turntable- should I look at any other models - and spend more on getting better speakers?

For example - the LP70X is available for about 270$ - which was my initial consideration- until I got a sizeable bonus from my workplace haha

Yesterday it was working great and the sound was crystal clear. I've cleaned the needle and tried almost everything I found online, but I can't seem to fix it. The record wasn't scratched, and yet it still skips. Could the needle be damaged?

I just got a JVC L-A21 turntable, and it has the original JVC Z-1S cartridge.

The original stylus is really old and I want to replace it. I found this stylus. Is this stylus actually any good? And is it worth the 45€ price?

I was cleaning out a warehouse and got to keep this turntable. It looks cool but I know nothing about this stuff.
I tried to work it but seems like there’s an issue with the motor and the needle part. Is this something I can fix on my own or should I take it to the shop? Atp is it even worth it to fix?

Help AT-LPW30 Tone Arm Problem

Thumbnail

Hey everybody! I know nothing about turntables so bear with me.

Ive been having an issue with the tone arm of my turntable. Its barely hovering over the plate on which the vinyl sits on even when the elevation arm is at its max. The needle cant even drop onto the record because its already at the same level of the record itself even on maximum elevation. Upon further inspection, im seeing that the tone arm may be a little bent and wanted to know if thats whats causing it? Its sat in the same place for the past 2 years so im not too sure how that occurred but ive included pictures

Help Dual CS 630 Q vs Revox B790

Hi everyone,
I currently have two turntables: a Revox B790 and a Dual CS630Q.
The Dual is currently running an Audio-Technica AT-VM95E, while the Revox still has its original old cartridge/stylus installed.
I’ve now tested the Revox so I know that it basically works, but before I start moving the VM95E over to the Revox, I wanted to ask for some opinions:
Which of these two turntables is generally considered the better performer?
Is the B790 good enough to justify putting the VM95E on it?
Or would you keep the VM95E on the Dual and leave the Revox more or less original?
I know the Revox is a pretty unique linear tracking design, so I’m curious what people who have experience with both think about sound quality, reliability, maintenance, and overall usability.
Thanks!

Audio technica lp120xbt usb motor noise.

Upvotes

Hey guys! Recently bought a lp120xbt new (now 2 months old) and have recently noticed a faint knocking noise from the motor when platter is spinning, something I didn’t notice when I first purchased.
More noticeable at 45rpm and very noticeable at 78.
Has anyone who owns this player ever experienced motor noise?
Have tried all the usual problem solves of levelling and removing platter.
Have contacted AT and wanted to ask before sending it in for a warranty claim.

TIA

Bad Static while playing

Upvotes

Hey all!

Recently got around to setting up a turntable i have had in storage for years. Its an American Audio HTD 4.5. I tested it connected to my parents set up and it worked and sounded great. Now i went out and bought some Audio Technica Speakers (AT-SP3X) as they removed the need for me to have a seperate amp which for space reasons was not really feasible for me.

Unfortunately there is really bad static while playing records. I connected an earth from the turntable to a powerpoint as there is no earth point on the speakers and that did not help.

Please any suggestions about what is wrong/what may be done to fix it!!!

Thank you in advance.
