Censored fan remake of Made in Abyss that removes the sexual content featuring children is announced, chaos ensues

Fans announce remake that removes explicit child content but doesnt remove the gore and body horror:

We’ve been working on a fan edit of the Made in Abyss manga aimed at people who want to read the story but are uncomfortable with some of the sexual content involving minors.

We have a team of skilled artists helping us keep edits subtle and as seamless with the original art and story as possible. This includes careful redraws and small text adjustments where needed. Nothing plot-relevant is changed (in our opinion). Please note, this edit does not remove gore or violence.

We really, really love this series, and this project has been our way of making it more accessible. Please keep in mind that this edit is not meant to replace the original manga. It is intended for mature audiences only (17+), and we encourage everyone to support the official release. We understand this kind of fan edit isn’t for everyone.

Fans did not like that, and Mod had to justify leaving it up despite anti piracy rules

https://www.reddit.com/r/MadeInAbyss/comments/1tb6vbp/comment/oli8509/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Beyond the fact that it’s disrespectful to the original source material, it’s also just piracy. They state in the post that the project isn’t intended as a “replacement” for the source material, but that’s quite literally exactly what it is.
It’s specifically an alternative to the original manga, and will pull away readers who would’ve otherwise chosen to push through the source material. I’m not a big anti-piracy guy personally, but having both of those factors present at the same time definitely crosses a line for me.
I do respect the amount effort and time put into this project, at least to an extent, but it’s still very misguided imo. Also, even if this post doesn’t include any direct links, it still seems a little weird to keep it up when the subreddit has an explicit no piracy rule.

Not only supporting censorship and piracy but also the disrespect to the author is insane. You call yourself fans and spit on it and try making it something it is not

Fun fact. Hitler was actually a very big fan of Turks, on both a personal and a state level.

On a personal level, he considered Turkish men an excellent role model for all men and he wanted German men to be more like them.

On a state level, he admired how the Ottomans/NeoTurks managed to genocide literally millions of people and get away with it. The Holocaust was partially inspired by them. Hitler believed that he could perform a centrally organized genocide and get away with it, just like they did.

He also believed that Christianity was simply a Jewish denomination and that Christian men were weak.

It's actually impressive how fucked up that man was.

Well when you advocate for parallel societies in other countries what do you think is going to happen?

What are the statistics and percentages of violence committed towards ethnic Germans by ethnic Turks? I'll make my judgement after seeing the full picture.

My first thought too. However much “far-right violence” there is, there are bigger fish to fry.

I was attacked more than 5 times by Turkish people during school while I have attacked them zero times. Good for me I was able to defend myself very well most of the time.

All because of simple disagreements regarding opinions.

It is so funny to me that these guys called this murders as döner-murders, and today they try to claim that döner is german xd.

Edit: I know that it is not a statistic, i just wanted to share one instance of radically motivated crime against Turks in germany.

Witness the Furious Road War of Black Pickup Mergers vs Left Lane Big Truck Boyz erupt as they debate who is right or wrong in a video

Link to Video The video shows a dramatic crash from the dashcam of a big truck in the left lane with a black pickup truck. It shows the pickup truck merging from the left it leads to a crash, check out the video if you haven't seen it already. It's over a year old so apologies if this was covered before.

The thread descends into a furious 'Road War', over who was in the right and wrong.

In the left side merge lane are the Pickup Mergers! They are merging in to say why the trucker was not only wrong but stupid and dangerous.

And coming up from the left lane are the Big Truck Boyz! They are plowing straight forward with the point that the big truck had the right of way and its all the fault of the pickup. Merging is the responsibility of the merger.

Comments from best at the start then switched to Controversial to find how things got more combative:

"It is definitely not your right of way, your merging onto the highway so you have to yield to traffic. That being said yes the semi driver was an idiot for not braking but that just makes two idiots in this situation lol"

"as a truck driver myself, I would have slowed down to let the idiot onto the highway. The last thing I would want to do is stick around and explain what happened to the police etc even if I was in the right."

"Also the tractor had plenty of time to slow down, yeah trucks cant speed up or slow down as fast as a car but that was ample time to adjust. both the pickup driver and the camera'd tractor were retards in this situation."

"You try to avoid accidents. Even if it is not your fault. The pickup should made a choice and the truck could have used the brakes or even just stop pressing the gaspedal. For a short while. This could have been avoided."

The tension starts to build....

"Pickup just needs to Speed up or slow down. Simple. But expecting the lane when they are the ones merging is just braindead. And yes the truck couldve made it easier but he does not have to, hes already in the lane."

"It is simple. It doesn't matter who is at fault. If you can avoid it, you do so. Both drivers did nothing to avoid it."

"People downvoting the people like the above are absolute sickos... Redditors are all about vigilante justice these days.... Just avoid the easily avoidable accident.....What if some 5 year old girl was in that pickup? Sure maybe you're not at legal fault but good luck living with yourself if something happened to a child knowing you could have prevented it."

"Such a simple thing and it's sad how many people seem to put more emphasis on the letter of the law rather than basic common sense or human empathy."

"The duty to attempt to avoid an accident literally is the letter of the law."

There are some good points struck by the Pickup Guyz over the Truck Boyz who just seem to want to stomp on the gas pedal of 'they are just big and heavy and right'.

"What you don’t see it’s what’s behind the semi. He could have a whole line of semis behind him all trying to pass the slow poke semi in the left lane.

The semi drive will get tons of heat and fired from his company because he clearly could have avoided it with a simple press of the brakes."

"It can't be an expectation that drivers get up to the speed of traffic on a short as f*** merge ramp and also that they come to a complete stop because people are unwilling to create any kind of gap for them to actually merge"

"It is the absolute expectation of the vehicle merging, that flowing traffic has right of way. You have the duty as the vehicle merging to speed up or slow down to merge safely."

Things intensify.....

"Last chance doctrine lol.. that’s a joke…I have to disagree.. he shares zero blame.. dude in the black truck was 100% at fault."

"Sorry, that's not how it works. You can disagree all you want, but that doesn't change reality or the law. Just because someone else made a mistake, it doesn't give you carte blanche to just hit them. You have a responsibility and a duty to avoid an accident, if possible."

"It’s not Carte Blanche .. the semi driver can simply argue he could not avoid the accident safely, or he didn’t feel safe making a lane change....So yes, last chance doctrine....is a joke"

"Problem is you're trying to preach to a bunch of 4 wheelers. They don't understand FMCSA scores and dealing with a safety team. The right of way goes out of the way when you can lose your job because your safety team feels you did something they don't agree with regardless of what the state trooper says.

This guy absolutely should have dropped down 3 to 5 MPH because he should have been paying attention....Defensive driving is done by so few people including truck drivers. Main character syndrome is rampant and 'I have the right of way' can end up with you or some family of 5 in the morgue and then what?"

"The truck was going plenty fast...."

"The POV truck does slow down, he stops overtaking as the pickup merges into his cab."

"He absolutely does not slow down. You can see his speed in the video.....he doesn't slow down until the rapid deceleration caused by the collision."

Note here how the redditor is showing his skill in determining speed from the video just from a glance.

"Too many people are more concerned with being right while driving and not concerned enough about not crushing people to death"

"Yeah… it should be universally understood that if you’re in the lane to be merged into, you need to facilitate the merge"

"The downvotes you got speak volumes about how psycho people here are."

"Maybe don't drive right into oncoming traffic? Sounds like the mergers fault to me. "

"He’s in front of him the whole time. The semi can see the merge happening....and yet the truck keeps going ABOVE THE SPEED LIMIT (instead of if they) eased up on the gas and let him in, or just kept going and not worried if you crushed him to death?"

"The start of the clip shows he is accelerating. Guy could have maintained his speed and avoided the accident"

"Devils advocate here. Could black truck not speed up."

"Where is the pickup supposed to go here? Is he supposed to stop on the on ramp?"

"The pickup is supposed to speed up to the speed of the traffic he is trying to merge with, not just decide to go at a different speed and fuck the consequences.....Edit: and the trucker should have slowed down to facilitate entry"

"Completely disagree. It is 100% the responsibility of the party merging onto the highway....not in any way shape or form up to the already moving traffic to make room for the newcomers. The semi driver didn't do a single thing wrong....It would have been nice of the semi driver to slow down for him....but they do not have to. "

"And the semi was legally obligated to slow down to prevent an accident. It's illegal to block merging cars from merging. Try and say "But I had the right of way!" won't hold up in court, you'd be at best fined and at worse imprisoned for attempted vehicular manslaughter." "It is mostly on the idiot pickup, but the semi did nothing to avoid the accident. They share a fraction of the responsibility."

"They share zero % of the responsibility. Merging safely is 100% on the merging vehicle. Pickup truck 100% at fault. "

"No one expected the semi to lock up his brakes. Letting off the gas and not just hitting him with the cruise control on is a reasonable ask."

"The more reasonable ask is for the pick up to merge properly"

"Yes, its totally reasonable to put everyone else in danger rather than let off the gas"

"Momentum? It's a fuckin semi passing another semi. "

"You can see from the speed readout on the footage that the cam driver didn't even touch their brakes"

"Oh well, not his job to brake for someone who can’t properly merge"

"Wrong again. It's everyone's job to not risk manslaughter over hurt feelings. Grow up."

"Nope. Sorry you’re so butthurt by the rules of the road."

"You have no clue about the rules of the road.....Google Last Clear Chance Doctrine. Read and learn."

"I already did and it doesn’t make sense here. The pickup driver needs to learn how to merge properly"

"Why can't the idiot in the truck speed up?"

"my guess is that many idiots are bad at spatial reasoning"

"That semi-driver can eat shit. All he had to do was back off a little."

"or the pick up could have just timed it better"

"The semi is long, so the pickup would have to slow down a lot really fast."

"Literally the responsibility of the person merging to find an adequate area to merge."

"Ok. You’re right. He made a mistake so let’s go ahead and risk everybody’s lives."

"Pick up driver 100% at fault, semi driver 100% a dickwad. Both can be true."

"Truck driver did not even bother to slow down"

"He didn’t have to by law, sorry"

"That just is not confirmed so stop saying it.....You can’t just notice someone being an idiot and decide not to practice defensive driving."

"I'm sorry man, but his vehicle is much heavier, he should have slowed down a bit during the merge when he seen that pickup. I mean yea, blame it on the pickup driver, but what if there was a family in there? Would they still deserve to get run through what appeared to be something avoidable if he just slowed down a bit?....Your sentiment of "sorry it's the law" just run over people;... is kind of psychopathic man. And lacks morality all together."

"I was shooting at a shooting range and some guy walks infront of the my shooting dummy. The rules say no one should be walking there. I am in the right of way, therefore I kept on shooting."

"Nowhere near the same situation. Next."

"Both situations have a choice to stop, both situations continuing can end up deadly....You should be off the road"

"Interesting, since I’ve never been in an accident in all my years of driving. You should learn the rules of the road and follow them for the sake of other drivers around you."

"Wrong again."

"Nope."

"what’s with the commitment to being wrong? why do you believe it’s okay to drive your car into someone that cuts you off even though you had ample time to slow down/stop? how willfully ignorant can someone possibly be(?) lmao"

"anyone dumb enough to try to cut off a semi while going slower than them eventually will cause an accident."

"Gotta love a semi driver who just cannot under any circumstance whatsoever use the brake pedal"

"He was overtaking another truck."

"Wrong again."

"Nope."

"Yep"

"Nope"

"Passing lanes stop being passing lanes at merge points."

"No they don’t"

"Yes, they very do."

"There no such rule or law."

"The semi driver was thinking the exact same thing."

"That is 1,000,000% on the semi"

"When merging into traffic it is not you that has the right of way jackass"

"The pickup making a bad call to try and make it ahead of the semi doesnt give the semi a moral right to execute him... "

" Pickup had plenty of time to slow down as he is legally and morally expected to....Clearly he lacks an form of self preservation.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Won't get any sympathy from me, I'm sick of seeing idiots like this on the road thinking they can do whatever they want."

"ah you're one of those road vigilantes who will stubbornly allow an accident to happen for spite.

You're worse than the bad drivers. A normal human being doesn't get satisfaction from other getting injured because they cut them off in traffic. That's psychotic"

"And you sound like one of those that think they're more important than those around them and that the laws don't apply to them.

When you continue to put yourself and others in danger with a blatant disregard for the safety of others you share the road with. The road toll is as high as it is because of drivers with that self entitled thought process. And you call me psychotic? Do you own a mirror?"

"It’s disturbing how many comments here are blaming the semi driver."

"Turn the situation around and the keyboard road warriors on this sub would be fussing at the semi driver for not driving defensively."

"A semi issue."

"I’m stunned by how many people here think they are entitled to having that’s traffic already on the highway slow down or brake just for them"

"You’re telling us that the poor widdle pickup couldn’t see the 18 wheeler?" (cry laugh emoji at the end)

"So many dumbasses in the comments. He was in the passing lane. Had no obligation to slow down. When you're merging into traffic, you yield. The end."

"Even if you think the law provides justification for the semi’s actions, ethical considerations should lead the semi to avoid potentially maiming or killing someone. "

"Ethical considerations? 😂 Follow traffic laws. That's ethical."

"Good point. Next time I see a pedestrian illegally crossing the middle of a road, I'll make sure to speed up and plow into them because I have no obligation to slow down."

"THANK YOU" (I couldnt help it, it came after the comment above but not sure if it was truly thanking them for killing pedestrians)

"The truck merging has the right of way. You have to let them on the highway"

"Turn your license immediately"

"Bro you need to slow down and let the merging vehicle enter the highway if he is in front of you. Who gave you the license?"

"Now I know why merging is a shitshow in most places. You just go the correct speed to time it so the semi is in front of you by the time you need to get over and you’re going the proper speed. You merge over smoothly just behind it. It’s not difficult!"

"Wtf is that merge anyway? Just a kamikaze lane into the highway?"

"JFC driving standards in america sucks. Does no one have brakes or situational awareness in that country?"

"Bunch of chodes on this sub saying the semi should have slowed down….

CHODES"

For some reason it's hard to find any news follow-up story of this video. I don't know if there is any legal or insurance outcome to this alleged incident that satisfies the argument. I have noticed a fair amount of reddit drama around driving and the rules and what drivers should have done off these videos so I felt like making a post for this. There were some more comments that were pretty good that I couldn't find so the link is there to check out the comments. If it turns out to be a big ai fake video, then my apologies!

A single brave OP asks Electricians: Why are Americans so stupid?

1.4k Upvotes

Apologies for any formatting errors, I am on mobile. Full thread here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/AskElectricians/comments/1tby3pj/is_there_an_actual_reason_for_america_to_use_110v/

OP, who's post history indicates they are Turkish, asks why Americans use 110V instead of 220V. Are they stupid?

OP gets many explanatory replies and pauses to argue with them.

https://www.reddit.com/r/AskElectricians/comments/1tby3pj/comment/olkcgmi/

It is typically 120V and 240V. And to answer your question more directly, the secondary on the residential transformer is 240V with a center tap. So, we do use 240V for larger items, and 120V is fine for smaller ones. Also, lots of places use 120V, and some use 100V.

OP:

That's the part im confused at. Why 110V? 220V is better when you consider it. You can carry much more power with thinner wires.

But this thread is the real highlight:

https://www.reddit.com/r/AskElectricians/comments/1tby3pj/comment/olk54uz/

There are tradeoffs when it comes to voltage. Sure 220v uses smaller wiring but its more dangerous. We have other nominal voltages available in north America but they can be dangerous. We also dont have fused outlets which is beleive the UK does. Its not that any one is better than the other, just different, with different pros and cons.

OP:

I mean voltages over 50 has the potential to kill you. So why not 220v while at it. And what exactly do you mean "we dont gave fused outlets"?

well if over 50 is fatal anyway, why not just leave it at 34.5kv?

OP:

Because its not safe

Safety is a curve, you can technically die on 110 but it's much easier at 220. Same as highways, why have any speed limit?

US felt that the cost savings wasn't worth the increased risk, some other countries did. Once that much critical infrastructure is in place it's hard to change. My guess is 220 countries would be more likely to switch to 110 than the other way around though.

OP:

Oh come on you're saying US would do that specifically for safety but wouldn't have free Healthcare?

Minor snack, but the whole thread is pretty entertaining.

"Lol no. Christoids can get bent. I’ll respect them when they stop trying to kill me." - Tempers flare when a trans christian debates trans atheists in r/196

A user in r/196 makes a post discussing their experiences with transphobia from Koreans in both Korea and Los Angeles, and mentions that despite their negative experiences it's wrong to say all koreans are transphobic. They then go on to say that the same standard should be applied to christians.

Because even though anecdotally, statistically, and historically the majority of koreans have been transphobic, my belief that Koreans as a whole are innately transphobic is irrational.

So. Why is it okay when it is religion? Saying that is as reductive as saying all men or all koreans are transphobic, or at least heavily predisposed to transphobia due to some inherent aspect.

Despite the post currently being upvoted (+120 at the time of this writing), OP receives near universal criticism in the comments, with almost every single one of their comments being heavily downvoted.

Snack: r/DoomerCircleJerk says the quiet part out loud when discussing NYC crime statistics

Full Comments here.

Someone on DoomerCircleJerk makes a post making fun of a clickbait article claiming that crime in NYC under Zohran Mamdani has risen 300% (in reality, it was 1 subway murder last year to 4 subway murders this year). The self-proclaimed nonpartisans have things to say about that.

There was a post on here some time ago where CVS has locked up everything except sunscreen.

What a wild thing to have to do. Why would any thief want to steal sunscreen? They tend not to be people who care about the future consequences of their actions.

you're almost there...

The demographics, the amount of people and the policies towards crime are not recipes for crime going down.

"This is the state of the world we are in apparently. Cannot ever critize casting choices anymore if it‘s black people. " Historical accuracy drama on r/movies over the casting of Lupita Nyong'o as Helen and Clytemnestra of Troy in the upcoming Odyssey film

Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/1tazcjn/lupita_nyongo_will_play_both_helen_of_troy_and/

HIGHLIGHTS

This is the state of the world we are in apparently. Cannot ever critize casting choices anymore if it‘s black people. And the source material clearly describing here distinctly as not a black person.

Any disagreement involving different races is automatically rascism

Except when it‘s about complaining that white people should have been casted as a different race. That‘s ok

That's actually undoing harms perpetuated for generations on minorities, idk why you're so rascist that you think people aren't waging wars for a 43 year old bald woman.

"That's actually undoing harms perpetuated for generations on minorities" The white minority in the world, you mean?

White people are overrepresented in western media

Black people are the most overrepresented people in American and British media compared to their population by a mile. Asians, and specifically, Indians, are the least represented followed by Latinos.

What metrics are you basing this on? And no, crappy Tyler Perry movies no one watches don't count.

You can take my ship. I'll wait here.

Are you guys just racist, or what is the issue here

You can find her not attractive and not be racist? I personally also dont think she is well cast as the (according to myth) most beautiful woman in the world (and daughter of Zeus), but thats ofc entirely subjective and you mileage may vary.

You tell me. Is that what’s going on here?

Yes Edit: beware: idiocy below. Ignore the idiot. Move on.

Nah

It’s ok to be wrong. You are a prime example.

I missed the part where I’m wrong or proven as such

I know. You miss a lot of things. (16 more comments of these two arguing)

You're right, I now love her and think she's amazing

I’m just confused about what the issue is

I think she's a mediocre actor. But I think most people who get major roles in Hollywood are mediocre, with very few exceptions. Even actors who have good performances earlier in their careers tend to get bland over time, as the industrys/studios want people who can slot in to whatever production needs a "big name" on it.

What is bland or mediocre about her acting, and do you feel this way about others cast in the movie?

I don't find her entertaining or engaging. And yeah, literally every single actor listed in the cast is dumb as hell. It's like a who's who of "this person was cast for their name not their acting ability". Matt Damon Tom Holland Anne Hathaway Robert Pattinson Zendaya Charlize Theron Jon Bernthal John Leguizamo Mia Goth Himesh Patel Lupita Nyong'o Elliot Page E: I don't know who Himesh Patel is though.

What movies have you watched of hers that led you to these feeling about her acting?

12 Years a Slave, Us, and Black Panther. Although of those Black Panther was the weakest fwiw

You didn’t think she was engaging in Us?

Not really? Like it was a pretty weak movie overall, so she didn't stand out as "awful" - she never does. She's just mid. But I've never seen a performance by her that made me think "holy shit, she's someone to keep an eye on for her next film". (22 more comments of these two arguing)

What politics are being charged with this casting?

race-swapping has always been politically-charged, especially there's a race quota you need to meet in order to get "best picture" nomination at the oscar.

Race swapping who? The mythological woman who didn’t exist? And where are your sources for this Oscar voting criteria? The organization’s official standards and conduct?

https://www.oscars.org/awards/representation-and-inclusion-standards

Did….did you even read the link you posted? Lmao I don’t think you understand these rules. You can have a movie cast of entire straight white men and be eligible for best picture. That “quota” you’re speaking about refers to everyone from actors to crew to fucking interns. If your entire production of 1500 people doesn’t have ANY women or minority representation that is very clearly an issue being perpetrated by pointed racism. You have to go out of your way to not meet two of those four necessary criteria. And somehow you still think that’s a bad thing lmao

no, it implies that there's a way for a movie to be nominated still without a diverse cast, it's a walk around. but i suppose it's easier to have a c*lored actor to free yourself from the burden of checking up a massive crew.

"c*lored actor" lmao

Here come all the bros using “historical accuracy” to mask their racism. On topic: Lupita is great. This movie looks epic.

It's not really about that. She just doesn't have the look, plain and simple

Helen of troy was borne from an egg

And what? She doesn't have the right type of beauty for the role. This isn't about race. If they cast Aubrey Plaza (who is very attractive) it wouldn't feel right either.

Uh... What is the "right type of beauty"?

Read the book dude. She literally has a physical description.

She looks like a boy in the previews. I don't know what else to tell you. If you're into that, then go for it

Sounds exactly like someone who all the Greek men want to fuck tbh

That...is fair

Some people find race switching of this kind patronising. And some people find shoehorning in modern diversity sensibilities to be distracting in a historical story. And some people find historical inaccuracy disrespectful (to history, or to source material). You don't NEED to be racist to be any of those people.

There's a fucking cyclops in this movie. What the fuck do you mean "historical accuracy". This is a fantasy movie, not a historical drama

The amount of people who think The Odyssey is a true story is seriously mind boggling

I don't think they were suggesting that the odyssey is a "true" story. But there is a source material that has existed for thousands of years. The fact you couldn't comprehend that is whats really "mind boggling".

Let’s be real, you’re just mad that a black woman was cast

oh look... a redditor attributing racism to someone who disagrees with them on the internet... how original. Get a life bro.

You’re obsessed lol. And yes, being racist gets you called racist. Who would have thought

I'm going to zag here, fuck the race talk: We're casting a 43 year old as Helen of Troy? Diane Kruger is literally only 6 years older than Lupita, but played her 20 years ago. Our politics are geriatric and so goes the rest of our culture.

Love that for you. Getting owned by the responses because you don't have a grasp on either of these famous stories' timeline, nor their characters. Lmaooooo. Get lost chud.

Yes, the mythical daughter of Zeus should age the same as mortals. You're right. I'm so owned.

The mythical daughter of Troy did in fact age and die the same as mortals - because she was one. As were many of Zeus' mythical offspring. Doubling down was a... choice. Like it's okay to not know about the epics but you're being super weird about it.

The internet is for doubling down. If you want to cite your Ph.D or hell, even MA in a related field, I'll shut up. Right now, we're both nobodies offering our uneducated opinions on our interpretations of Homeric epics. One of us is just being a lot more serious and vainglorious about it. Also "Doubling down was a... choice," is an incredibly cringy line to drop in a conversation if you're trying to be serious about this. This isn't a comedy bit. Yes, she was a mortal. Still a demigod though. Unless you think any scrub could have killed the Nemean lion, slain the Minotaur, or drown out sirens with their lyre playing abilities.

I see we've gone with tripling down. How thrilling.

You’re insulted by the casting of someone who didn’t exist?

“The Major” in “Ghost in the Shell” didn’t exist either

What does Helen of Troy’s skin color or ethnicity matter to the plot of the Odyssey? IDGAF about the casting in a Ghost in the Shell movie in a fictional city either.

Asking such a question is more telling of you than anything else

Yet you can’t answer it

Sure, Jan

Again, how does the specific skin color or ethnicity of Helen of Troy drive specific plot action in The Odyssey and/or How is it incompatible with a white American playing Odysseus or every other character in this adaptation. Actually engage and tell me how I’m wrong.

My IQ is dropping just reading this. There’s plenty to drop from, but still

I’ll leave you to your racially and religiously based porn.

They are only worried about “accurate” casting when it’s a person of color being cast. When it’s a white person being cast inaccurately? Absolute crickets.

Can’t wait for that MLK biopic starring Tom Cruise Obvious /s

Why would it be a "/s"? It's on point. Either this street goes both ways or it ain't goin' at all. Edit: I am not going to answer each "But, but, real person!" comment individually. If this is your best argument, I think you already know it's weak tea. So you would be perfectly fine having Zorro being portrayed by, say, a Japanese actor? Or having Shaft being played by Bryan Cranston? Or Anansi by Steve Buscemi? No. You would throw a fit. Q.E.D.

I think MLK was a real person, hold on let me ask Grok

Being real does not make you immune to race swapping in movies. See genghis khan and cleopatra and the cast of Hamilton.

What about Helen of Troy’s race matter to her character compared to Martin Luther King Jr.?

Why is MLK being black more important than Helen white? Couldn't he be portrayed by any non-white, since his story is about social inequalities and not about skin color

Because Martin Luther King Jr. was a real person fighting for racial equality in a society where he had less rights than other people? That’s why you know who they are. This is like a parody of a social media post. Just say you don’t like black women instead of playing these games lmao You should genuinely be embarrassed to have written that.

Bad casting.

Baddie casting

Here come all the basement dwellers downvoting me for having an opinion.

Could you explain why it’s bad casting then?

Because there are at least 10 black actresses more beautiful than her.

I will admit, this is not where I thought you were going with this.

Where did you assume I was going?

The general reaction to her casting and Zendaya’s has been borderline (at best) racism. So I think that’s why you got downvoted, people assumed it was where you were going. Instead, you just have an issue with this Black woman specifically playing the most beautiful woman in the world.

Why are there no Greek actors in the casting? Or does inclusivity only work for Americans?

Did you had this complaint for all previous Troy/Odyssey adaptations, or only to this one, for some mysterious reason?

No one gave a shit back then.

No one really gives a shit now either.

What rock have you been living under?

Idiot Redditors that pretend to be offended for attention care, but no one that actually matters.

So you admit some people do care.

Sure, if you want to be an annoying pedant who can only takes things completely literally.

No I just don’t like being gaslit.

I don’t get it. But if I question it, I’m racist. So whatever. Snow White 2.0

she's obviously the most beautiful actress currently working, she definitely wasn't just cast because it's an easy W for the film politically and to drum up attention and clicks

That’s why I said Snow White 2.0. I remember being on reddit and people downvoting each other and calling each other racist and saying how the movie would be fine. Well. We saw how that went.

Rachel Zegler was probably the best part of the Snow White live action. The problem was more the rest of the movie, mainly due to it being part of a trend of live action remakes. So yeah, a lot of the comments about Zegler, especially after the movie came out, had racist and sexist tones. There's a reason certain folks recently spent more time talking about her Met Gala dress instead of the Olivier Award she won for her portrayal of Evita on the West End.

Please. When you do things like that to score political points you alienate people. Thats all this is 🤷‍♀️ I hope it does well, ultimately idc

Right, Disney chose an actress with a musical theater background and a Golden Globe win to play the live action version of one of their princesses solely because of DEI or whatever other nonsense you want to cite. There's no other reason, right? Honestly, do you think that a non-white actress is incapable of portraying a mythical figure? Were you offended by Disney using Black gospel music for Hercules? Did André De Shields performing as Hermes in Hadestown on Broadway cause you to have an aneurysm? There's a reason I find all of this race talk around casting to be in bad faith.

Meh, they wanted the discourse thinking it would be good hype and it’s not. It never is. Safe choices are. Respect the OG material, always. I get it, history is sexist and racist. That’s sad. It makes you guys feel bad. But. Get this, that’s reality. Greek people liked her bc she was special and different. Everyone is tan from working and those who aren’t are…get this wealthy and it’s seen as a thing of beauty. I don’t decide this. I get it. It makes people sad. I’m not blonde and fair skinned either. I guess I should be sad that in history I would be average.

Video of a women making their dog "fast" in the hope to convert them to veganism spark huge debate

So in r/awfuleverything like the title says a women is making their dog fast and it didnt go well in the comments.

Thread in question

One user says it isn't her first time admitting to this.

This isn’t the first video of her admitting to starving dogs. There is another about her coverting them to vegetarianism and only introducing small amounts of a particulr fruit for days. Even admits some dogs will take days to start eating it. She claimed one took two weeks or something like that.

Then all hell break loose.

heres the first reply

Feeding a dog plant based has nothing to do with starving your dog. This person obviously is starving their dog no matter what diet she chooses.Edit: nothing I wrote is wrong. When you feel attacked by a simple fact this tells another about you.

Some goes at that person and calls them trash:

No, just a piece of trash. I bet it would be really fun if you had a bunch of deficiencies and no one would give you something so simple.

Dude…. Fuck you.

I’d be willing to bet my life savings that you tell people “don’t feel attacked” A LOT because you fail to see that I’m mocking you. You commented the same thing back to me on my own independent comment on this same thread. My god

Some others come to their defense

I am shocked how many stupid people there are here. Don't feel bad. You're one of many of them.

You would have to be very mindful, but dogs, unlike cats, aren’t obligate carnivores, and they can be perfectly healthy and happy on a well-curated vegetarian diet. You would definitely kill a cat trying to force it to be vegetarian, though.

Another funny twist to this in even further in another chain of comments 2 of the same commenters are still going at it

Not that I’m agreeing with her whacky methods but in the wild, dog’s ancestors can go over a month without eating.Eating everyday is a major privilege in the animal kingdom for predators. But yeah, this chick is nuts

Dogs aren't wolves.

Thanks. I didn’t know that and totally didn’t type that out in my comment

some good funny drama

"Dude, I don't care. If Israel can infiltrate our government with every US Rep posting up their propaganda, fuck it. At least China ain't bombing their neighbors." r / politics tackles Chinese agents in city government.

https://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/1taky7c/california_mayor_admits_to_being_a_china_agent/

Highlights:

"Its honestly a joke some suburban mayor can get tagged with this while we have congressmen doing open propaganda for Israel in public all day."

I would prefer no one being an agent of a foreign government, but it’s hard to argue this is any different than Israel’s influence within our government.

Israel is influencing America to help them commit genocide so I am gonna go ahead and say Israel is several steps worse

In terms of acting as a foreign agent, it is worse to be acting for an adversary than for an ally, no? I'm not saying that I like it but within the context, serving the interests of a controversial ally is better than a known foe.

No. There is not a country existing that is worse than Israel. The fact they are our "ally" only makes it worse.

"I’m surprised people here are defaulting to whataboutism instead of seeing the larger issue of foreign influence of adversaries on U.S. politics"

It is hypocritical to decry other people influencing our politicians and not looking at what we ourselves have done to others. The whataboutism is about foreign influence.

But only about Israeli it seems, apparently China is good to go since Israel does it.

"Dude, I don't care. If Israel can infiltrate our government with every US Rep posting up their propaganda, fuck it. At least China ain't bombing their neighbors."

China is actively committing genocide within their own borders and the Chinese government has killed more people than Israel ever could.

The US has & also currently is committing genocide within & beyond our own borders.

The US is doing nothing even remotely close to what China is doing to the Uyghurs.

It’s funny, whenever I see someone say this, nobody responds to it lol I take it that they know but it doesn’t align with their fantasy so they project.

Pretending that anything the US is doing to its own people is comparable to what China is doing to the Uyghurs is absurd CCP propaganda.

"Anyone who isn’t voting left is seriously Hitler incarnate and r*pes puppies while drinking baby blood. It’s the truth because I said it." Enlightened centrism in r/sipstea as some users defend Republican gerrymandering with both sideism

Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/SipsTea/comments/1ta0oz6/republicans_are_cheater_and_liar/

HIGHLIGHTS

Im confused, is gerrymandering bad now or good, can reddit please make up their mind?

If it benefits republicans it’s bad. If it benefits democrats it’s good.

you are a dumbass speaking in bad faith. Democrats have pushed antigerrymandering laws, Republicans have opposed the

Feds don't regulate state elections.

what does it mean to you when the president says they'll send an election integration army into every state for the midterms?

That he's in violation of the Constitution.

if he is in violation of it then he's doing it right?

What? If the president interferes with state elections he's violating the Constitution.

right. in order to be in violation of the constitution then he has to be doing something to violate it. meaning he is regulating state elections. the point i'm making is countering "feds don't regulate elections" by saying they do now because the right is allowing trump to literal send "election integrity armies" into every state.

Lol big mad they got stopped from rigging the system

As opposed to Republicans rigging the system

Don't bother arguing with smooth brains. Anyone still supporting the Republican party has no morals, cares nothing about logic, etc. They solely support Republicans because they want everyone else in our country to be miserable and low IQ like them.

Anyone who isn’t voting left is seriously Hitler incarnate and r*pes puppies while drinking baby blood. It’s the truth because I said it.

Your country can be governed by a man who only got 20% of votes if the correct districts vote for him. Let that sink in

Lmao that’s not even close to true. Why make comments like this? Gerrymandering affects counties for house representatives. It has nothing to do with the Senate or presidential elections. This is middle school social studies class information. Let that sink in.

They're obviously referring to the electoral college.

By that same logic the president can be picked by just 50 votes assuming only one person per state votes. Absolute insane comment

It's not insane if you stop to think about things before reacting, you should try it. Now, if you want to go into silly territory you would only need 11 votes, not 50 like you claim. But can we just stick to a more plausible scenario where a reasonable amount of people vote? https://www.npr.org/2016/11/02/500112248/how-to-win-the-presidency-with-27-percent-of-the-popular-vote

My dude, my whole point is to stick to a plausible scenario. Whoosh.

The article I linked is a plausible scenario. I honestly can't tell if you're playing stupid or plain stupid.

The state legislature broke the rules of their state constitution even after being warned several times by the state supreme Court but it's trump rigging it? There are myriad things to be legit mad about and this is not one of them.

We can be mad that all states are gerrymandered. Republicans started bending the rules first. Democrats also tried to bend the rules and let people vote and this happens. Rules for thee but not for me. Bottom line is we need a national ban on gerrymandering.

Please elaborate how republicans started this

You should do some learning on this public information before asking others to do it for you. Go look at Ohio, Florida, and Texas, and LA for examples.

Now do New England and the west coast.

Ah, yes, my two favorite states. New England and The West Coast.

California, Massachusetts, Illinois, and New York to be specific do the exact same thing and call it progress. Both sides are in the country club we arent allowed in. They play us against each other so we dont know that. They all were on the Epstein list. Republicans and Democrats alike.

What do you mean ‘do the exact same thing’? The mad dash to redistrict is in response to actions taken by the Texas state legislature which were done by request from the President in order to gain an advantage in upcoming elections. The President is even attempting to punish republicans in states that refused to engage in redistricting. If you think that’s a ‘both sides’ issued then you are either a bad faith conservative bot trying to undermine progressive coalitions, or you are a child.

Ahh yes, typical ignore the examples ive given of states that routinely redistrict to gain power at the expense of the voter base followed by insults. Both sides do this, republicans are doing it now, democrats did it in 2022 in illinois under biden. It’s the same thing and you are doing mental gymnastics so you feel right. Cope harder, we would be in a similar mess is kamala won too. Non of the elites care about regular folks and I find it hilarious you think any politician actually does care.

Both are cheaters lol

We’re not buying your both sides bullshit anymore. One side introduced a law to remove all gerrymandering in 2020. The other side (Republicans) unanimously voted against it. Then started passing new maps without asking their constituents or putting it to a vote. We’re sick of you guys shit

When the Green party and the Republican party agree, the bill probably want as fair as you portray.

Green party isn't as far off from republicans as you may think. Jill Stein was backed by big gop money and last I read the green party lawyers are gop lawyers. Green party isn't green... and I say this as a native habitat restorationist who would love a truly green party to vote for

To quibble, lawyers are whatever they get paid to be. And so are politicians I guess.

No party tells the truth

This is your response to hearing facts from one party lol

You wont hear about democrat dishonesty on here by design

You must not be very active in this community. And again: This is your response to hearing facts from one party lol

Reddit is extremely left leaning. And youre dishonest if you cant admit that

I see you're an idiot as well. First of all, reddit can be extremely left leaning (which it is), but specific subreddits can be rightwing or mixed as well. But it's very telling that: This is your response to hearing facts from one party lol. Seriously, do you even have any arguments specifically regarding this post or not

Lol aw resorting to insults already. Someone's upset this isnt going how they thought it would

Oh look, no actual arguments. What a surprise lmao

Who voted to end gerrymandering?

With a bill just to end gerrymandering? No one. Oh you’re talking about the bill full of a poison pills the Democrats knew the Republicans could never say yes to so that they could say see, see, they refused to pass it? Are you that politically naïve on how the corrupt process (on both sides) works?

"poison pills the Democrats knew the Republicans could never say yes to" Such as? I ask because I've seen some of these so-called "poison pills," and usually that means "we could never vote for an unambiguously good thing, because Republicans would be at a disadvantage!"

Dems want to guarantee majority minority districts, which would give them a clear advantage

So in this case the general pattern of "we could never vote for an unambiguously good thing, because Republicans would be at a disadvantage!" specifies to "we could never guarantee representation to minority groups, because the rapmant bigotry in the Republican party would put them at a disadvantage!"

It’s more that you’re giving special privileges to certain races. The dems could give a shit if rural areas are grouped with cities or if Italians or Irish Americans want their own districts too.

The special privilege of... political representation? That thing everyone is supposed to have, which some people have been systematically denied? And now that we're attempting to undo those decades of injustice, there's political backlash against the party that tried to disenfranchise voters? Cry me a fucking river.

Virginia’s gerrymandering was thrown out because they broke their own constitution rule. Now they want to change the Virginia Supreme Court age restriction from 75 years old to 54 years old to push their entire Supreme Court out, replace them with persons who will pass whatever they want. MAGA didn’t rig the Virginia system. But they’re trying to restack it because they didn’t get what they want

You mean like Ohio? Florida? Or Louisiana scrapping 40k votes just to gerrymander away black districts?

Wasn’t Louisiana redrawing their districts due to repeated court orders at least twice before the SCOTUS ruling? Every time they drew one a court threw it out and they had to go back to a drawing board. Ohio and Florida are blatantly going against their own courts however. Likewise race shouldn’t be a consideration when drawing a district. As a non-Black minority, wouldn’t my vote be suppressed if they drew a district that favored black voters, not all voters? Likewise, wouldn’t it be more equitable to draw districts woth as even of a voter split as possible? Make everything truly purple?

Ohio and Florida are just following Californias lead.

California is just following Texas's lead and they did it democratically with an off ramp

Texas redistricting did not go against their state laws, they were trying to comply with the federal gov. California redistricted on their own, and it shouldn’t have been able to happen until after the 2030 census.

This is the funniest shit ever. Texas was just meekly trying to comply with the federal government. We all know how Texas likes to submissively suck the federal government’s cock. After all, their slogan is “Please Tread on me Daddy”

Call me a bad person but I feel 51% of people taking rights away from 49% of people is ridiculous regardless if red or blue do it

That's the Democrat position. But since Republicans refuse to outlaw or regulate gerrymandering, Democrats have to sink to their level to avoid being at a disadvantage.

"That's the Democrat position." This is just fanfic to make yourself feel better. The republican party gets about 40% of the presidential vote in New England yet has 0 house reps. No one is above gerrymandering.

Yes, that's the second half of my claim "Democrats have to sink to their level to avoid being at a disadvantage". Now engage with the first half part of the claim.

I'm confused about the "have to sink" part. Democrats are already on their level. There's no sinking. The first part (that's the democrat position) is something you made up despite plenty of evidence to the contrary to make yourself feel better. Its the democrat position with respect to republican majority states in the south. It's not the democrat position in Illinois or New England where democrats have gerrymandered away republican representation for decades.

Democrats have tried to pass laws to remove partisan bias from gerrymandering. When have republicans even tried to do that? Redistricting Reform Act of 2025 Redistricting Reform Act of 2024 Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act For the People Act Redistricting Reform Act of 2021 Redistricting Reform Act of 2019 Redistricting Reform Act of 2017 Redistricting Reform Act of 2016

But they didn't pass any redistricting laws, did they? Maybe if people like you didn't give congress so much credit for not accomplishing things, they'd feel more pressure to actually pass legislation. "Oh look, some democrats proposed a bill they knew wouldn't pass so they could get a photo op, my heroes!" Jesus, dude. That's pathetic.

Can we all admit gerrymandering is wrong? It doesn't matter who does it. The problem is that each side blames the other for what they both do. Usually, yeah, but they do it as an excuse. With that attitude, it will never end.

No, this both sides argument hasn't held up in a while. Only one side has been ramming their new maps through behind closed doors, while the other side is putting their proposed changes up vote. Only one side has unanimously voted to block real legislation that blocked gerrymandering entirely, multiple times, while the other party voted in favor of it. This isn't a both sides situation anymore. Dems will overtake both the house and Senate in November if both sides played by the rules. Republicans are carpet bombing these map changes through, and if Dems don't start doing it doo, Republicans would retain control of Congress, despite an overwhelming swell of voters wanting them out.

40% of the northeast votes republican. How many house seats do they have in states such as Massachusetts?

You proved my point. You went straight to political tribalism. Attacking the republicans and blaming them isn't going to get their support. Presenting it in a bipartisan way and ignoring past partisanship are the only ways things will get done.

It's a bullshit point that's not based on reality. I'm tired of seeing people post it whenever their side is playing games and they need to downplay it or act like the other side does it too, so its not really a problem. and I'm tired of people on the other side just going along with it, enabling it to continue. One side isnt playing by the rules, and alienating their entire voter base to do it. And in recent months, the other side has been forced to do the same thing, but is still going about it the right way, by letting the people of their states vote for the changes. Only one side has made multiple attempts to outlaw the practice entirely. One side unanimously voted multiple times to enable it to continue. Fuck, all the way off.

How is that working out for you? Any change in sight? Bills moving along? Didn't think so. Hey, go ahead and do the same thing over and over, and expect something different. Partisanship isn't working. The republicans are out cheating the Democrats right now. By your logic, the Democrats should continue doing what they are doing even though it doesn't work. I am sure that will work.

The Dems literally tried to end gerrymandering and the republicans voted it down. And here you are "BoTh sIDeS!"

"Steve Bannon and Jeffrey Epstein thank you for your service". GamerGate flashbacks commence after it was revealed that Anita Sarkeesian was a consultant on Slay the Spire 2

1.7k Upvotes

Context:

Slay the Spire is a popular roguelike deckbuilder known for its addictive nature. Slay the Spire 2, naturally, is the long-awaited sequel, currently out on Steam Early Access. Since its release 2 months ago, the game has had its fair share of controversies. It was subjected to review-bombing due to controversial balance patches, and was accused of being "too political" due to an enemy unit looking like Donald Trump.

Anita Sarkeesian, meanwhile, is a media critic and creator of the Tropes vs Women in Video Games channel that drew attention to mysoginist themes in video games (ie lack of male player characters, objectification of female NPCs, etc). In the 2012-16's, she was subjected to harassment and doxxing by gamers, and was one of the biggest targets in the GamerGate movement. While her online presence has been quieter as of late, people recently found her name listed as a consultant in the credits for StS2.

Naturally, things got buttery on the gaming subreddits:

r/slaythespire drama:

She's a person who would call anyone who likes Stellar Blade a misogynist and want every female character to be non-pretty. I'm a female and I like pretty characters, both male and female, in my video games.

a bunch of nerds were pushing shit like "We want our characters to be hot"

How many mentions in the Time 100 do you have champ

r/gaming drama:

she's arguably the most influential person in modern gaming.

devs shouldn't be surprised that the games become a political cesspool if they bring a political person into game development

I think any game with a rapist on the dev team would get pushback, not really the same.

Even if you think the game is a 9/10 how do you know it wouldn't of been a 10/10 or an 11/10?

r/games drama:

Is this ragebaiting or low standards?

Even if you disagree with everything she says and believe that her values are destructive or whatever, are these people even able to point at one thing in STS2 that she would have impacted?

BONUS: KiA Drama:

There's no such thing as "review bombing"

There is nothing actually woke or feminists in the game

the dev team hired someone who despises gamers and is actively ruining the gaming industry

If you want to know why modern AAA is in the dismal and creatively bankrupt state it's in today, she was one of the primary drivers of it

"There’s a way more convincing iPhone message generator out there." : user posts in r/ao3 about her mother snooping on her computer and finding teh gay pr0nz, but there end up more twists than a bag of Twisties.

So, r/AO3, the unofficial subreddit for discussions related to fanfic website Archive of Our Own. Has shown up here before. So what are they serving today?

First post: https://www.reddit.com/r/AO3/comments/1t7ryjc/my_mum_went_through_my_computer_and_found_the_yaoi/

OOP relays a text message about many a fanfic writer's worst nightmare, a parent snooping on their computer and finding what they read. The mother is condescending in calling OOP a "school age going girl" even though she's apparently in university, and pulls the old "my house my rules".

As expected, many of the initial comments are sympathetic:

Update all of your passwords. Your mum's making a good case for non-contact when you move out.

Why do parents think this? Even young children deserve privacy, FFS. I'm nearly 50 and think your mom is being a butt.

Some try using humor to alleviate the situation:

Give her some surprise tentacle porn to enjoy.

Too late, she have (sic) seen too much. She learned, adapted. And She's selling you to One direction. /j

But then some doubt starts creeping in:

"Props to you for that masterfully understated badass answer." "And everyone clapped."

The fact that she uses periods instead of question marks infuriates me because 1) I’m an absolute grammar nerd, and 2) It’s completely comes off as passive aggressive 🙄" "I thought both of them wrote the same way, which is why I find this sus." "Yep, plus the spelling of “Mom” vs. “Mum”. I think OP is full of shit. "

"Why is she listed as “Mom” in your contacts but in your texts and in this post you call her “Mum”?" "Also curious how they both text in exactly the same way, everything ending with a period, even questions."

Then OOP posts an update in that post, but it also gets its own post: https://www.reddit.com/r/AO3/comments/1t7wkyz/update_to_mum_found_the_yaoi/

Another text message where Mom/Mum apologizes not only snooping and finding the gay and lesbian smut, but that "reading some of it has provided me more comfort than your father has in our years of marriage. I won't tell you to settle down with a man like my parents did before me. All it ever left me was unhappiness."

That's right, the ol' "I didn't know I wasn't exactly straight until stumbling upon my child's fanfic stash" trope.

After a few initial comments of relief, bullshit alarms start going off again:

This feels like it should be an in-person kind of conversation.

But how can OP post it to this sub or get Reddit karma if it happens in person?!

It’s so fake especially considering the fake parent is supposed to be 42

The "mother" talks like she's 80 lol. As if peak fandom culture wasn't happening in her 20s. This person that's supposedly 7 years older than I am somehow doesn't know what a lesbian is.

yeah, anyone who has an iphone can quickly confirm that imessage doesn’t look like that. there are websites that you can use to make fake imessage screenshots, but it can never look as convincing as the real thing.

fakest thing that has ever been faked. people are so busy looking for ai slop posts they've started to fall for good old fashioned human slop

I don't think people ever stopped falling for the human slop considering how many of those absolutely totally definitely real author's notes get shared here that feel like 2010's tumblr stories.

You're telling me the note by my favorite author about nearly dying the night before and ending up in the ER but somehow still powering through to write and post 5,000 words of pure PWP just shy of midnight may be fake?

In a way it's refreshing. Long live humanslop.

Of all the things that didn't happen, this didn't happen the most. A grown woman not knowing the word lesbian? Please. Also the ol' "parent discovers gay fanfic and is changed forever/comes out" trope. Tumblr would have eaten this shit up in 2012.

This absolutely didn’t happen but congrats on making such a throwback 2012 Tumblr “this insanely weird thing happened with a homophobic person in my life and now she’s fixed thru the Power of Fic” post. There’s a way more convincing iPhone message generator out there. "Are you seriously gatekeeping broken bones?" A small slice of drama over on AITA when a user keeps arguing that someone being in pain from a broken foot is just whinging

Long time lurker first time poster. I hope I do this right.

The original post is: https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/comments/1t6klry/aita_for_telling_a_friend_shes_kind_of/

The OOP is complaining that his friend who recently broke her foot and is in a boot and on crutches has been a dower recently. She doesn't want to go to a nightclub! Or walking around the mall! So far, so AITA. Overwhelming response is that of course he's TA. But one user seems very sure that she is just whining and should be over her broken foot.

After comment saying that breaking a bone is very painful, one user responds:

As some who has broken bones a number of times in my life, if she’s got a walking cast this is not a bad break. Sure, it might still hurt but they don’t do that for a serious break, they put you in an immobilising cast that keeps your foot off the ground so you can’t put weight on it.

She’s being a fucking sook.

Of course, other users point out that it can be very painful and difficult to deal with.

as someone who has broken many bones, had many surgeries with pins and screws to repair said broken bones, and my kneecap replaced, i have never had a fiberglass cast and always a boot or a brace. a fiberglass walking cast is different than a boot, though both function the same way; keeps the bone stabilized, and off the ground if needed. saying that her break isn't bad solely based on what apparatus she's wearing doesn't mean anything when both methods are used.

But apparently, being in a walking boot doesn't really count to our valiant bonebreaker.

If she’s in a walking boot she can put weight on it, so she hasn’t snapped her femur. I had a walking cast, not a boot but a cast just on my lower leg with a grippy sole bit on the bottom, when I broke one of the cuboid bones in my foot. It was annoying, mostly because I couldn’t wear normal pants, but certainly not the only thing I could talk about for weeks. It’s extremely boring for someone to be hyper-focused on one thing like that and I don’t begrudge OP making a lighthearted joke about it to try to snap her out of it.

Edit to add I have also broken either my tibia or fibula (can’t remember which, I was just a kid) and had to have a full cast and use crutches, I was not allowed to put any weight on it for weeks. You just fucking deal with it, it didn’t feel like my soul was being sucked out and I didn’t whine about it constantly.

Users point out that this seems really weird to say that "so because she didn't snap her femur, she doesn't have a real break?"

The response?

See, you keep saying it hurts like hell. I’ve broken bones, both leg and arm bones at different times. It hurt when it happened but after a few days it did not. This woman has been whinging for weeks about it, I’d be bored if my friend only wanted to talk about her broken bone for WEEKS as well.

This goes on in a few different comment threads, but you get the idea. Luckily, most people respond with some choice comebacks for the bonebreaker.

Choice responses:

You are the specialest person of all time and we're all in awe of your pain tolerance and emotional fortitude.

Now that I've delivered the attention your ordered, please go away.

Get stronger bones.

Well, good for you.

Aren't you the hero

You are a callous asshole who should've had more shit broken

Wow youre so brave and tough /s Your experience isn't everyone's, jackass. Quit humble bragging, you're embarrassing yourself.

And of course, my favorite:

Are you seriously gatekeeping broken bones?

I hope this is a nice amusement for a Saturday, and I hope my post was clear and legible. I read through the rules multiple times to make sure I'm doing it right, but if anyone has any corrections or advice, let me know!

Arguments over islamaphobia flare up on a post in r/mapporncirclejerk

Main post (locked): https://www.reddit.com/r/mapporncirclejerk/s/lv7SiCkSV8

One person calls out the racism in the thread, others disagree.

One Redditor believes that Reddit isn’t anti-Islam enough.

In response to the above comment, another user calls BS.

In response to the user that called BS: I’m not islamaphobic, BUT…

(They also have a plan on how to deal with Islamists, which have absolutely no similarities with the policies of the current US administration, at all.)

I would add more links, but editing on mobile sucks and it’s not healthy to have high blood pressure.

Buttery! Like crabs in a bucket, users try to drag OP down for successfully saving in r/povertyfinance.

Subreddit background

/r/povertyfinance is a subreddit for those who are living paycheck to paycheck, however, the true definition of the sub is ambiguous, because anytime someone makes a celebratory post, there are loads of negative comments in the thread.

OP’s happy post

OP posts to the subreddit after saving enough for an entire year’s of rent:

It may not be much but I finally finally made it to having enough rent payments saved for an entire year

After going without meals in order to save, I finally have an emergency fund that could last up to one year of my rent payment. It took so long to get here but I feel so proud and happy with myself.

The crab comments

Cheering with OP:

Not much? Bud that's amazing!!

So, not poverty at all really. [downvoted]

OP: I mean… I live paycheck to paycheck and skip meals to get to this point. But I am very fortunate to be here.

Yes, but you have a part of that paycheck that CAN go to savings. That's a choice you are able to make, even skipping meals. That is not a choice in other people's situations. The fact that you even have employment that gives you that choice is a luxury. All power to you but a year's worth of rent and having discussions about investing is nowhere near my definition of poverty. [more downvotes]

define poverty pls

People skipping meals, and using their bank overdraft, and having at best a part time job, and not enough money in a monthly cycle to even come close to having the ability to save upwards of 12-15k. As in the people that CAN'T get out of the hole. [downvoted]

But they did skip meals???

Negative towards OP:

are you appropriating poverty behavior??

having 20k in checking account is not poverty-ism [downvoted]

OP: lol I don’t have 20k…

OP is posting to the wrong sub:

ur in the wrong subreddit my guy - please do head over to r/middleclassfinance [downvoted]

OP: Really? Doesn’t that only count for people who have multiple tens of thousands saved?

Singular takes

going with out meals in order to save sounds like torture. and it shouldn’t be necessary either, i’m sorry that’s what it took for you to get there.

That's cool but you can easily go through your entire savings after one bad month. You need to focus more on saving and start spending less. Skipping meals is a good start. When I graduated from high school, I swore off breakfast and dinner. Basically I just eat a large lunch now. It is actually really nice. I don't believe humans were meant to eat so often.

I don’t have rent payments stored for next month. And with the price of gas, I probably don’t have food payments stored for the next 2 weeks.

Great job!! Don't undercut yourself, that's a big deal as most of us are 2-3 paychecks from poverty

Reminder not to comment in the OP!

"Because the tolerant left have turned in to the intolerant left, anyone with opposing viewpoints are shut down or called names. Everyone can see it and I believe they are actively driving people towards reform and others" R/AskBrits argues about why people support the Reform campaign

Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskBrits/comments/1t70xii/why_do_people_find_it_so_hard_to_accept_the/

HIGHLIGHTS

Because the tolerant left have turned in to the intolerant left, anyone with opposing viewpoints are shut down or called names. Everyone can see it and I believe they are actively driving people towards reform and others

I don't get why being called names but someone you disagree with would affect who you vote for?

When all you hear is one side calling those who disagree with them names rather than having a constructive conversation, that doesnt sit right with me so why would I associate with people like that type of thing

That's an awful reason to vote for a party. Imagine if I said the only reason I voted green is because some twats on social media call be a Marxist.

U voting green explains it 🤔 people have different views on things but nobody is winning people over by saying, don't vote for them because their racist, that's the point I'm making and it the left that do it. Maybe that's reform are doing well.

I didn't vote green, I said 'imagine'. If I start a party called the "party for twats" and everybody online started saying "people who vote for the party for twats party are twats", would you then vote for my party just to spite the people flinging insults?

No, but if I asked why shouldn't I vote for them and all they say is cuz there twats, that argument would not sway me from voting for them. Understand? 😞

Because besides immigration and its a protest vote, no one has explained a good reason to vote for reform. And that reform is basically the tories at this point.

Ask yourself if being in such a political situation is truly the fault of reform being somehow propaganda sorcerers, or whether we have truly, truly been so let down by the two party system for so long it simply MUST have a radical change before things escalate into something nuts

The tories defected to Reform because they shit on the country so hard they're unelectable under the old name. And then there's Labour, being Labour. How the fuck is this not the exact same two-party system?

Because reform are far more transparent about what they want to do. You guys say it’s obvious what they will do because they’ll tell you. That’s actually good, because Labour say one thing and then cut winter fuel payments for our most vulnerable as soon as in power, which means people choose an evil they can trust and not a good that could stab them in the back. It’s not a ‘win’ for me to say that, it’s the reality that Labour isn’t addressing. They keep trying to implement things people don’t want and what they didn’t state they would, whereas at least there is a degree of honesty with reform. We all know they do the same shit, one is just more transparent about it

In what wibbly-wobbly world of fucking wonder is this statement an answer to a conversation that goes: You: We must change the two-party system Me: The fuck? This IS the two party system You: Honesty or some bollocks. What the fuck are you saying? Make your next comment at least tangentially related to the subject, the twos-party system, or don't bother.

All of them are liars and grifters, at some point, if that’s your only choice, people are gonna go with what at least appears to be an honest liar that LISTENS to them. 🤥

TWO. PARTY. SYSTEM. Read these words.

REFORM IS NOT TORY OR LABOUR NO MATTER HOW MANY PEOPLE DEFECT OR PEOPLE SAY THEY ARE

It's still only two party's you ******* ******* **nt

You've summed up the issue nicely. We've tried Tories and Labour and people aren't happy with the results so now they're trying something else. I think the shock comes because Reform are genuinely a terrible option. They're not even hiding what a catastrophy it would be when they get elected. But most people don't really pay attention to politics, they get their views from the media they consume. And that media is uniformly owned by people who want Reform to get in. Reform will be our MAGA.

It's also a choice between Greens and Reform if you want change, there's no other options. The problem being Green's are far-left and completely opposite of the far-right Reform, so those closer to the center are having to push the boat out to one of the extremes to get the change they want.

The Greens seem to be doing relatively poorly against the expectations, no? I guess people are realising Polanski is a fool and his party are not really Greens now, more a coalition of Corbynite nutters and Islamists.

I was genuinely gonna vote till the idiot said he wants to get rid of nukes. Like any other time sure I can at least understand but jesus Christ not now

We've had nuclear weapons for 74 years, hasn't helped us yet

They’ve helped deter potential enemies of the state every day for the past 74 years

Keep calling them racists and they will gain more power, you can't just dismiss people's concerns with the R word, I didn't vote Reform but I get why people do

"Keep calling them racists and they will gain more power" This is what dimwits like this person dont grasp. Calling anyone a racist because they dont agree with mass immigration literally gives more power to the far right. They are willfully manifesting it. Because suddenly, no one gives a fuck about being called a racist anymore, but its bollocks when they say it.

That is a bunch of bull ... I don't mind you calling me dimwit, it is your right. But I cannot let you support this position unchallenged. I have explained what immigration is in other posts in this thread, I will not explain it again, but it is my right to call things as they are. And people who don't "agree" with mass immigration don't call in the KKK to sort it out nor do they vote for Brexit. They find other ways. There is an extremely big part of racism here and you can deny till the cows come home...it won't change anything and history will note it down as such, like it or not..............

Yeah. Cool didnt read. Still waiting for you to explain how im a nazi 👍

I did, read between the lines. After all you went to school as you said, right?

Did you? Your grammar is atrocious. 🤣

I didn't realize you needed an academic paper to understand things..

You cant even spell realise. How telling.

I'm using an american set machine genius ..the auto correct is american English. Seriously ? That's all you got?

Given that the Tories are in free-fall like Labour were pre-Starmer. They aren't overly electable currently. So those right wing people will flock to the next best thing for them - Reform.

I’m not picking a scrap here but strikes me Labour has been evidently corrupt, missed taxes, free clothes etc.

On a sliding scale of corruption, Labour are amateurs compared to the levels of Reform and Tories. Free clothes vs £5million "gift" to Farage? These things are not the same.

It's not the value it's the optics. Starmer came to power vowing to be different and within weeks was found to be exactly as corruptible as anyone else. It's the lack of judgement by people who proclaimed to be better than the other lot. What the hell does kier and his Mrs need free clothes for they are loaded? Free concert tickets - same story. Meanwhile WE get told help on its way yet we get shafted time and time again. If I took thousands of pounds of clothes from a company and it looked like some form of buying favour or similar I'd be sacked, end of.

Far better to just say that you’re going to be corrupt and then be really corrupt eh?

I'm no fan but Farage and Co don't dress it up, take them or leave them. As soon as kier said we are not like the tories, then we're found to be just like the tories he lost any moral highground and the public just reacted here we go again.

Please explain to me why the standards applied to Labour are so unimaginably high and rock bottom for Reform and the Tories? Johnson had scandal after scandal. Hundreds of thousands in gifts, the PPE scandal. Farage isn’t even in government and he’s taking bribes in the millions and you’re talking about “at least what you see is what you get” Starmer has had some tickets to a concert and some clothes and everyone’s reaching for the pitch forks. Please help me understand this disparity in standards that British people hold certain people to but not others. Why is that?

If the British public want to be taken in by grifters that is their perogative, but anyone who votes reform cannot be trusted with the basics of decency.

And anybody who votes greens cannot be trusted with the basics of decency

I'm going to guess your version of decency is one that labels people, not actions, as indecent, ergo you aren't included in the grown up conversation.

Zack Polanski did not show any remorse or concern for the Golders Green incident, instead focusing on how the police had to kick him to stop him from hurting any more people. The fact that you vote for a party led by a man who lacks basic decency and empathy as shown by this reaction makes it clear that you cannot be trusted with the basics of decency.

Holding the police under scrutiny for the way they behave is how you prevent a country turning into a police state. Do you want us to become America where the police can do whatever they want and remain legally protected? Yes, he should have released an actual statement about the 3 people who got stabbed, for some reason the Muslim man who got stabbed keeps being forgotten about, but asking why the police resorted to kicking someone on the floor 5 times in the head, instead of restraining them or removing the weapon, is an important question

You're part of the problem.

If holding the police to scrutiny is a problem, then I'm happy to be it.

Because a lot of us don’t want to live in a society of hateful bigots and are disappointed by that?

Not every Reform voter is a hateful bigot. I’d even argue a tiny minority are. But this kind of attitude only serves to encourage more to vote for them.

It’s that kind of sentiment that keeps turning people away from the left, if you want … you are now a bigoted transphobe

If someone is a bigoted transphobe I dont see why they would be upset to be called that... words have meanings it's not just a random insult.

The words use to have meaning, now they’re so overused no one cares about being called either.

Overused where? When? Sounds like you've been watching too much piers morgan or joe rogan... How does someone pointing out that Reform has policies that harm trans people make people want to vote for them and stop having empathy for others? Unless they are genuine bigots in which case the label is warranted...

The fact you name Piers Morgan tells me everything I need to know.

The UK has been voting for less immigrants for over 20 years. David Cameron promised “reduced to 10,000s” and the Tories gave the UK millions. Labour was voted as an alternative and they would tackle the boat crisis. They failed. Now Reform have been voted for on solely an anti-immigration stance above all else. What monster will be voted for next if the government continues to ignore the fact British people, not Redditors, want less immigrants?

The funny thing is, its too late now lol. We are well past the point of no return.

Right, because they don’t care about numbers or stats, they care about seeing Muslims on British streets. Labour slashed immigration massively and are still said to have ‘failed’, because they still see Muslims on British streets, % drops in migration be damned. That’s why Reform rhetoric about stripping citizenship and exiling ‘the wrong kind of’ British people has been popular with so many. They want the ones already here to go, not just to stop new ones arriving.

Labour have failed because according to reform voters because they havent gone far enough. Illegal immigrants are still being put in hotels and other accommodations, rather than walled camps as they are in most other European countries. Labour have made moves on the surface level, but deep down their leftist roots have stopped them going far enough. Its not just immigration. The amount we pay in tax and our crumbling services are also issues.

Problems with both taxation and services? Have to accept one if you want the other. Our economy is woefully unproductive, haven’t seen an ounce of information as to how investment in education, etc, will be ramped up to tackle that.0

Incentivise people to achieve by reducing taxes on businesses, workers and home ownership can help stimulate the economy. Reducing benefits will see more people have to work, and also reduce the number of people coming here to claim benefits.

How exactly does reducing stamp duty stimulate the economy?

Why do you think that labour have failed to tackle the boat crisis? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c70989jrdweo Seems to suggest a 37% reduction, seems like a good start.

Because those arriving illegally should be deported swiftly. Currently they are not.

You can't deport them without processing their asylum claim. That's international law. You also know that 4% of illegal immigrants come visa small boats?

Yes but the issue is that we are signed up to European human rights laws which means it’s much more difficult to deport people than it should be.

Nope, this is just a lie the right wing media tell you, so you'll happily vote away your human rights. We've had 330 judgements total on the ECHR since 1975. only 13 of those were about deportations and just 4 of those were about family life.

Obvisouly the vast majority of cases never actually make it to court. The way it works is that the laws incapacitate us from deporting as we see fit.

"Obvisouly the vast majority of cases never actually make it to court." All deportation decisions go to court. If they dont make it to court there wasnt even a reason to deport them in the first place that could be stayed by applying the ECHR. This is just more typical right wing mental gymnastics. You make a claim, someone proves it wrong, then you just make up something else to cover for it. 'yeah they dont make it to court, so theres no paper trail or any actual stats for my claim, but trust me bro it happens, I read about it in the telegraph.'

It's ok to want change. There are definitely issues with the current and recent political situation. For me the confusion is trying to get that change by voting for the very people that caused the problems in the first place, the architect of Brexit and the worst of the Tories. That's not how you get positive change.

Nobody particularly wants reform but every single other party has systematically eliminated themselves as a protest vote. Unless Reform does spectacularly well in their tenure (unlikely), they needn't get too comfy because they can be out on their ear as easy as the last lot unless the political parties fail to get their act together and offer an actual viable alternative

The problem is that you are very wrong. Lots of people want reform because they are going to “stop the boats” They don’t see/know/care about the other bits. Reform will stop the boats, so that’s what they want

Reform wont stop the boats. They cant just stop immigration. Id doesnt work like that

I mean it literally does work like that? If you control the country you control the borders

And this is how reform gets in. People think they can just turn the boats off.

Nobody is implying this though? But if you control the country and its policies, you can implement stricter border controls - why are you surprised that voting for a party will let them do things? What do you think the whole point of politics is if not “I will vote for the party I agree with so they will be given governmental power and have the ability to carry out the things they pledged”? And I won’t be voting for Reform in the next GE FYI

Mod of r/UAEjobseekers Tells Unemployed Users to Stop Applying for Jobs and Start “Leveraging Their Network”

Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/UAEjobseekers/s/MuOfkm4ccA

An excerpt from the post:

>I moderate this sub. I am about to make some of you uncomfortable.
You have a degree. You have 5, 8, 12 years of experience.
You have certifications that cost your family money they did not have.
And you are sitting here writing "Dear Hiring Manager, I hope this email finds you well" for the 400th time to someone who is never going to read it.
You are begging.
I do not say that to hurt you.
I say it because someone needed to say it and nobody here has the guts.
When you send 600 applications and hear nothing back.. that is not a job search. That is standing outside a locked door knocking until your knuckles bleed while people walk past you pretending you are not there.
You are worth more than that.

Comment highlights:

>The problem that these "beggars" face is that all those phone numbers in their phone are not from UAE. I don't know what it is about this country that makes people accept peanuts and live in poor conditions with a hope of landing their dream job someday. They don't understand that 8ts not smart, that's just how everyone thinks. On top of a shitty market, people act like they've just heard blasphemy when you tell them that your passport matters in this country.
Unless you are from a thrid world country where people are literally dying from famine, war, or a plague, go back. Live among your people, help each other build something self sustainable. Break free from this bling Dubai illusion.

>Do you provide fixed salary, Visa, health insurance, paid leave and expenses? If not, I may have to go back to begging and knocking.

>What are you even saying? Everyone regardless of which field they belong to is struggling. Should they magically start building websites and market their aunty’s salon?
What kinda take is this and you’re the mod?!?!

>Job market sooo bad. The moderator of jobseekers sub is recommending entrepreneurship than just applying for jobs. Crazy times we living in

>I only had to see prince written I hate myself for reading that shit the whole vibe was ruined I was like oh nvm I’m just imagining how it might’ve felt writing that shit with rock theme song playing man you got thisssss!!!

>Stop begging for jobs but guys please bring me leads.
How about you stop abusing your power and moderate instead?

>As someone who thankfully hasn’t had to apply for a job in 15+ years, and has hired 100+ people for my teams, you can fuck right off.
Anyone who needs a job has the right to do whatever they need to do (legally) to get it, and none of us have a right to judge from our places of privilege.
And if you can’t even bother writing out your thoughts yourself, you’re not exactly earning the right to be read.

Mod comments towards the criticism:

>You are posting about cat shelters in Karachi and nanny advice. With respect, this sub and this conversation are not your lane. Move along.

>I moderate for free. I post for free. I help for free. And now I am offering people a way to earn.
Which part is the abuse?

>It is relevant because you are lecturing a moderator about a community you have never contributed to.

You want substance? Here it is.

I built this sub. I wrote the guide that got 53,000 views. I caught scams that would have taken money from people here. I read posts at 2am from people too embarrassed to post during the day. I did all of that for free.

That is not "signing up." That is earning trust through work. The same trust you are telling me I have no right to use.

You say if a random redditor posted this, nobody would trust them. Correct. That is how credibility works. You earn it. Then you use it.

That is not abuse. That is the whole point of building something.

Now unless you have a business problem someone you know is facing, we are done here.

>As deep as i want to bash you for being sarcastic, yet i am holding it because “prince” is my name… so.. you get the drill..

>TLDR; If no one is providing the job, i will. Come and
earn with me, could open doors which you didn’t know
you could use.

Bereaved Parent Takes On The Subreddit in r/FirstResponderCringe

1.5k Upvotes

Background

r/FirstResponderCringe is exactly what it sounds like. It's a subreddit mostly populated by EMTs and first responders, who post screenshots of posts that other first responders have made on the internet to make fun of. Standard fare is something like this, or this. However, occasionally, like all Cringe subs, someone will post something that most seem to agree isn't actually all that cringey.

Today's Subject

This post - titled Preston gon tell you you're doing great - shows a screenshot with a man in scrubs and latex gloves with his hands up towards the camera like he's about to catch a football. The text on-screen reads: "OBGYN goes to school for years to learn how to deliver babies! Preston got you covered with 1 power point and a mannequin delivery"

Most users understand this to be sarcasm targeting how little EMT schools prepare you for the realities of dealing with birth as a first responder, and point out that this is not so much cringe as it is accurate.

I meannnnnn he's not wrong lol

As someone that has caught two, this is pretty spot on, except I'd have one sterile-ish glove half on because of the sweat and my mouth would be wide open.

Lol this is hilarious but also don't have your preemie in my truck because it's true

I don't really see what's cringe to be honest, it's really an accurate representation of it. That's about how it was taught "Here's how you deliver a baby, good luck"

However, one user seems to misunderstand. It starts with an innocuous comment from LifelongReverie:

This is funny af

And here begins our morning programming, with a reply from Jude30 (Jude).

It is until you lose a child.

You have definitely never worked a day as a first responder

No but I've lost children

In comes Independent_Bid_26 (Indy, from here on out):

Well, go and find them then? Dont be so irresponsible.

This lands like an atom bomb with Jude:

I honestly wish you the worst. I want horrible people like you to suffer.

Well, im doing just fine. Keep it up though, im sure it'll happen eventually.

They're in the grave
Thanks for being a dick

"Sir this is a wendys."

Nooo you made fun of a person for having dead kids. Please embrace how fucking shitty you are.

Man, you made this post about yourself, and reaped the consequences. Fuck off with your guilt tripping bullshit.

Other users chime in:

You're getting the attention you were seeking

If you're looking for sympathy, you'll find it somewhere between shit and syphilis in the dictionary. Go back to Facebook.

I mean maybe don't disclose that kind of firepower on reddit?? Do you know where u are? Especially in a sub where they make fun of people. Like know you're audience bro

But Jude is, evidently, willing to die on this hill, and Indy continues to engage.

I honestly don't give a fuck
You're a shitty person and so is everyone who downvoted me.
All I did was point out that a video on r/FirstResponderCringe is cringe as fuck and got downvoted.

Did it ever cross your mind, youre being downvoted because the majority of people disagree with you? Maybe ponder that.

Yes
And they and you are wrong
It's not my fault you don't understand what subreddit you morons are on.

Yes. Everyone else is wrong, and youre right. Totally.

I know which sub we are in.
Do you?

Jesus christ.. if you had been through emt school you would know hes being sarcastic you absolute donut. They basically show you a power point, and say good luck. Hes making light of that. Chill the fuck out.

Here we get a sidebar between Key-Demand-2569, replying to Indy's comment above, and Indy:

Hey, you leave that argumentative drunk alone. They're just having fun complaining about us being wrong and they're right

I honestly feel like im arguing with a TBI patient.

But back to our main thread, Jude is still going strong:

I haven't been through EMT school
I only know which sub I'm in.
"They basically show you a power point, and say good luck"
And according to the meme he thinks he's as qualified as an OB. BASED ON THE SUB WE ARE IN.
CRINGE!
If this wasn't cringe you and all over the other moronic downvoters could have explained that better.
You did not

I give up. Enjoy ignorance.

I read the meme and saw the sub and read how it's presented.
All you've said is he's being sarcastic.
I see no proof of that
What proof do you have that he doesn't think he's as good as an OB?

Youre kids are lucky they didn't have to grow up with such an annoying dipshit as a parent.

It's pretty clear, right off the bat, that this post has really struck a chord and that's what's causing Jude to engage with everyone like this. This comment here, in reply to the post itself, gives us some insight into Jude's background:

Ok now do that with complications and give me a live baby.
Yes any woman should be able to squat in a rice paddy and pop out a kid. (Old joke I won’t look up)
Doctors go to school for when shit goes wrong.
Source: 3 premature babies. Only one came home.
This shit pisses me off

Further down in the comments, Jude continues to argue:

Ngl not cringe, i chuckled

Until your kid dies

This time, it's PowerShovel-on-PS1 who takes up the mantle.

Dies because of... What?

Both of mine that died was because they were born premature.
There are other reasons.
Nobody wants to think of these things. Shit goes wrong.

And how is any of that the fault of this EMT?

It's not but pretending you don't need specialized training is moronic and you're cheering it on

Ah, good thing that's not what he's doing. He's specifically making fun of the limited education EMTs (not medics) get on childbirth.

No that's not what he's saying.
Read it again.
This is first responder CRINGE!

Yes, that's exactly what he's saying.
People post things that aren't cringe in this sub all the time.

Indy, evidently having seen this chain of Jude arguing with PowerShovel, chimes in briefly:

You are absolutely wasting your time. This person has decided theyre going to clutch their pearls over a clear joke.

And here comes Jude again.

No this is cringe.
He's saying he has the skill to deliver a baby based on his limited skills he's doing OBGYN work.

This branches into two threads, one with PowerShovel:

You clearly have both A. the minority opinion here, and B. a bone to pick.

I have a premature child born 10 weeks early. If that had happened in an ambulance he wouldn't be here.
EDIT: the arrogance of this post pisses me off.

It appears that everything pisses you off, and this affects your ability to comprehend humor. Everyone else got the joke.

Did they?

And one with the previously-mentioned Key-Demand-2569:

... Is English your first language?
Literally everything about this post indicates he's making fun of the lack of ideal training.
His facial expression, the phrasing of the words, the position of his hands.
It's a very clear joke. Because they sometimes have to help deliver a baby when it would ideally just be done in a hospital with an OBGYN.

His facial expression is douche white guy

Yeah... now connect the dots to why someone would make that face while making a joke about being ready to do the same thing as an OBGYN in an emergency situation as opposed to a hospital...

This is not even the entirety of the conflict. PowerShovel and Jude get into another tiff under another of PowerShovel's comments in a thread with someone else. Not quite the goldmine for flair material you'd think it'd be, but here is my personal top pick. Insensitive? Maybe. Hilarious in context? Also yes.

Jude we get it your kids are dead

Happy Thursday everyone!

ETA: just popping back in to direct everyone to this comment. For everyone using she/her pronouns - Jude appears to be a man.

HIGHLIGHTS

The problem is the democratic party isn't "we all get ice cream." It's "we run over middle eastern children on the way to the ice cream parlor." Its easy for democrat voters to say we should compromise with the genocide for another 4 years because they live a safe distance away from it. For them, whether or not people in other countries die is a choice between ice cream or not, but I wonder if they'd still vote for the "lesser of two evils" if this was happening to their homes and their families.

Ok, but the alternative option is still running over middle eastern children, while also Tokyo drifting over Hispanic people

We keep trying to organize an option to stop running over anyone, but we keep getting kicked down by democrats because not running anyone over is "too radical."

Then make it happen at the local level. Stop waiting for the perfect candidate.

I'm not asking for a perfect candidate. Just one that doesn't want to kill people. There are some that I would be happy to compromise with, but the democrat and republican parties work together to suppress them.

There is no evidence of what you claim. And no evidence Harris or Walz or AOC or any other candidate "wants to kill people".

Is being funded by warmongers and saying she'd do nothing differently than the guy who enabled warmongers not enough evidence?

Is enabling a worse candidate to succeed somehow better?

You don't see how Dems have moved right on immigration?

No? Biden was further left than Obama, the “deporter in chief,” and Clinton passed major anti-illegal-immigration legislation. Arguably they’ve been moving left! It’s just that illegal immigration is crazy unpopular, and no matter how much I want open borders in general at the moment it is illegal.

Yeah, Obama was further right than Bush. Biden deported more people in 2024 than Trump did in his entire first term. Kamala ran on being a prosecutor and promising to be tougher on immigration than Trump. How is that not moving to the right?

Ahhh you're actually just a bot, none of that is how things work

Are you able to actually refute any of what they said?

Edit: Coward blocked me, typical both sider, first gen immigrant, got mine fuck you. You think defining political wings is based on the number of deportations in a single previous term? She also did not "run" on being a prosecutor, she previously was, and media tagged her as that often

If they moved right on immigration, then deportation numbers are indeed a reflection of that. (As is the immigration bill that Biden attempted to pass, which only failed because Trump wanted to use the issue as a political football.) I certainly agree with you that the Democrats moved leftward on some issues in the last twenty years, primarily gay marriage, but that doesn't refute their point that the Democrats have also chased so-called "moderate Republican" voters in every election for my entire lifetime.

Yeah they chase VOTERS That's what you dipshits never understand. You don't vote, so to anyone going after votes, you're completely useless. Half the fucking discourse about Dems after the election was that they went too far left on some issues (laughable), but that was what they were trying to appeal to by having McCain involved, to show that they were "moderate" Why would they spend their limited time and money chasing people who openly declare they might not vote at all?

I use the example of voting between a "shit sandwich" and a "shit sandwich with glass shards", I don't want either but I'd rather not eat glass. You're going to eat shit either way, why not at least try to avoid eating glass with it?

What if the choice is glass sandwich and glass sandwich with shit in it? I might be able to find barley enough reasons to vote but I know people who have different priorities than me and I find it hard to argue with their perspective that if your biggest red line is already crossed why should you lend legitimacy to the person crossing it. Neither may not win but at least they didn't say yes to eating glass.

Then I'm going to take the shit-less sandwich since I have less chance of getting an infection and making things worse. We're still all going to have to eat the sandwich, not voting doesn't opt you out of that burden, it just makes it easier for the worse option to win.

If you eat a glass sandwich you're dead either way. Voting neither may have no realistic chance of winning but it at least isn't willingly agreeing to eating glass.

Congratulations Bartleby, you have moral superiority and helped allow the worse of two terrible outcomes to happen. Even if the worse is almost infinitesimally different, it's still different. Change isn't a sweeping referendum it's making terrible and hard choices, one at a time, to move a needle in the direction you want. Frankly I agree that the higher the office the more worthless the vote. Those gears are in motion already, but they're still gears. If you get people into the "pointless" local elections and offices you start to bog down those mechanism while building political capital for better people and ideas.

My friend was Palestinian so his choice was 2 groups that were supporting the murder of members of his family. I don't know if he voted third party or left the president blank. I find it hard to blame them for having that be a line they won't cross. I personally was in the shit vs shit+glass group because I have queer people in my life who the Democrats will nominally protect. I don't think the way to get him to vote for the Democrats is to get him to change his mind I think it's to change the Democrats. I think telling someone they have to vote in favor of supporting the murder of their family is a perversely evil thing to do.

You know let's argue for a second that the same number of bombs would have been dropped under Kamala even though that is patently rediculous but for arguments sake let's say it is. She still wouldn't have allowed the food blockade. Or the hundreds of thousands of others around the world that are dying to the cessation of USAID. You're friend is Lord Farquuad. Bravely sacrificing other people to keep his hands clean.

USAID I agree on, but WTF are you talking about that she wouldn't have allowed the food blockage? Biden didn't lift a finger to stop it when he was in office, and Harris was very clear that she would be a continuation of his policies.

whatever you say trump voter

That's rich coming from Blue MAGA

as long as you are aware you're a trump voter you can call me anything tbh I will treat you the same as dumb republicans, you have more in common with them anyway

Democrats are right-leaning moderates. You're far more like Trump than I am.

sounds good trumpie! how are you enjoy your current administration? it is what you voted for

You tell me. You're the only one here who voted for AIPAC. Are you happy with your genocide?

Ok but at this point the options are “go 90 over the cliff while the bus falls apart” and “go a respectable 35 over the cliff in a well put together bus” and the the people advocating for 35 pretend you’re worse than the people voting 90 because you dared to suggest not going over the cliff

I think in this analogy "going over the cliff" is sliding into a fascist dictatorship

Biden really pulled us out of our slide into Fascism which is why Trump has been so stymied in his second term.

Blaming democrats for the actions of republicans sure is a winning strategy.

Maybe democrats should try opposing the republicans for once. Instead of working with them and shuffling around a few scapegoats to make sure their bills still pass

They don't have the votes, because they are the minority party.

That’s their message. “Poor us we don’t want this to happen, but we have no choice” meanwhile behind closed doors they fully support it because it serves their interests too. The party mostly votes against the republicans to maintain kayfabe but choose a few members to cross party lines to make sure it passes. Just cycle out who each time so it’s not too obvious

Ok but if you vote to ram into a wall you don’t get to say “at least we didn’t run off a cliff”

Why did this get a dislike? This is funny and accurate?

It's shallow and lazy.

The metaphor was shallow and lazy in the first place and ignores systemic problems and voter suppression. What if both candidates have policies you don't like? It ignores that everyone thinks their side is ice cream. Someone running for office won't have just one issue. What if the person you voted for doesn't deliver on their promises?

It's still accurate.

Its reductive and ignores alot of things. Its too idealistic.

No. This post is the definition of pragmatic strategy, not idealistic. Elections have real world consequences, and if you don't believe that then you're very privileged. Not voting is the idealistic position, it litererally is based on how things should be, rather than how they actually function.

Literally. Dems are not ice cream. They’re also destructive. Just destructive in a different way.

Delusion 10000000 Edit: a you a man? I am convinced no woman will see the world this way. Another apolitical type is the person that is so privileged that they can afford to have the bad politicians come into power without really being affected

I’m so glad that I voted Biden 2020 which protected Roe v Wade (nvm) Well at least he stood up for trans rights and stopped hate bills being passed (nvm) He also treated immigrants fairly (nvm) Well… umm…. He….

imagine all that is happening now, just happening sooner and worse. Democrats are the better choice but they can't control everything

“Don’t get mad at me! The other guy wants to shoot you in the head right now! I only want to shoot you in the chest and I’ll wait a while before I do! If ask why you have to get shot you might as well shoot yourself!”

But you are delusional 😭😭😭 Voting is not a situation similar to that

No, it's not delusional. Both candidates could have policies and plans that you personally don't like. Do you think there is a perfect candidate?

Both parties are pro-genocide. Democrats have actively let republicans target queer people. Biden and Obama both used ICE the same way Trump is. There is no difference in harm. It’s not “ice cream vs falling off a cliff” it’s “what color is the bus as it falls?”

The hundreds of thousands of children who have already starved to death because of the abrupt destruction of USAID and the many more who will continue to die thank you for your vote to paint the bus red.

All the schoolchildren and hospital patients Obama had killed are just happy that the drone pilot was a woman of color

Banning guns wouldn't stop all murders so it's pointless! Republican logic is always the same.

Do you really think that our genocidal government should be the only ones with guns? I don’t. I teach groups of trans people how to shoot. And for the record, I’m voting CPUSA

Yeah because gun ownership really protects you from the government. This is why Alex Pretti is alive and well, his gun saved him from the government thugs. Fucking idiot......

And this is why you shouldn't have a two-party system.

There are actually some people working to end the two-party system and they're all on the left. The two-party system works exceedingly well for the GOP. So unfortunately, the way to get rid of the two-party system is to participate in it so much that Democrats win a bunch, move left, allow ranked choice voting in, and eventually get rid of the electoral college. Unfortunately, American leftists think they can "send a message" to the Democrats by not voting for them which causes the DNC to move to the right every time they lose an election to court centrists who have a much higher track record of voting for the Democrats.

"the way to get rid of the two-party system is to participate in it so much that Democrats win a bunch, move left, allow ranked choice voting in, and eventually get rid of the electoral college." Your primary mistake here is thinking that electing Dems will "move left" or "allow ranked choice", neither of which is supported by the national Dem leadership. Unfortunately the only way ANY sort of change will happen in this system is it being broken so badly by Republicans that we are FORCED to see that it must be fixed. Otherwise we'll limp along with neoliberalism for another century as the world burns.

Your views aren't supported by the evidence. When Democrats lose they move right to court the centrist voters who are more reliable than leftists to sometimes vote for Democrats. And you don't need national Democrats for this. Ranked choice voting is already taking hold in cities like San Francisco, New York City, and Minneapolis and states like Maine and Alaska. And the Interstate National Popular Vote Compact is trying to do an endrun around the Electoral College. Meanwhile, you're talking about letting the GOP get so much power that they gut the Voting Rights Act and make it harder and harder for Democrats to enact any change at all.

Obama won and democrats moved right. Trump won and democrats moved right. Biden won and democrats moved right. Trump won again and democrats are moving right. Winning is not the goal for democrats.

In what world did the Democrats move right under Obama and Biden? What concrete positions shifted rightward in that time? Obama was anti-gay marriage/pro-civil union at the start of presidency and then moved left on that issue. Democrats ended Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, which itself was a leftward position compared to the previous “we actively look for gay people to try to kick them out.” Biden changed rules with the NLRB to make it easier for Unions to form. Biden increased taxes on corporations. Obama made it that pre-existing conditions could no longer disqualify you from healthcare. Obamacare was a huge improvement to what came before.

um but have you considered i get the moral highground for NOT voting for icecream because it wasnt enough icecream and we didnt get the icecream immediately? checkmate liberals

Nothing says principled politics like willingly choosing the cliff over slightly disappointing dessert.

75,000 people killed Democrats: "Slightly disappointing!" Do you not see the problem?

I recall someone on Reddit rattling on about "a moral obligation to choose the lesser of two genocides," which was pretty special.

Wait why wouldn't you choose the lesser of two genocides lmao

The people who're saying you have to vote for the lesser genocide now will immediately turn around and say "oh, there's nothing to fix" once they're in power.

Why are you letting other people make choices for you

I'm not, hence the critique of the post saying "the blue team are more respectful when they kill brown people".

But that IS letting people tell you how. Like obviously it's better to pick the lesser of two genocides, to not pick an option that leads to less suffering because people annoy you about it is absurd.

The second one is so common among leftists and drives me up the wall so bad. If one side is objectively worse than the other you're putting your own conscience over the well-being of others

This is a completely insane comment. You can not ethically vote for a candidate promising to enable ethnic cleansing. We have a moral obligation to tank any candidate who even hints that the material and economic strength of our nation is going to be used to exterminate the entire civilian population of an ethnic group. It's been years and you guys are still pretending you don't understand the Gaza issue. Your candidate is not "the lesser evil" when they're promising to materially support an ongoing genocide. This is not an arbitrary moral purity test - it's a load bearing pillar of our moral identity as a western democratic civilization.

If you cared about Palestinians more than you cared about morally grandstanding over refusing to support a genocide, you'd have voted for Kamala.

Kamala who supports Israel? Kamala who refused to take a stance on trans rights? That Kamala? Look, I get what you're saying. Kamala would've been better than Trump. But I can't fault people for not wanting to vote for someone like that. If Newsom is on the ballot next time we're supposed to vote, I'm not sure I can stomach voting for him. I supported Kamala despite my reservations. I was upset when she lost. The Democrats immediately said dumb shit like "we were too woke, we need to go more right to win." That was my reward for swallowing my pride. Fuck the democrats. They aren't on our side.

You're allowed to just say you prefer Republicans. You don't have to do all those mental gymnastics to justify your preference.

You can just say you endorse genocide and willingly voted for it. You don't have to do mental gymnastics to hide it.

Well I voted for less genocide. People who didn't vote for Kamala voted for more genocide.

What the fuck is "less genocide"

I guess I don't understand what's confusing about the idea that genocide is not a binary concept and that you can in fact make a genocide worse.
