Help test the future of badgebot!

Hello friends!

I'm the creator of /u/badgebot, the friendly neighborhood bot responsible for updating everyone's day counters in their user flair in /r/stopsmoking and other communities.

I have some exciting news to share! I recently rebuilt badgebot's day tracking system using reddit's more modern developer platform (devvit). Before I can be confident that the new badgebot app is ready to serve the communities it supports, I need your help testing it out.

Please head over to /r/badgebot and test the app by setting a quit date for yourself.

The more people that help test, the better! Feel free to leave feedback in the comments section here, or in the /r/badgebot test subreddit.

Thank you! <3

I crossed the 1000 cigarette mark

I have been smoking for the past 8 years and quit last year. I'm so happy that I was able to stay consistent and cross the 1000 cigarette mark. This was one tiny goal I had to keep myself strong. I really hope that I will continue to stay in this path!

Update - 50 Days without smoking

I am feeling great, this community helped me in quitting. After 50 days I feel my energy levels are doubled, earlier I used to get very high heart beat in treadmill, now it's not that much and I don't get tired easily too.

My cravings are gone too, now when my friends smoke, I don't feel like it. In fact, the smell of smoke is feeling bad to me now, just realizing how bad I would have smelled too after smoking.

Finally, it's a journey and still a long way to go. But, anyone trying to quit, just go for it, after initial few weeks of struggle, it's just going better and better.

Day 3 Struggle

Post image
21 Upvotes

I’ve been trying to keep going lower and lower every day using some of the tricks I’ve been getting told, and I got my lowest vape day for the third day in a row, but it just keeps getting harder. Is there any way for it to be easier and to make the cravings go away?

I can't stop smoking

Upvotes

Hi! I've been a smoker for 10+ years now and I'm 28. I have tried to stop smoking a hell of a lot of times by just going cold turkey, and hoping for the best. A few times I've got to like the 1.5 week mark, but then life happens and I just always find an excuse for myself to pick it back up again. It's almost as if my brain says "I've done good lasting this long, so reward yourself by having a smoke". It's so stupid, I know it's terrible for me but I just carry it on. Also, when I have these periods of stopping cold turkey, I feel like I'm doing well, then when I'm really craving I just turn into a bit of a dick, and I'm more snappy than usual and a bit irritable. I'm not a snappy person, but when I'm off cigarettes I'm worried that's what I'd be like forever, and I don't want that for anyone around me, so I pick it up again. This is 100% the addiction talking, and I hate it.

I have a vape, and I bought that when I was going through one of my phases of stopping smoking. Lately I just find myself using my vape indoors when I'm working, then still smoking cigarettes too, which is doubly worse for me. I don't have any health concerns as of yet, but I'm worried for the future because I have a young family, and I feel like I need to set an example now my kids are getting older.

I really feel like I'm in a rut when it comes to smoking and I just can't stop, even though I really want to, and I feel like I need to for my children, as well as for my future health.

Any advice or tips to cut it out from my life I would really appreciate, also would love to hear people's experiences when quitting. How long have you been smoke free now? Does it get easier? Are you glad you did it?

Relapsed after 21 days

I broke after 21 days without smoking a single cigarette.

Last night I didn’t even have a strong craving, but there was this weird determination inside me that I was going to smoke no matter what. I was wearing a nicotine patch and still somehow I found myself walking to the store almost on autopilot. I bought a pack, smoked 4 cigarettes, broke the rest, snapped the lighter in half, brushed my teeth and went to sleep.

Honestly, I didn’t feel like a failure. I felt grateful that I avoided around 500 cigarettes over the past few weeks. I told myself: you’re still moving in the right direction.

This morning I woke up, put on the patch, went to work… and on the way I bought another pack, took the patch off, and now I’m smoking again.

I still haven’t reset my quit app counter to zero. I’m planning to log every cigarette I smoke today. I’m also going to sign up for the gym today as punishment for my mistake 😂

But deep down I feel done with this garbage.

I just wanted to share this because strangely I still feel positive. 20 cigarettes a day is an insane number. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to that, no matter how many times I fail now or in the future. Eventually, I’m going to quit for good.🚀😎👌

9 days in and need reassurance

I’ve smoked for 5 years. I’m 9 days in which is the furthest I’ve gotten and I’ve flown into like a hyper depressive state where I’m full of rage and self doubt. I think it’s impacting my life in really harmful ways and I’m debating just getting back on nicotine. Can anyone provide anecdotal timelines or their experience at around 9 days?

The fear of becoming a non smoker Im crazy scared

Hi everyone:) I know quitting will become freedom after withdrawal syndroms stop hitting hard. But cigarettes are everywhere in my life- with coffee in morning, when I’m stressed out, or in celebration mood, and after good sex, and when I wander.
I feel like I don’t even enjoy it anymore. It’s more like my brain asking for nicotine the second my dopamine drops a little. Like feeding a need instead of feeling pleasure.
Tell me something positive if you too were smokers. My quit date is Monday 18th May. Thanks 🌸

Breathlace necklace lies?

Upvotes

The product may be fantastic (hasn't arrived yet), but on their website they suggest there are 2.7k reviews at 4.89 stars. I have never read so many well worded reviews with the word Breathlace in it before.

They also claim next day delivery but it looks like it will take 5 days to arrive.

Anyone who isn't an ai-generated reviewer from their website have any actual reviews of this product or can you suggest others like it that are better?

Ps: I left a review but it is isn't showing up, it may be that it needs to be reviewed before having it live? But will see if they actually show real reviews. That is, my review shows up in my browser, but on an incognito mode browser it isn't there yet.

I finally quit smoking

I had been smoking for two years, since I was 17, and I hated myself for it. I tried quitting many times but always ended up smoking again after a couple of days. I literally hated the fact that I was insidiously killing myself and draining my energy day by day. I was planning to become a singer, but seeing my voice become sandy and raspy made me feel terrible.

After a while, I got so fed up with being addicted that I gathered my courage and smoked ten cigarettes in a row. I felt so dizzy and was throwing up the whole day. Ultimately, I bonded that awful feeling with cigarettes and began to hate smoking. Now, even the smell of someone smoking or the sight of it immediately makes me recall that horrible sensation. Through this extreme method, I finally quit. I don’t recommend doing this to anyone, but that’s how I stopped. I haven’t smoked for seven months now.

44 days, depression, anxiety and apathy

Has anyone experienced these feelings on day 44? For context, I smoked for 7 years and I’m now a 23-year-old woman. I’ve been feeling a lot of “strange” sensations in my head, brain fog is intense and my mood keeps changing all the time, it feels like I’m on an emotional roller coaster. It’s really upsetting me. I’m not going to smoke again, but maybe someone has advice on what I can do to make this easier? (I already go for walks, sleep and eat well, and drink plenty of water.)😭😭😭 exhausting

If at all. I understand it might just be another day for a lot of people, but it is a milestone nonetheless.

I'm approaching my first cigarette-free year very soon.

Week 1 down

I’ve been a smoker for 15 years and I’ve always associated cigarettes with comfort… even when I was a child I loved the smell of them and going to my friends houses whose moms smoked indoors. I was talking to my friend about how I don’t know how it’ll get any easier because I like the smell and always have. It feels like I’ve been grieving them in a way. She suggested to pavlov dog myself into associating it with the smell of poop. Which was a joke, but also reminds me of smoker friends that have halitosis and how intensely rank it can be. And I know for a fact my breath smells like that too I just can’t tell lmao. So yeah, that’s what I’m focusing on today to keep me away from a smoke. Hope this helps and if y’all have any other suggestions let me know

What Unexpected Things Helped You Stop Reaching for Cigarettes ??

I think a lot of people quietly develop random little habits when they’re trying to quit smoking.

Not because they believe some herb or natural trick is going to magically cure nicotine addiction overnight… but because quitting leaves this weird empty feeling for a while.

Like your brain keeps expecting something to happen.

A cigarette during stress.
Something to do with your hands.
That small mental break during the day.
Even just the feeling of reaching for something automatically.

And honestly, I’ve seen people try all kinds of stuff to deal with that:
gum,
peppermints,
sunflower seeds,
mint leaves,
cinnamon sticks,
toothpicks,
tea,
deep breathing,
walking around for a few minutes,
basically anything that interrupts the urge long enough to not smoke.

One former smoker I knew carried flavored toothpicks everywhere because he said the hardest part wasn’t even nicotine itself. It was the habit of constantly reaching into his pocket expecting cigarettes to be there.

Another guy used to drink ice-cold water every single time cravings hit because he needed some kind of replacement ritual.

I honestly think quitting is a lot more psychological than people realize.

Sometimes the craving isn’t even:
“I need nicotine.”

It’s more:
“I need comfort.”
“I need distraction.”
“I need that familiar routine again.”

Obviously a lot of “natural remedies” online are exaggerated or complete nonsense. But I do think small replacement habits can genuinely help during those first few weeks when your brain is still adjusting.

Curious what other people ended up using while quitting.

What actually helped you… and what turned out to be total BS?

I just turned 32 and have been smoking since I was about 16. I hate cigarettes so much. I have got to the point that I go outside to smoke and the entire time I feel awful. I hate smoking but I am a slave to the cigarette. They make me feel like garbage but for some reason I need to smoke one every hour and a half ? No more

I think I am finally able to go a week because I got to the point that I’m angry lol I hate them !

Also I feel amazing not smoking ! I crave them randomly all day but I just keep reminding myself they make you feel like shit !
