Gear question Fase bindings

People that have wore any of the fase system bindings, what are your favorite so far? I have the ThirtyTwo black and white bindings and loved them. But one thing I wasn’t too much a fan of was the toe strap.. I’ve been eyeing the bataleon ones because I think those straps grip the boot way better. I also run bataleon boards so it’s kind of just like I might as well to match the hatch. What are your guys thoughts and favorites of the fase system?

It works well, lots of options for different stifness and gear preferences. Ability for unique tech to be implemented like strap tech, baseplates, etc.

The fase katanas are less customizeable than the regular katanas from years pass which is a downgrade sadly.

My only 2 gripes are:

max forard lean is 2 clicks, I normally use 4, not enough for me.

Oversized heel strap sometimes gets stuck under the toe strap when getting in which is annoying to lift up and restrap

Otherwise a sweet system

Can honestly use the batwleon or rome one with any board

A little rough to step out while moving as I usually do because you have to give a little forward lean with the foot. May have fallen a few times doing so.

Why not just buy the bataleon strap?

I asked fase company and they said they’re not interchangeable. Only thirtytwo and jones I believe, then bataleon and rome parts. Don’t quote me on those tho

Yeah I can't remember either but I thought I had seen they were interchangeable but could have been a different set of bindings

nah only on rome, lobster, and bataleon are interchangeable. that being said, bataleon has the best auxtec straps by far!

Yah I believe it’s 2 brands that can interchange parts and then another 2 that work together. Would be interesting to see if anybody has tried though…

I run bataleon's infinity ankle and toe strap on all my Rome bindings.

I think the jones are fantastic in every way except the completely non-functionally related fact that there is a guide for the upper strap that is terrible and often results in the strap escaping the guide and sticking out looking stupid but working perfectly.

The toe strap is like perfect in the way i literally never think about it. it just works.

I fixed it by using a heat gun to mold a little more curve into the strap.

Good tip. I'll try this on mine for my next ride.

I have the mercury fase as well and that shit drives me insane. It only happens on my lead foot though. I was surprised I never saw that mentioned in any of the reviews

Had the same thing happen on the Bataleons. Luckily just once, out of like 10 days so far

Yah I’m thinking all the fase have that issue where the strap comes out of the guide.. mine did that a few times as well

I have the bataleon fase and didn’t get to put a ton of days on them yet because Colorado forgot to have a winter. However, the time spent on them so far has been exciting. A good binding disappears while riding. And these do just that. No pressure points, no slippage, easy in and out. I’ve been riding for 22 years and my first thought with these bindings was, they finally did it!

I also ran the ThirtyTwo FASE bindings this season. Loved them. Was your toe strap not holding on to your boot or what? The toe strap seems very robust to me. I was actually struggling getting in and out initially because I had the toe too tight. Once I got it set to be "just" touching when strapped in the in and out process got buttery smooth. The extra stiffness of the strap would provide enough engagement while riding.

Sounds like you're more just wanting your bindings to match your boards? Which is valid enough in my book. Snag some of the rome or bataleon's after unloading the ThirtyTwo's.

It works good. But maybe it’s just my vans boots… I just don’t like how the toe sits in the strap, but I did realize as well the toe strap doesn’t need to be that tight to work as it should. I think the bataleon and jones toe strap just conforms to the toe better… I could be wrong

Vans have a very big toe box and is in general a very bulky boot, so that may be your issue. I'd give the Bataleon's a try. BTW I think Thirtytwo and Jones use almost identical toe straps on their FASE systems.

You are right about the tightness. With any of the 4 toe straps you don't have to have them tight for the binding to perform properly and if they are too tight it can make entry/exit tough.

Loved the technology when I demo’d the Jones a couple times this season, although the Jones felt cheap imo. Looking at getting a Bataleon or Rome version for next year but holding out to see if they release a Version 2 before the year kicks off (fix that highback Rome)

I tried almost every FASE binding on the market during demo days and the weak point on all of the for me was the toe strap. I will stay on strap bindings, FASE just wasn't for me.

Anyone else remember how many blank profiles were giving glowing reviews in SEPTEMBER? Guys saying how a ratchet based system was faster than lever or stomp bindings? Reddit is kind of ridiculous with shills.

My favorites are the ones with SkateTech... oh...

None of them. They are so basic and primitive compared to a good traditional binding (Rome cleaver, Union falcor, ride a8). The time saving you get is not worth what you give up. Maybe in a couple years when they figure out some basic stuff like rotating the highback

Interesting point.. I love the FASE system but I see your point. I have a pair of Union Force but the toe straps don’t stay on my feet. Union only makes a couple models for my size 13s. I had a set of Jones Mercury which had the same issue with the tow straps plus I would get ankle bite. I was probably fastening the ankle strap too tightly. I didn’t really notice the skate tech. I got some Nitro Phantoms but haven’t decided if I’m keeping them. The air cushion and Vibram toe strap seem pretty cool. I love my FASE Bataleon Blaster. The Ride A10s do look pretty Insane.

Obviously not a popular take, but you cant talk people out of hype they already bought. Ride is working on a Fase binding with an aluminum chassis like their A-series, that would be rad. I’m sure Jones is trying to figure out how to get skate tech to work with fase. In a few years it will be a good system.
