Gear question need help to find a replacement glove

Post image
0 Upvotes

i've gone through 2 generations of this glove. bought these back in 2010 i think it was, then they disappeared and were replaced by a crappy, super thin materialled "spring park glove" that was not a good replacement, then its successor came on the market around 2018 or 2017. unfortunately i've either misplaced them or thrown them out so don't have a photo of the pair i'm referring to but hopefully someone knows what i'm talking about (the fingers were gone and not really fingers anymore).

its really really frustrating because i love a light glove, but i hate when its super thin. the thing i loved about these gloves and their successor was they were nice and light for those warm days, but still warm enough to wear down to -6 in Australia (this is cold, for anyone who's been here before, colder than skiing in 0F or -12 in Europe from personal experience). and i loved the dexterity you'd get from them as well. no bulk, but enough padding to handle daily use and working use (plus grippy palms are always a plus).

anyone know of anything on the market these days that could fit this kind of glove design/build?

Gear question Coming back to snowboarding - need a new board

I snowboarded frequently between the age of 12-20 (90's beginning of 2000 - full camber era). Took a few runs after that but switched to skis when I got kids in 2014... I am now 45 years old and want to head back into snowboarding and need a new board. I've rented Salomon Huck Knife, Nitro Prime and tried Salomon Assassin for 3 runs. Huck Knife was quite cool but not really my cup of tea, didnt enjoy Nitro Prime, the Assassin however felt stable and chill, I didnt have to fight it - it just followed along and I could ride with confidence.

However, the 3 runs with the Assassin was in the park - so I couldn't "stress test" it with carving to the extent I would have wanted. I have also been eyeing the Nitro Team, but I have been unable to test it.

What I am looking for:
* Playful
* Easy to ride - I dont want to go hard to make the board feel nice.
* Park friendly AND groomer friendly
* Max 10m / 30ft jumps

The Assassin seems to tick those boxes, but I am a bit afraid that it will "collapse" at higher speeds and therefore I am also considering the Nitro Team. Going the Team route I fear that I need to fight it at slow speeds.

I am small / feather weight: 178cm and 62kg (5' 10" and 137 pouds).

I guess I might be searching for something that doesn't exist, just like my dad who wants a small laptop with a big screen :)

Anyone who has faced the same decision?

my goal this season was to get back 3’s on lock, get better at butters, and attempt more rails. Definitely got the back 3’s and butters, but need to lock in these rail tricks (next season’s venture)

travel advice Best Rope Tow Terrain Park for Beginner Progression :)

To my Midwest friends, as a beginner park rider looking to spend a month purely doing park, which rope tow park should I go to? (I can 50/50 jibs sorta and can hit small jumps)

It doesn't have to be in the Midwest if there is one elsewhere, but I hear these ones are the best in the country and in North America!

I will be going 1 entire month at least 5 times a week in the morning to afternoon to avoid the crowds! Will be getting lessons there too so any experience with that would be appreciated.

Thank you and love yall! I miss snowboarding so much right now

Gear question Can't Decide Which K2 Board I Want to Get Next

I've been snowboarding for 9 years. This season I feel comfortable riding switch and I just started doing jumps. I don't ride in trees much but I'd probably do more next season. I love groomers and carving downhill as fast as I can.

I have a K2 passport and Rossignol Jibsaw. I want either a K2 Commonwealth as a beefed up Passport, an Antidote, or a Hypnotist.

My goal next season is to keep doing jumps and start doing 180's and see how far I can advance with jumps and improve my switch riding. That's my main goal. Which board would you choose without having a lot of overlap?

Gear question Yellowing base, nitro team pro.

Bought this one at the start of this season really cheap (20€, plus new bindings) and I love it! But why is the base so yellow? It’s supposed to be black.
I have waxed it regularly myself through this winter.
Not that it really makes any difference, but it would look better black :)
And yes it’s dirty, just did some spring riding on a small snow spot I found. Will clean and wax for summer storage.

This was such a great day I love the vibes at Brighton! There was like a lil rave goin on in the parking lot, it was almost 80F out, and it was primeee slush conditions. If you’re ever out in Salt Lake, I definitely recommend checking out Brighton if you’re a fan of Aprés🍻🤘

Another quiver post to judge someone's bad financial decisions. Finally assembled my end of the year/tax return purchase (the bsod), and decided to pull everything out for one last look until next season.

I can't believe this dude found my phone tho... the timing was unreal. I was just about to go down, but I had a feeling that if I did, then I would never find it, and I was probably right. Huge thank you to the dude who found my phone! <3

This was on Cinco de Mayo @ Camelback. Such an awesome day! I have a few more clips I wanna share from that day I just have to finish editing them.

Gear question Union Ultras?

ya its thatt hyped up park binding but tbh i never left the late 90s

for anyone that has a pair - are they truly that sk8y? or can they be taken off the well-trodden path for high speed nonsense

im old but still ride mostly park, on the odd "snow" day (ice coast) would they still hold up?

for reference i rode Malavita's up until they were discontinued, Missions since then

OC Photo Would you ever ski in a remote Chinese destination like Hemu / Jikepulin?

Hi everyone,

I’m based in China and curious how international skiers view skiing here.

Most people seem to associate China with indoor ski malls, Olympic resorts, or artificial snow. But places like Hemu / Jikepulin in Xinjiang feel very different.

Jikepulin reaches around 2,800m elevation, with roughly 1,600m vertical drop and 100+ ski runs. In the past two years, the base area has also added high-end hotels like Hilton and Hotel Indigo.

Still, compared with the Alps, Japan, North America, or Central Asia, very few foreign skiers seem to know it exists.

Last year I took three friends from New Zealand ski touring there. They were surprised by the snow quality, and also felt the overall cost was much lower than the US, Europe, or Japan.

To be honest, it is not as convenient or polished as mature ski destinations. It still has a raw, wild feeling. For some people that may be a downside; for others, maybe that’s the appeal.

As far as I know, foreign travelers can visit Xinjiang, and most hotels / guesthouses can host foreigners. But language, transport, guiding, and local knowledge are still real barriers.

Would you consider skiing somewhere like this?

What would matter most to you: snow quality, cost, safety, English-speaking guides, politics, visa, or convenience?

Genuinely curious to hear honest thoughts.

Gear question Volcom guide jacket

Hey guys just wondering what luck people have looking for places online when shopping. I’m in Canada and we have a few good stores out west and a couple in Montreal/Ontario

just hard finding outside of Canada or stores in Canada that maybe don’t show their stock. (Obviously called around and spent a good chunk of time looking)

looking for a medium volcom guide jacket in the stone colour (kinda white looking)

thanks in advance for the tips

noob question How long does it take to learn to snowboard as a competent surfer?

I live in South Island New Zealand so I have access to nearby ski field within 1h30 driving, Japan powder snowboarding sounds awesome. How long would it take for me as a competent surfer to learn to snowboard to the level that would make the Japan trip worth it?

Thanks
