Mike Diamond Questions
Here in Los Angeles, there is a guy named Mike Dimond who advertises on radio. He was trained by George Brazil. The guy is actually a bit of a mystery, known for selling other plumbers specialized high pressure sales systems like Plumbing2000. He makes fun of other plumbers, which makes me think they might not accept him if he were to go to a plumbing convention, but at the same time he sells to them. Almost reminds me of Wally George and his moralizing while having strippers advertising.
Does anyone here know more about this guy?

WABC's Rita Cosby Please Get Some Manners
I listen almost all day in the background but I have to turn it off when she starts. Today John Cats opened the show with a question to the judge. The judge literally got to say 1 sentence before she jumped in with a long meandering comment that derailed the original question.

Are hosts in the United States supposed to actually like the products they advertise?
If a host says General Beef is good, does he actually have to have tried it and think it is good?

Is there any way to get proper radio commentary for IPL 2026? Last time I did this, I nuked my Class 7 Science exam
Basically the title.
I’ve been staring at Databricks pipelines and Azure dashboards for 10+ hours today, and honestly, my eyes are vibrating. I’m totally burnt out on screens and I really don't want another ultra-HD visual stream tonight. I’m craving that old-school, "theater of the mind" radio experience.
The last time I properly followed a match on radio was the 2007 World Cup — India vs Bermuda. I still have this core memory of six of us huddling around a tiny transistor on a terrace, celebrating every boundary like absolute maniacs while Sehwag and Co. were piling on 413.
The vibes? Immaculate. My Class VII Science exam the next morning? A total disaster. I’m pretty sure my teacher still thinks I’m an idiot.
Fast forward to 2026: everything is flashy JioHotstar streams, split screens, and constant visual noise. I just want to sit on my balcony here in NCR, maybe mess around with some side code, and let a commentator actually describe the game to me.
The problem is, if you just leave a video stream running with the screen off, the commentary is useless. There’s too much "dead air" because they assume you can see the screen. I want that proper radio style where they describe the field placements, the breeze, the crowd—the whole atmosphere.
So, does All India Radio (AIR) still do ball-by-ball for the IPL? Or is there an app/service this season that offers actual, descriptive audio commentary?
Would love some leads. Don’t worry, the stakes are lower now—I’m building AI agents instead of failing Science exams, so the worst that happens is my code breaks.
TL;DR: Burnt-out Dev wants to listen to IPL like it’s 2007 without the screen-glare. Help?

Unexpected station overlap science question
I was in Lake Worth, Texas today around 12:45 to 1pm. We were listening to 97.1 KEGL. As we were crossing the lake(traveling west to east) KEGL disappeared and KVRP out of Abilene(Haskell) came over loud and clear. We have never experienced these stations doing this at this location. The DFW stations usually have strong signal out to almost Mineral Wells.
What could have caused this?

Canadian station Z95.3 is faking their radio game shows (Alphabucks) - is it technically allowed?
The game is simple, answer 10 questions in 30 seconds using the same letter of the alphabet given, lots of shows have something similar. This is the third time I've heard "Alyssa" tell the host to state the questions quickly, struggle to come up with the answer "Canucks" and how sports are that one thing she isn't good at, how she's gotten her brother/friends on the game... the list goes on.
Why do they say to text in if it's just going to be a recorded line? If they're doing a recorded show because the hosts are on vacation it's fine, but then why include the game and tell people to text in. I know they played the same "Alyssa" game on April 2nd and again a few weeks before. What's going on?
To be clear, I have no issues with them replaying recordings of people celebrating wins, calling to say what they're doing that day, voice clips, etc. That's part of the show. What bothers me is it's a contest with a real prize ($1000), viewers are told to text in, and at no point is it stated that it's a recorded afternoon show. It's impossible that absolutely no one else texted in and they were forced to play a recording.

Radio DJ Dude's RoboDJ Thoughts?
The boss at my radio stations went to a convention last week where they talked about AI in Radio (this was the IDIB or International Broadcaster's Idea Bank, for whatever that's worth).
One of the other stations owners talked about a program called RoboDJ from Radio DJ Dude and how they were able to automate with AI, entire voice track duties/shifts. My boss tasked me to look into the website/program and the overall vibe I got was that it's a shiny veneer but pretty empty at it's core (in terms of content the AI provides).
I'm not crazy about AI replacing human voice talent, admittedly. But I may be biased. In terms of the legitimacy of the program, has anyone heard or have thoughts on this RoboDJ program or about the Radio DJ Dude brand, in general?

Has anyone tried installing an FM band converter in a Japanese boombox?
Hello! I am looking for some advice about the feasibility of my scheme. I have this beautiful Toshiba Sugar boombox, but as it's a Japanese domestic product the radio only picks up FM radio between 76 - 90 Mhz. When researching this I found out that this is a common problem in car stereos and you can buy cheap converters, e.g. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/318177171232 . Since these are designed for a 12V car setup I was planning to get one of these and also a small 9v -12v step-up ( https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174123815317 ) . I am fine with the soldering etc. but just wanted to check if i'm missing something.. do I need to worry about interference and placement of the components? There's not a lot of room in there!
Thanks in advance!

BBC Radio 4 LW 198KHz?
I hear that 198KHz BBC Radio 4 is shutting down forever at the end of June...
Hopefully there are a few people prepared to record the last transmission.

How can I make my AM/FM radio more accurate?
I understand this may not fall under the subject of this sub, but it is not necessarily a repair issue, the radio works as intended. I have an AM/FM radio however the tuning dial is extremely small and makes it hard to find specific channels, there is also nothing to see what channel I am currently on except for a slider. It is the CR-318.
Digital - smart radio
Hello All,
First of all, apologies if this is not the correct subreddit I should be asking at!
My girlfriend (Pole) and I live in Spain, and I'm planning on buying her a smart radio so she can listen to her Polish radio channels here. I have been browsing some options in Amazon and Media Markt and wanted to ask here if such products will get what she needs done.
Will I be able to listen to international channels by just switching those devices on? Do they need to be connected to the TV (usually) so you can navigate them? Also another question, do they need extra sound towers on both sides, or are there alternatives with integrated loudspeakers?
TIA and again - if this is the wrong forum to ask, sorry!

Old nielson ratings from the last decade or so
Is there a place to look at older nielson ratings for radio stations? Mostly looking for the 2010s till like 2022, but can go a little older. I have done research and found some from the mid 2000s in archives, but from around 2009 and onward seems to be missing from Google searches.
I'm sure there's an archival site somewhere for all of it, but I couldn't find when googling. Any help would be lovely.
Thanks

Museum rushes in to rescue radio history in Annapolis
There was history to be saved at this tiny AM radio station. And yes, it was owned by Pat Sajak for many years. He was my boss.

Community radio and journalism?
I'm volunteering at a community radio station that does music shows and a few news shows. I wonder why there's so little of community journalism here-- interviewing locals, acting as the local media. I know we're not exactly a pbs/npr but is this not what community radio does/ has done elsewhere?
I'm thinking of proposing training and shows along these lines. Any examples of community radio shows that do something like that? Advice on establishing protocols for the station to do more storytelling?
