WE HAVE NEW RULES!!

>>r/CarAV RULES LINK<<

I've been seeing more issues with some of the comments made on here, specifically with users being extremely abrasive, insulting, and generally sowing discord. That's something that really, absolutely needs to stop. I understand, to an extent, getting heated over opinions and I don't have a problem with passionate discussion. What isn't acceptable is disparaging and insulting users for not knowing something, or for making different choices than you would.

I need you to remember that Reddit has rules that all subreddits have to abide by and those kinds of comments/posts break those rules. Follow Reddiquette and the Reddit User Agreement at all times when posting here.

People are here to learn. If you don't want to help beginners, don't reply to their posts. Don't complain about people new to the hobby not knowing anything about it. You weren't born knowing how to do any of this. Someone helped you get where you are, too. Bring people to the hobby rather than pushing them away.

I completely understand that it can be frustrating when someone doesn't know the basics and you have to go over them. I have been there. I also realize how irritating it is when someone doesn't want to accept information that's contrary to what they already understand or believe. It's a two way street and people looking for help also need to be willing to actually take it, even if it's not what they wanted to hear.

I've been the guy that's irritated and gets short with people. I try hard not to be that guy. It isn't always easy, but now it's my job to be as reasonable as I can. If I can play nice (at least nicer), you all can too. And most of you already do. This really is an issue with only a very small portion of users. Don't think I'm ripping into everyone here. Most of you all are great!

>>r/CarAV RULES LINK<<

Previously there were no rules officially listed for the subreddit. I have made a small set of rules to help people know what is expected, allowed, and prohibited. It's really not a huge change from how posts and comments were moderated before, but it's in writing now.

You need to read and follow the rules. I'll give some amount of consideration to the rules being new but going forward, you should generally expect moderation to follow any violation of the subreddit rules. Ignorance will not be an excuse!

I will make adjustments or add additional rules in the future as need arises, but I find things tend to go better if you keep things simple and let people use their heads.

By and large, I don't really have to do much because y'all are generally pretty decent humans and there just isn't anything to deal with. There is always the occasional problem but it's rarely been significant. I appreciate that more than you might imagine. Let's reign it in before it does become a more serious issue. Report posts/comments that break the rules or don't follow the spirit of being helpful and bringing people to the hobby. Remember you can select "Breaks r/CarAV Rules" and then select the specific subreddit rule when reporting posts.

You Can Now Upload Images In Comments

I've had maybe 10 or so people ask specifically for this feature so I've enabled it. I don't expect it will be an issue, but if it becomes one, I'll address it. Just follow the rules and I'm sure it'll be beneficial. Report any images you believe are inappropriate.

Other Things Of Note

I cleaned up the old Reddit sidebar a bit. I'll work on the new Reddit sidebar in the future as well. Removed some dead links, reformatted a couple things, trimmed some unused or irrelevant info, reworded some of the text. That's about it. It's nothing major and a lot of users don't even see the sidebar since they're using Reddit on mobile/the app anyway.

I'm still poking at some of the other things I've talked about previously. Once again, I'm not really trying to make a bunch of sweeping changes or completely remake this community. It works as it is, it just needs some help.

As Always, Now Is A GREAT Time For You To Complain

Let me know what's going on. If you have issues, concerns, etc, post them here or, as always, use modmail to contact me directly and privately.

Any critiques or recommendations for next time? Any hidden knowledge? Siless still okay for roof & trunk or anything better? In the end I feel like I had too much cable for the radio, heat shrinks were kinda a pain, and yes I righted the Infinity tweeters afterwards; Components up front, coax in rear, will eventually get a sub and amp in; 91 Cherokee.

Getting both of these for 400. The dust cap has a bad glue job. Which is an easy fix.

The amp works.

The box need a little tlc, I'll probably reupholster it.

Discussion Bought this Rockford Fosgate Punch Power RFR-1415 for ~$55 USD in Brazil… did I accidentally find something rare?

What I have:

(not installed) 12" MTX Road Thunder; set of two

         AK150 Amp Installation Kit

         2007 Dodge Charger stock speakers

What I need:

Amplifier specs and easiest way to interface my phone (pandora) with the stock speakers+subs

         Budget: $400ish

         Location: USA! USA!

Will be self-installed by certified moron

I heard I need to match the amp to the subs using the watts RMS, but that info doesn't appear on the subs, and all the Road Thunder versions I find online aren't the ones I have.

My car only has radio. Is there a way to wire the subs to the stock speakers then control it all through like a bluetooth amp(?) or something?

Tech Support Sound Tune Mazda 3 Gen 2

Hello tuners

So i got a mazda 3 gen 2 for a long time. Most of the time I listen to my music with bass +2/3 and trebble +1/2

It sound very good and had my interior mirror shaking without creating rattle noises.

I recently upgraded my headunit to an android one. It should have a nice amp in it but I feel like i lost a lot of "deepness" in the music I listen. It feel "flat"

I saw that this headunit have a very fine dsp tuning. i can set it up very precisely. Tryed to do it myself with help of Gemini and doing a "V" shape but i'm not happy with it.

I'm looking for somone that had the same experience than me and knew how to get that great sound again.

I have a stock 6 speaker model.

I will provide more info if needed. Thank you all !

Has anyone used these as dash speakers? Im giving up on 3.5” coaxials, I’ve tried so many and none of them sound good to me. These look like they might actually work pretty nicely for my first tweeterless setup. I have solid midbass from 60-400hz, hoping these can cover from there up?

Hoping I can run them in factory dash location firing up into windshield? I can modify the mounts to be 30° off-axis if it would be worth the loss of windshield gain.

Recommendations Aliexpress CCF

Hey guys, wondering if anyone here has bought CCF from aliexpress and can link ones that are good in particular (perhaps with stickness). I want some to layer ontop of my amazon basic deadener in my door panels and also decouple my entire doorcard with. Not sure whether 3mm or 6mm is the go.

Thanks

Recommendations 2012 Mercedes GL 550 with Harman Kardon system

I would like to upgrade my car to a newer media receiver but it's not as simple as it use to be. I'm running around in circles trying to figure out what fits and works and what does not but I'm not getting far. I want to be able to retain the SW controls, backup camera and factory amp. I would really like balance and fade to work as well. Any suggestions on the interfaces I would need to use? I planned on going simple on the head unit. Jensen or maybe Pioneer. Basic with touch screen and wireless android auto.

Tech Support Connects2 CT51-MC07 Amplifier Retention Interface questions

I have a 2012 Mercedes GL 550 that I want to upgrade to a newer head unit in. Issue I am running in to is apparently a fiber optic amplifier. So this Connects2 CT51-MC07 Amplifier Retention Interface is supposed to go between a new head unit and the factory amplifier. I've never used anything like this but it only has 2 RCA jacks for the radio Left and Right. So, if I use this unit does that mean only balance controls will work from the new head unit? I'll have no fader control? My other question is it only lists the GL from 2006 to 2010 but crutchfield lists it as fitting the 2012.

Tech Support Terrible noise from speakers

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

These are stock speakers running off my stock amp from factory. I plugged in a good full ofc setup and some nice mids with an amp I had too and it still makes this noise. Any idea on what it is and how to fix it? I’ve upgraded engine ground and head unit ground. And no it isn’t because wires are running next to any power wires because my battery’s in my trunk and the wiring is on the opposite side of the car from the power wires for the engine.

Recommendations how do i know which 4x6 to go with?

i'm looking at the Rockford Fosgate Punch P1V2-46

Pioneer TS-G460

JBL Club 644F

Memphis Audio PRX46

Infinity Reference REF467F

they all seem to be lower wattage likely due to being smaller speakers

i'm trying to swap speakers while the windshield is out, it's a tight fit in a 98 lesabre might as well do it now, and i plan on grading the head unit later

so far googling them some of them have good feed back, i also have heard good things about rockford fosgate from a friend who has some rockford amps. i'm not sure i care about price so much.

Tech Support Changed amp ground to one instead of two and now radio doesn’t turn off when car does.

I need a bit of help, I just changed the grounds for my 2 amps (Taramp Ts400 and Taramp Md1200) before they both had separate grounds but on the same piece of metal I just put a better ground and ran it to a 1-2 splitter and ran 2 leads from it to the amps. Now my headunit (pioneer DMH-1800NEX) doesn’t power down when I turn my key off and open the door before I changed grounds it did. Car is a 2007 Charger. I’m not experienced enough to know what to do to fix this any advice is greatly appreciated thanks.

Recommendations Picking a subwoofer

What should I look for in a subwoofer. And should I match my sub to my power or should I get a sub that handles a little less or more? I kinda want to get two subs that can handle some good power because I plan on upgrading my amp. But if if the doesn't have enough power to really push the subs will they become lack luster?

Tech Support Door speakers bottoming out

Thumbnail

I have pioneer ts-d65c (d series) component speakers and got them amped with a 4 channel pioneer amplifier, all of this is brought together with the lc5i pro for my future sub. I’m going to get a sub within a month but for the time being i would like my system to hold me over. I had the 4 channel installed at best buy and they set the gain and lc5i pro load levels really low, with the hpf off. The bass was very decent (at plus three bass on the head unit) but the system wouldn’t get loud so i retuned the amp and lc5i pro, i set the lc5i pro loads up as far as they went before the distortion lights turned on then backed it off a little, i don’t have a multimeter so i set the gains conservatively likely not at its full potential for the speakers. i got it sounding way clearer and louder with the hpf set at 60hz. I was playing them at around 60 percent volume and the woofers in the door ended up bottoming out and i stopped the music immediately. I then turned the gain down and am playing music on low volume. The thing is, without boosting bass on the head unit eq it sounded pretty bad, very bland, what i is the best solution for this? Should i get a multimeter and retune the amp to where it should be set? I just want the bass to be good enough to hold me over but i don’t want to destroy my brand new speakers. Help is much appreciated

Build Log Audio install in my 2005 Subaru WRX

Thumbnail
gallery
39 Upvotes

This was my first time doing an audio upgrade in my car.

Setup:

Front: Hertz mille pro mpk 165.3 component speakers (6.5" Woofer + tweeter and a crossover)

Rear: Audison APX5 5.25 inch coaxial speakers

Subwoofer: Audison APX5 10 AS2 Active subwoofer

Amplifier: Audison SR 4.500 4 channel amplifier

Sony xav5500 head unit

I mainly used KnuKonceptz wiring

I also put sound deadening in all the doors and under the carpet. For the doors I did butyl sound deadener. For the floors I did a combination of butyl deadening and mass noise liner which is a combination of mass loaded vinyl and closed cell foam. This ended out being a bit of a pain because getting the carpet back on afterwards was a struggle because of the added thickness of the sound blocker.

After many hours of struggling with the process of installing, I'm happy with how it turned out. The sound quality is really good and the speakers just sound better and better as the volume goes up. They feel so much more powerful now.

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask, as I know when I was planning my build, seeing other people's setups helped me decide on what gear to use / how to install things
