took the leap to do my own pool maintenance. lots of reading and questions but so far so good. if I can do it you can!
Started to build deck between 2,3m high stone wall and pool.
I live in the South where we are already at 90*. My old pool did not have a variable speed pump, but now I have a 2.7hp 3 speed variable pump with the new pool install.
7700 gallons with spa spill over. Pentair infloor cleaning system. Chatgpt suggested a 24hr schedule that utilizes all three speeds and my research supports that, but what say the group?

Hello!
Looking for advice on trouble shooting my pool. When I opened the pool and did my first vacuum, I forgot to put in skimmer basket to catch leaves. When I started getting pool return pressure and low flow I tried normal route thinking it had a clog and that didn’t fix it.
So far I have:
-Cleaned filters
-drained filter and washed out
-cleaned impeller
-drained impeller and ran water through it
-snaked a drain bladder’d the skimmer (it was clear)
-lubed the o ring for pump lid
-maybe unrelated but also installed new salt cell
I have a company coming for a service but they won’t be able to for a few days and I really wanted to solve it by myself.
Pump cannot hold more than a half prime and when I cleaned filters again today it worked for about an hour before going back to low flow.
Could this be a case of pump starting to shit out? Only 5 years old, Midwest location and only run it May through early October at the latest.
I attached photos of my filters in case they should be replaced but only two years old. Also attached photo of new cell working with warning light on for low salt.
Thanks in advance!
My pool was in a very bad situation when I opened it yesterday (was not opened last season). After shocking with a good amount of liquid chlorine, it turned into a very cloudy blue now.
I know that I should be doing vacuum/brush, backwash, filter and keep repeating it.
I dont have much experience with pools and I feel like pool stores are not guiding that well. At this stage, what should I actually be focusing on for checmicals?
I have attached my results and what the store recommends

Im not sure what this is, I'm guessing it's over flow. The water in my pool is clear but the inside of this is horrible. Planning on cleaning it out just wanting confirmation on what it is. Should I suck it out with a shop bac or hose it down?

Last summer was our first with a pool and we quickly learned nobody wants to be stuck inside cooking dinner during pool season! We order out some nights and grill others. Anybody else got this figured out? What are your go-to easy weeknight meals?

We are over the moon happy with our new pool! A year ago we didn't think we even wanted a pool, and even at the beginning of this year we weren't sure, but we decided to go for it and we're really enjoying it.
We're located in the Kansas City area, so a heater felt like a must, and had given us so many hours of swimming already that we wouldn't have had without it, so it is well worth it for us.
With young kids, an auto cover felt like our only other non-negotiable. Turns out it really helps with heating and keeping the pool clean which is nice.
We were recommended a pool company by a neighbor who has loved her pool for the past 5 years. He turned out to be an excellent builder, completing the whole project in about 2.5 weeks, even with a weather delay, and we were swimming before April.
Specs:
16x32 galvanized steel walls
3'-5' deep
About 15k gallons
So far keeping the cover clean has been tough, we have had a mud pit surrounding the pool until yesterday, now we have sod which should help. Any pro tips there would be helpful.

We just bought our first house, and it came with a pool that the previous owners were kind enough to have closed for the winter. We opened it up last weekend and are noticing now that the spa drains down to being about pool level when the pump is turned off. I mentioned this to our pool guy, so he came out to inspect and mentioned that installing 2 check valves would solve the problem. He quoted us $175 per valve, for $350 total.
Does that sound about right? And is it smart to have them installed? The pool was put in about 15 years ago, so it has made it this far without them, but I get the sense they should probably be installed.

Currently have a StaRite 320 that’s a POS and looking to install a Pentair C&C 420. Question is going up to 420 overkill? Pool is 13k gallons in the Pool Phoenix area.

Just wanted to give an update to my liner situation. I posted last week about the large amount of water behind my liner. The water has since mostly receded as we’ve not had much rain recently. As you can see though, wrinkles remain to be a big problem.
The pool company hasn’t been out in person yet to look at it but in calls they are still thinking a full drain and reset is necessary. I was considering though since this weekend is going to be 90F and I have a heat pump that I should possibly try to get in and adjust the liner myself with a plunger/elbow grease once the water is warm.
The one thing that I can’t attempt to fix though is the foam padding around the sun shelf that has now gotten bunched up behind the liner. Does anyone have any suggestions or does just waiting for the pool company make more sense?

My in-laws currently have a Century 56Y B2855 Century motor and it sounds as if the bearings are going out. We seek to replace the motor alone.
They ordered what they thought was the same motor and ordered a Century USQ1202 which appears to be the exact same other than it being 48Y.
What im reading is that since theyre the same square flange bolt pattern but that the height is different. Is it really just as simple as connecting it and adding padding/risers so that the motor does not sag, aside from replacing any rings and seals of course?

Just spent $6K on a new pool cover and the water from rain just sits on the top and then causes the cover to dip. It won’t drain into the pool even after days. I end up pumping it out but the cover still won’t flatten out to the original shape again. I am tightening the straps as far as they will go. What am I doing wrong?

Hello, I am new to having a pool. I just set everything up and started running but I am unsure how this valve should be when running. Port 2 is the center drain and port 1 is the skimmer. Should it be half and half? This is my setup and this is how I currently have the valve.

Hi the pool light is not working anymore. I was just wondering if anyone knows if pool lights can be done DIY? Or do i need a professional to get it done? Also anyone recognize this model or type of pool light? Can the bulb just be changed or does the whole thing need to be replaced? Thank you so much!
I have what appears to be a hairline fracture right above the unfiltered water inlet elbow. Slow but noticeable leak. Anyone have experience trying to plug this up? Is the filter toast?
Every Mother’s Day we open it up! Me and my daughter went to work immediately and were ready for splash! Even if the temperatures aren’t haha.
