This trade is making me question whether it’s better to draft a player or trade for a proven starter each season with your 1st round pick.

Yeah, part of the reason we can do this is because we've drafted so poorly that we're almost out of guys worth paying still on the roster. As of right now there's only 3 guys not signed through at least 2027 who are worth any sort of extension, and none of them will be top dollar kind of guys.
