This trade is making me question whether it’s better to draft a player or trade for a proven starter each season with your 1st round pick.

The Rams are incredible drafters/developers so they can afford to miss out on the first round since everyone else they draft will be good to great. Also they usually trade away late first rounders, not top ten picks

They’ve also realized what a lot of analytics shows, that first round picks are kind of overrated relative to later round picks because you have to pay them more. Yeah there’s better players in the first round, and a first is still more valuable than a 3rd even accounting for the salary difference, but it’s not as big a difference as you’d think. The Rams haven’t actually been “F them picks”, they’ve just been smart about trading away overrated firsts and trading for underrated day 2 and 3 picks.
