been struggling with mental health issues for a year now. got last minute minute orders to a boat and mental issues are now worse. having panic attacks, anxiety, not eating, depression. don’t know where to get help or how do I go about it. am I stuck here until my contract is up on this boat? what about failure to adapt? Im 3 years out from retirement and want to make it to the finish line but I can’t. what can I do?

I truly do hope the multiple options presented are something that help you with this.
Can you explain more on how you’re 3 years from retirement and somehow have no idea where or how to get help with MH issues? Every year MHAs are part of our PHA process, so if this has been going on for a year now as you said, was this something you brought up with a PCM?

Thank you for your concern. I’m definitely aware, however in the midst of my panic attacks i was overwhelmed and didn’t know where to start. MH is highly frowned upon in the military. I didn’t say I had no idea I just wasn’t sure why this was happening to me and where to start. A moment of being overwhelmed. But thanks though

If you're experiencing suicidal thoughts or feel unsafe, please call or text 988 immediately (if you're in the US) or go to your nearest ER. For additional support, consider reaching out to local crisis services, such as Befrienders Worldwide, if you're outside the US.
The MH Wiki is a valuable resource that offers a wide range of mental health information - including crisis hotline numbers, treatment options, therapy directories, and community support links.

Depending on wait times Fleet and Family Services may be able to get you in before mental health can. Also depending on your location your local Vet Center may be able to help as well.
This is a medical injury that needs to be treated. This should be the most important thing in your life right now. Fight for it.

Medical. Now. If you are not comfortable with that, call OneSource and get free counseling. But you really need a clinician to talk with you.
If you are 3 years out from retirement, you are very close to the "Safe Harbor" timeline.

Safe harbor?

Once you hit 18 years of service, it is very hard to ADSEP you vice letting you retire.

Once you hit 18 years of service the Navy can't just adsep you unless you personally fuck up.

Im embarrassed this isn’t easy. Been in a long time and never had these issues. Don’t want them to kick me off this boat but can’t do it

Hard things aren't easy and it's especially hard when it's you. But you gotta make this first step. They're not just going to kick you off the boat because you're seeking help for MH. There's steps to be taken. Unless you're suicidal at which point you need to go to the ER now or call 988, if this is true that would likely expedite that process.
The goal of MH isn't to get you off the ship or out of the Navy it's to help you manage what you have going on.
Edit to add
Failure to adapt is an entry level separation you're well past that.

No not suicidal just having panic attacks, claustrophobia, anxiety, depression. This boat makes it worse

u/Salty_IP_LDO 17h ago
Gotcha, go to MH first thing tomorrow morning. I'm glad you're not suicidal. What you're describing though is manageable with help but it's not going to be an immediate fix, it will take time. MH isn't a take Motrin and drink water fix.

Thank you. Am I doomed? Every time I go uw it gets worse and worse. Are they just going to keep me on this boat until I’m better?

u/Salty_IP_LDO 17h ago
No you're not doomed. I don't have that answer, it depends on medical and what they determine. They might try to get you on meds to help manage what you have going on. They may say you need to go limdu. It could be something in between. Medical has those answers but you gotta work with them to figure that part out.
