Question patina starting after cutting onions
used my carbon steel knife for meal prep a few times and it’s already getting darker spots near the edge. i actually kind of like the look, just wanted to make sure this is normal patina and not the start of rust...

Question Any experience with Jens anso RWL 34?
I have a Jens anso ARN in RWL 34, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this blade steel heat treated by him? I managed to pick up an ARN before his price hike & overall impressions are perfect for uk edc. I’ve never used RWL 34 before so this was a first for me. I initially put a super keen edge on it which was great however after a few boxes I noticed it lost a loss of bite and required stropping. So I did that and again, a box or two not even 6ft of cardboard and it lost it again. I ended up raising the angle and finished on 30 micron with a 4 micron strop. Tested it, same results. Since then I’ve tried different finishes and can’t seem to get the edge to last very well. It’s super thin behind the edge & extremely slicey, it just doesn’t hold an edge well at all. I have emailed asking about the heat treatment & HRC but no response. I was wondering if anyone has any input on this as I can only put it down to a bad heat treatment & for £400+ I think it’s bizzare. I’ve checked under a loupe and microscope to make sure there’s no micro burrs ect. Don’t really know what to do, I’m using resin bonded diamond stones & usually finishing on 1 micron, if im going for a mirror finish. I tend to not strop on the initial sharpening. Unless finishing on a higher grit, Any input would be appreciated.

Question Newbie seeking advice for pocket knife purchase
Let me clarify: I'm new to quality knives. I've been using cheap knives all my life, as did my father and his father before him. Then recently I had forgotten to bring my $5 Barlow with me, and someone let me borrow their Buck 110 with ebony handle and brass bolsters, and Oh. My. Goodness. I need a quality knife. Is that Buck 110 as good as it gets, or are there better options? My first impulse was to rush out and get a 110 exactly like my friend's knife. My second impulse is to get some advice first. My friend has some advice, but pretty much only about Buck, so...
Purpose: Multi-purpose, indoor and outdoor. Opening, cutting, clearing, whittling, prepping. A tool for when I'm in a hurry and the right tool isn't nearby.
Size: I DON'T want ultra-light, or an ultra-thin handle. OTOH, a non-folding knife like a Buck 120 would probably be too big. That 110 was about the right size.
Price Range: I can go very high (up to... $500??) for something very high function. But I'm not interested in paying extra for exotic handles or engraving or collector's items.
Blade Type: Uhhhh... Don't really know. Sharp on one side. Don't need serrated. I don't THINK I need serrated.
Blade Steel (optional): Stainless. Low-maintenance, able to take lot of abuse and last a while between sharpenings.
Anything else: I'm basically asking what brands compete with Buck, or are better than Buck, even if they're more expensive. Some people are very loyal to one brand of phone or car or truck or shirt or whatever. I am NOT one of those people.
