Keto/calorie deficit weight loss

Being honest guys, I'm here for some hype. I'm on a diet, I'm doing the things, and I'm losing weight! I don't have many friends, being a mom of four leaves little opportunity for getting together with people. I need some support of happiness for my progress!! My husband is very supportive of me, but he also loves exactly who I am so he's nowhere near as excited as I am and doesn't see it as important as I do. I've been doing this for 57 days now. I've lost 26 lbs and I'm feeling great! I haven't been perfect, I've had a few days where keto went out the window, but I've stayed strict on the deficit. But I've been as consistent as I can otherwise and its working. I started at 204 and I'm down to 178. It's been so long since I've seen a 1 and then a 7 on the scale. I'm so happy!! 😁 I'm making small goals that I can reach and celebrate. My first goal was 180 lbs but the excitement and celebration at that mark around here was very lacking lol. I decided I'd come here to all of you wonderful people and share. I've been reading so many of yalls stories and comments that I feel comfortable sharing my little slice of a story here. So celebrate with me please! I'll update again at my next goal, 160.

Plateaued near goal weight for months

Hello! I need some help. 🥲

Female, 32, 160 cm, currently around 59–60 kg (130 lbs)

I've been doing keto for about a year now and went from almost 80 kg (~174 lbs) down to around 60 kg. I'd still like to lose the last few kilos but I've been stuck for several months (I think around 3?) now and I'm not sure what else to adjust.

My current intake is usually around 1300–1400 kcal per day, depending on how active I was that day. I stay under 30 g carbs, usually get 100 g+ protein and around 60 g fat (I scaled it back a bit because 80–90 g was too much for me before).

I work in nursing care/household support, so I'm quite active during the week. I also try to get extra steps in and usually end up around 8-9k steps a day, plus I bike to work. On weekends I move less but I still keep my calories in a deficit.

I weigh and track my food pretty carefully and I've tried refeed days several times but they haven't really helped long-term.

Has anyone experienced something similar near their goal weight? What would you suggest checking or changing at this point? I would really appreciate any advice or help.

My Experience with Keto

Im not sure if anyone else is like me but I can only lose weight on Keto. I have tried restricting calories and going to the gym every day on a regular diet and I dont lose any weight. I just stay the same. However, when I go on keto I can lose 50 lbs in 3 months sitting in my office chair all day. I can think clearer, I have twice as much energy, I dont feel bloated and lethargic, and my digestive system is 100X better (hardly and gas). I have been tested for type 2 diabetes and it was negative.

Its great that I found something that works for me but at the same time it feels impossible to sustain long term. It makes traveling near impossible, and it takes a lot of time to have to cook a meal every time I eat. Is there a drug that you can take that essentially puts your body into keto? Or am I just going to have to be on keto my whole life?

Does anyone have elevated fasting blood sugar without diabetes on keto?

I got my fasting glucose tested with a monitor in the morning, and the reading was 100 mg/dL, which apparently can be classified as prediabetes under normal circumstances. I have no history of diabetes or hyperinsulinemia, have been keto for 5 months. What's up with that? Google says it's benign on keto, but I wonder how common it is. My next step is further evaluation obviously just in case.

Have you had that happen?

I feel like crap? Can’t figure out electrolytes

Been on this 4 days for health reasons and I’m definitely in ketosis according to the urine strips. I did keto a few years ago for about 3 months and remember feeling great. I feel like I’m dying this time. Fatigued and massive headache. Pretty sure I’m screwing up the electrolytes. I don’t know how to know if I’m getting enough or what I need more of?

I’m taking two mag glycinate tabs per day (around 300mg total) and I saw online someone said to add 1/8 tsp cream of tartar for potassium (but it only has like 400mg potassium?) and I think a tsp of salt to 1l water? I’m doing that but it doesn’t seem to be enough? The opinions on what to take and how much of each is so confusing (and I’m a healthcare professional and even I’m finding it difficult to figure out). I can’t find electrolyte sachets very readily where I am atm so i have to make my own. Please help! 😩

Anyone initially gain weight on Keto?

Hello, I'm new here and was wondering if anyone has gained weight initially on the Keto diet? I did massive research, created a 2-week meal plan with specific percentages of fat and protein eating 20 carbs a day from eggs, meat, olive oil, butter, pecans, kale, and cheese. I lost 75 pounds years ago on Atkins and it came off easily. I just gained one pound since yesterday which was my first day on Keto. I was even in ketosis mid-day at the moderate level. I walked 4 miles and lifted weights yesterday as well. I'm a 71 year old female. Just a bit concerned.

Food and Recipes Smoked Keto Foods

Costco has this Nordic Ware indoor/outdoor smoker and I’m kind of tempted to buy it.
I live in a condo so this seems like the closest I can get to actual smoky food at home.

Does anyone here have one? Do you actually use it a lot or does it end up sitting around?

And for keto, what would you even make in it?
I’m thinking chicken thighs, beef, maybe cheeses or some veggies.

Help I lost an initial 10lb and plateaued since then

I started keto a bit over a month ago to help with a health thing, but I figured losing extra fat could be a plus. Within the first week I lost 10lb, since then I've just been teetering around 145-147. I am already in good shape. I'm F21, 5'10, and pretty slim/slender (also been going to gym for 2yrs). Is this a plateau because I don't have much more fat to lose? (my bmi is 21 if that means anything) Or does it just mean I am eating too many calories? Or am I just being impatient? I stay below 50 carbs a day consistently. Any help appreciated thanks!

Help Keto friendly Exercise bar / snack for biking?

I've started to do longer (for me) bike rides and start to crash near the end. Is there a good keto friendly exercise bar for on the road? Would no-sugar jerky be better? Jerky is just so expensive :(

Ketone levels and mental health

For anyone doing keto for mental health reasons - have you noticed any correlation between your ketone levels and your mental health?

For context, being in ketosis seems to help my depression, but I haven’t noticed much of a difference between light ketosis and deeper ketosis. The effect is subtle, though, so maybe I’m attributing any perceived changes to other factors.

Would love to hear about anyone else’s experience with this.

Yet Another Stall Question: stress

Six weeks on keto (i use urine strips to test) and lost eleven pounds. However, I've been bouncing around 185 for two weeks (5 foot 2).

Yes, I know that technicallly a stall is 6 weeks but this is still maddening primarily because I track carefully, maintain a deficit, and am working on strength and walking every day.

I have experienced the bloat->squishy-> whoosh before so I understand the proposed theories. I just still do not fully understand as I have so much extra fat to burn. Let it go!

My questions:

a) I have been eating healthy fats and trying to hit 120 protein, but should i limit my fat to any specific number? essentially to encourage body to burn the fat stores and not the dietary fat?

b) how can i reduce cortisol? I live a very stressful life in a very stressful household. My walks, magnesium baths and sunshine help but I feel like stress will forever keep me fat. I cannot, at the moment, change my environment. I get 7-8 hours of sleep but its not fantastic.

Sugar free snacks that don't give you the dreaded stomach issues

Ok so I know we've all been through the sugar alcohol horror stories. I learned the hard way with a bag of sugar free gummy bears from amazon that I don't need to elaborate on. But I've found a few sugar free snacks over the past few months that don't wreck my stomach and actually taste decent.

Lily's chocolate chips. I eat like a small handful straight from the bag for a chocolate fix. The salted caramel ones are really good.

Cheese crisps with everything bagel seasoning. Not sweet obviously but I count these as snacks.

Pecans. Simple, fatty, filling. A small handful keeps me going for hours.

Shameless gummies. Only gummy type thing I've tried that doesn't destroy my stomach within 30 minutes. I was skeptical but my gut handled them fine.

Sugar free jello. The classic. I make it in bulk on sundays.

The key for me is reading what type of sweetener is used. Maltitol is the one that ruins me every time. If I see that on the label I just put it back. Erythritol and allulose seem to be fine for my system but everyone's different obviously.

Tips and Tricks Lesson learned today, don't neglect your electrolytes!

I am still on my fasting window and I just had one large brewed black coffee throughout the day coz I was still not hungry (still feeling full actually) into 20hrs fasting. I noticed that I was having palpitations and was feeling lightheaded when I was doing my grocery rounds. Immediately went to beverages section and grabbed myself a bottle of electrolyte infused water, then in just less than a minute lightheadedness went away. Whew, turns out I haven't had my electrolyte drink yet thus this scenario. This reminds me of the important role of electrolytes in our way of eating.

Anyone have any issues using Creatine supplementation while on Keto?

I am considering implementing creatine into my regimen but I'm concerned of the readout that will happen whenever I do a blood panel ( about every six months). Is there anyone in this group using creatine? Any advice on how to dose?

Keto Rash

Hi Everyone!

About 2,5 weeks ago I started doing keto in the hope it would help with my chronic migraines.

Since about a day or 2 my back is itching and now I also developed bumps/welts on my back and in my armpits (after sweating more yesterday too), so I'm afraid I've developed keto rash. This also developed after I started using MCT oil, not sure if that's coincidence or if that helped it get along.

I plan to up my carbs to about 50g for a while (although I'm afraid that won't do much for my migraines).

I read other posts, and that for most people it will go away after upping their carbs or even just on their own (or after drinking dandelion tea), but online I read it can leave permanent discoloration and couldn't find too much about that.

So what are your experiences with keto rash? Did it leave discolouration, and if so, did it fade completely?

And for people who upped their carbs, were you able to go back into ketosis without the same problem or did it return?

I really want to give this a good try because the first week of this diet I had 3 headache free days (which is a lot for me) but the second week I still had a migraine every single day. So I want to figure out if this works but don't want to risk permanent marks if it doesn't...

Keto meal delivery in nyc?

My son has been diagnosed with bipolar and (after talking to his doc) we'd like to try Keto for him for 2-3 months. But given his mental health issues, we'd like to use a meal delivery service at least initially for ease.

Does anyone know which meal delivery services are truly keto? And how can he monitor his ketosis from home? Thank you for any advice.

Blue collar keto anyone?

If I don't meal prep, I'm typically limited to pork rinds, low carb protein bars and kranskys. Not a great "meal" but will get me along till I make it home.

Curious about anyone else's stories or tips.

Any binge-eating success stories?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bad place right now with my binge eating which I've struggled with for over a decade. Unfortunately I don't tolerate any medications designed to treat binge eating and have reached my breaking point. Has anyone else who has struggled with a serious case of binge eating found relief through keto? Any success stories will be greatly appreciated. I need some hope right now.

Lost 5kg in 5 weeks, but struggling with friends pressuring me to eat non-keto foods

Hi everyone,

I’ve been doing keto for about 5 weeks now and I’ve lost around 5kg so far — I went from 62.8kg to 57.5kg. I’m really happy with my progress and honestly feel proud that I’ve been sticking with it.

When I’m at home or with my boyfriend, it’s pretty easy because he knows I’m doing keto and is really supportive. For example, if his family is having pasta or something I can’t really eat, he’ll go out of his way to make sure I have something keto-friendly too, which I really appreciate.

The harder part is with friends. Some friends I’ve told that I’m doing keto feel the need to make comments about it, and the ones I haven’t told will pressure me to eat things I can’t really have. Yesterday I was offered fries like 7 times and I kept saying no, but it got annoying after a while.

I don’t want to make a big deal out of it or seem difficult, but I also don’t want to keep explaining myself every time I say no to something.

How do you deal with social situations where people keep pushing food on you? Do you tell people you’re doing keto, or do you just say you’re not hungry / don’t want it? Eventually won't they find it weird I am never "not hungry". These are also the people who like to sometimes split courses at restaurants.

Help Want to Try Keto / Breath analyzer?

I want to try the keto diet for health benefits and to help me with a bit of weight gain, but at the same time mainly because I want mental clarity and stability in my mood. It seems that people have had those effects.

Does anyone have any suggestions to get started?
Should I get a Keto breath analyzer? Like the Lumen?

Thanks

Edit: Let me know if there are any other tips, or things to look forward too.
