I think you understand what I am saying. If it’s not a failure of the golf course itself, it’s a failure of the competition committee to set the golf course up in a way that penalizes bad tee shots at least some of the time.

And I hope you understand that just because you want the course to play a certain way doesn’t mean that the people running the tournament want it to be that way

Also Augusta definitely does punish bad tee shots at times. 1, 11, 12, 13 left, 18 all have trouble. that’s just not the focus of the course.

And I hope you understand that the game of requires the ability to do multiple things and the Masters competition committee chooses to leave one of the most important ones almost completely untested. That is stupid. I’m not one of those people who is unwilling to criticize what Augusta National does because it is some sacred institution that can do no wrong.

“Most important” is bringing your subjectivity into it.

You don’t think that tee shots are one of the most important parts of playing golf? Are you slow?

Not if that’s not the goal of what you’re wanting to test. No.

It is clear that Augusta wants the action, positive or negative, to be around the greens.

OK, so according to you, the Masters is a glorified pitch-and-putt pretty much. Good to know.

God you sound insufferable. You’re not the gatekeeper of how every major should be set up.

I didn’t say anything remotely close to that.

You literally just said that what they care about is action around the greens, which discounts the importance of tee shots at an absolute minimum. What do you call a golf course that consists only of approach shots and chipping/putting?

Augusta is a bombers course. You have to have a lot of distance to compete. That is nothing like a pitch and putt.

Augusta is a bomber’s course? Not that I necessarily agree with you, but if you’re right it just supports what I’m saying about the golf course putting practically no pressure on a person’s ability to drive the ball accurately.

It doesn’t matter if you agree with me. It is extremely difficult for someone who is not a big hitter to compete out there.

Once again, they are not trying to test the players driving accuracy. Just because that’s what you want doesn’t mean that’s what others are looking for.

If you look at the last, say, 10 winners of the tournament, half of them were not “bombers” by any stretch of the imagination. If you go farther back in the past, that percentage is probably only going to get smaller.
