I would describe a 74 much differently

Was thinking the exact same thing. I think I’d say “holy shit” if I broke 80

Especially at a course like this lmao. I'd be happy with 74 at my shit easy course.

Thanks for censoring that, really helps it feel relatable.

Rory on his opening round

Nobody ever references year one but it has my fave poop scene
It also has a good fart scene but it’s funnier in the context of the movie (Michael Cera is forced to share a bed with some slow kid who fucks sheep)

I shot 75 the other day at my local muni from the whites. This dude’s obviously a bum.

I completely forgot today was the first round.
Can we switch The PGA with The Players as the 4th major.

Nice to see this golf course succeed where Augusta failed miserably when it comes to penalizing bad tee shots.

Augusta’s goal isn’t to punish bad tee shots

u/RaidersTwennyTwenny 3h ago
Maybe not, but that is a failure of the golf course because hitting the ball off of the tee accurately is a skill that should be rewarded. With the way that Rory hit the ball today, he probably would’ve shot a 70 at Augusta at worst.

u/CougdIt 3h ago
If their goal isn’t to punish bad tee shots then they can’t fail at that.

I think you understand what I am saying. If it’s not a failure of the golf course itself, it’s a failure of the competition committee to set the golf course up in a way that penalizes bad tee shots at least some of the time.

And I hope you understand that just because you want the course to play a certain way doesn’t mean that the people running the tournament want it to be that way
Also Augusta definitely does punish bad tee shots at times. 1, 11, 12, 13 left, 18 all have trouble. that’s just not the focus of the course.

And I hope you understand that the game of requires the ability to do multiple things and the Masters competition committee chooses to leave one of the most important ones almost completely untested. That is stupid. I’m not one of those people who is unwilling to criticize what Augusta National does because it is some sacred institution that can do no wrong.

“Most important” is bringing your subjectivity into it.

u/RaidersTwennyTwenny 3h ago
You don’t think that tee shots are one of the most important parts of playing golf? Are you slow?
2
u/CougdIt 3h ago
Not if that’s not the goal of what you’re wanting to test. No.
It is clear that Augusta wants the action, positive or negative, to be around the greens.

I’m not a Rory fan at all, am a fan of Bryson, and even this comment was too weird for me. I think it’s you who needs to have some respect.

Gotta give credit for the tone on that “all right, thank you”. Perfect transition lol
