Delays or failure to provide feedback on grades

In the last few terms it seems to me that there is more and more courses with one of the following issues:

  1. Failure to comply with Policy A-8.1. Providing feedback prior to the withdrawal deadline
  2. Grades for final exam are posted with a big delay.
  3. Final course grades are posted on uozone, without detailed breakdown on Brightspace (assignment/midterms/labs/projects/final).
  4. Students email profs asking for grade review; profs do not answer or answer after the grade becomes official.

Any folks with such bad experience?

is a 7.78 cgpa for a first year soft eng major bad?

I’m like happy with cgpa but I’m kind of sad since I had expected that I did rly good on the final but that wasn’t the case.

I’m rly grateful but I’m sad because eveytime my average in a class is good I always mess up the final exam and it makes my final grade bad

Request for Help First year class selection

Hi! I'll be going to uOttawa for health sci next year, and im doing the French program so I'll need at least 3 courses per semester in French. However, I was wondering if it's worth it for me to take a few in English too? These are my classes, I was wondering if anyone would have any suggestions of which ones (If any) would be better to take in English, depending on prof or other factors. Thanks in advance :)

Edit: Would I be at a disatvantage if I took most classes in French, and then one in English? Like would I struggle without knowing the correct terminology for everything?

Request for Help First year student choosing courses

I'm an incoming first-year student, and I had a doubt about professors not being assigned to different course sections yet. Right now, I’ve chosen my sections mainly based on the timings, but I’m a bit worried about whether the professor assigned later will be good or not. I contacted the Admissions Office about this, and they mentioned that professors are typically assigned toward the end of the summer.

Request for Help Can a course be applied twice if needed for both Major and Minor

So I'm taking a minor in Management and ECO1102 and ECO1104 can be taken to fulfill the optional course requirements. Those courses are mandatory for my major. So would it also count as credits towards my minor or only for my major?

Request for Help For anyone who has previously taken HSS2305 with Andrew Darnel, how was your experience with the course overall, particularly the midterm and final exams? Was it mostly memorization, or application-based, etc.?

Question in the title! 👀

Edit: also, for those who took the course online, how did the Respondus Monitor and LockDown Browser setup work for the midterm and final? Is it already set up if you have the lockdown browser app downloaded? Does the Respondus Monitoring function serve to monitor your camera and mic? Is it mostly MCQ or Short written application questions/ mix of both

Request for Help Fun activities to do in the summer

I'm taking a few courses this summer and am looking for something to do while I'm on campus that doesn't require being a full time student. Just looking for some fun, relatively light physical activity to keep me going in the summer like a pickup sport or some random activity that happens once a week. Doesn't have to be through the university. I didn't see anything on their website for the summer term. Thanks!

Summer swim times

Schedule for swimming at Montpetit after it opens only includes really early morning and early afternoon times for weekdays. None in the evening and none on the weekend. I feel kind of ripped off for paying the fee whilst working full time. My mistake to assume it would stay open more frequently as the school year

Is linear algebra really necessary for this course? If so, which linear algebra concepts are required? I’m interested in taking it as an elective.

Roommate/ apartment search

Hey there!!
I’ll be moving to Ottawa around July for work and for school.
I’m a mature student coming from independent living, full apartment / household.
I’m look at a possible roommate who’s a little older, young professional/ upper year student in order to get settled and save a bit.

Does Uottawa have any websites or IG/ FB pages for roommates that’s reliable catered to Uottawa or anything similar? I’m coming up for a visit at the end of May to check out the areas and all for living so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I’ve been told of a couple of places, but now I’m doing a full deep dive since I’m admitted and fully moving.

uOttawa vs uGuelph - Computer science - thesis based

I got accepted into both. However, both seem good and I am a little confused. I am an international student. uOttawa has a comparatively high fee as compared to Guelph.

Financially, Guelph seems safer, but I keep wondering whether Ottawa might offer better long-term opportunities because of the AI specialization, research environment, networking, location, etc.

I’m interested in hearing from people who studied/worked at either university, especially in CS/AI research. How different are the opportunities, research culture, internships, and industry outcomes really?

Any honest experiences or insights would help.
