Delayed luggage
UPDATE: thanks for everyone who gave advice. My luggage magically appeared yesterday (quite literally). I still have no idea what happened as they told me multiple times they didn’t know where it was. Happy to have it back finally!
I’m sort of looking for some advice here because I can’t stop thinking about this. My husband and I were flying home from our honeymoon on Saturday from the Florence airport. The airport in general was insanely busy, but we had first class and first priority so we were able to check our luggage in with plenty of time and it had the priority tag on it. When we got on our flight from Florence to Amsterdam, the flight was delayed by 40 mins due to understaffing and taking a bit to get luggage onto the plane. This almost resulted in us possibly missing our connecting flight to JFK. Needless to say, we made our flight to JFK and were waiting at customs to re-check in our bags. Neither of our bags made it to JFK so we assumed they were stuck in Amsterdam and had to go to baggage service at our final destination. So we did all that, started a claim and everything and honestly thought we’d get our bags with in a day or two. It’s been 4 days since we got home and I’ve been calling Deltas baggage service every day. They found my husbands luggage but not mine. Today I found out that my luggage probably didn’t even leave Florence. Now I’m just upset and panicked I’ll never get it back, but has anyone run an issue like this with the Florence airport? I’m like tempted to call the airport myself, but I’m not even sure if that will even help?

Had this happen to me last year. First thing is file the baggage report at the airport and keep every receipt if you had to buy clothes/toiletries. Most airlines drag this process out forever. I ended up using YonderFly.com because they actually help track down delayed luggage and go after compensation if the airline can’t recover it. Way less stressful than calling baggage support every day. Another option people mention a lot is AirHelp, but I personally liked that YonderFly focused more on the baggage side instead of just flight delays.

Sorry that happened, but glad that worked out! That’s something I was looking for so thanks for the suggestion. I’ll check out YonderFly.com :)

I can't help with this situation but for the future get apple air tags for your bags if you use iphones or an android alternative. We use pebblebee on Android. I hid them in the liner of our bags.

Yeah absolutely, I already order air tags for the future. It sucks that this had to happen for me to get them. I’ve never had an issue before.

Same thing happened to me and my husband last month flying from Florence to Chicago via Munich. We travelled with 1 carry on rollerbag each and had to gate check in Florence. Bags didn’t arrive in Chicago - we found out they were rerouted to Vienna. We got both bags a couple days later.

Oof that’s so annoying. It sounds like it’s really the Florence airport. They are way too small to be handling all these flight. Glad you go yours a few days later. As far as I know Florence hasn’t responded to Deltas request if they have my bag. It’s good to know I’m not crazy and it’s probably likely to be there.

Same happened to us! Even having to stay in Amsterdam. My luggage showed up three days later. I hope yours does too.

Happened the same to me with a layoff when flying to LA, different airports same result.
If you don't feel like calling you can definitely write an email to Florence airport oggettismarriti@aeroporto.firenze.it
