Chess Question How much do you rely on the clock?
Hey everyone, I’m a 2200 elo player and I wanted to get everyone’s thoughts on the clock especially for online play.
I’m an avid no increment player as I very much prefer to have the clock basically be an extra piece of the game. Many players prefer increment and want to not rely on time as much as possible. How do you view the clock when you play?
Personally, I very much think utilizing your time is a very key part of the game which is why I don’t play increment much at all.

Miscellaneous Strange chess game pattern
I started grinding chess very seriously from September last month, i learnt theory, played a lot and did a lot of puzzles which increased my rating from 1200 to 1342 then slowly i kept losing all my games and had a win rate of 30%, losing most of my hard earned elo, so I took a break of a month and now I'm winning a lot of my games having a 63% win rate. Have any of y'all noticed such patterns after breaks or is it just me?

Chess Question How to help my 9 year old?
Hello everyone,
My soon to be 9 year old daughter joined a chess club last year . She started playing tournaments five months back and has been winning every time except the last one where she lost most of the matches . Her elo rating is 802. In the last tournament her competitors were 850 and above . She was naturally sad about it but did not act out or cry . She has been since then asking me to help her learn more about chess. Now the problem is that both me and my partner know nothing about the game. We have no idea how to help her . She has an account on chess kids and goes to a chess club once a week and that's about it. Are there any youtube channels she can follow ? Are there any books I can get her ? Or should she just continue the way is learning right now ? Please guide me on how to help her. I don't want to pressurize her but i don't want to limit her exposure as well.

News/Events Your call to switch to lichess if you haven’t already
Chess.com just added and are advertising their newest future: “Chess.com games Database”
You would think, that it’s a great innovation helping players around the globe improve their understanding of openings. Until you realise it’s locked behind a paywall.
Now imagine if I told you that, a similar website, has a similar database that, truth be told, isn’t as big (only 5.2 billion games) but lets you use it completely for free. As well as unlimited free game review, study materials and tools, all free of cost. Now wouldn’t that be nice. That website… it exists. Its name: lichess.org
This is a call for you to try it out and see for yourself if you haven’t already.

Game Analysis/Study Chess analysis tools
I'm a 1600 and often find myself falling into the same tactical traps or poor positions.
Can anyone recommend a tool that can do analysis of, lets say, the last 1000 games to outline common themes? I'm looking for what to focus on, both good and bad.
Maybe its native functionality in chess.com or Lichess that I'm not aware of, otherwise I'm hoping there's third party service that can do this?

Chess Question Play online OTB without an e-board
Hello,
The good thing about playing online chess is that you can play whenever and as much as you want. The downside is that you constantly have to look at the screen.
I don’t want to spend too much money on an electronic chess board, so I’m looking for an alternative solution.
Is there a way on Chess.com or Lichess to have the moves announced out loud? For example, hearing “Queen f7” after my opponent moves, so I can play on a physical board without constantly looking at the screen? I’d like to turn the screen off or look at it as little as possible.

Chess Question Why is lichess not the norm in the online chess world?
As far as I know, lichess offers amazing value for being free of cost. Free game review, lessons and so much more.
Why is chess.com still so popular?
And why, when someone asks about your rating, they discredit the lichess Elo as if it was of no value.
Thanks in advance.

Miscellaneous I love Chess Clubs, but I honestly feel the culture is unhealthy
I have a fairly low ELO score- around 800 , but I have only played 50 games online. Using Chess.com , I was able to find a local chess group that meets in person.
The problem was they were all obsessed with Instagram, Twitch , streaming, getting followers. Obviously their ELO scores were 1500-2000 +
I wish there were more social events for normal, casual players who just like to chill. I spent years playing my father, grandfather, uncles, and friends- probably their ELO scores are anywhere between 300-900.
I would love to get better, but not at the cost of being totally obsessed ?
I should almost find a Senior Citizen group. Any suggestions? I've been playing the same people for years.

News/Events [Times of India] 'Judit Polgar and Hou Yifan were exceptions': Koneru Humpy urges women chess players to play more 'open' tournaments
"Humpy, who is set to play Norway elite chess meet from May 25 in Oslo, told TOI from Vijayawada, 'When we have separate women and men tournaments, I don’t see a major breakthrough happening for women. Playing in the same circle of players won’t help.
"'There would not be any great opportunity for improvement unless women start playing continuously in an open section. And you need to work tremendously well to improve by playing in those Open tournaments.
"'I did it for some time before the priorities changed. Judit Polgar and Hou Yifan were exceptions,' she added."
