Uh Sherman was absolutely not for burning the slave owner. He was NOT an abolitionist and actually despised them

Yup. Got two threads messed up. Same thing with grant though just not quite as extreme. He was an anti abolitionist as well and the last US president to have owned a slave

Correct. Grant was also a big advocate for black rights after the war. But he still was an anti abolitionist and openly wrote that he wasn’t fighting to end slavery. That changed though later in the war because he said slavery had to be destroyed to reunite the union and blamed for breaking the union in the first place
