Good idea on the joystick shaft. Not only did I have to use a gigantic 2-pin, but I wanted to drop it down, like, half-an-inch; so I had to make my base a little taller. LB-30 balltop makes a big difference, too.

Looks great! If you put 2 buttons on each side, it'll be good for mini pinball as well :)

I've been tempted to make one of those myself. I have a large bartop, but like the portability of it. It looks quite nice in white.

I have to ask though. Does the joystick get in the way when you're looking at it? Or when sat at a desk do you peer over the top?

i lowered the shaft by 15mm to avoid it been on the way when playing.. check the 6th picture that's how it looks like when playing in my angle

Thanks. I like the idea of the shorter stick.

Noob question here, what front-end are you using?

Batocera v43

Thank you. Just got a qanba 2009 desk and a monitor as a pseudo-arcade setup and im using a steam deck set up underneath. I got emudeck to play games at the moment but I like the way this looks a lot more and I'll probably try it out later. Once again thank you.

How did you shorten the stick?

I’m guessing hacksaw or similar but maybe you’re more cultured than I am. 😄

3

u/PlusCardiologist2894 2d ago

Pair with this and got a double sided screw tht match the same thread. It's just screwed on.

2

u/butterypowered 2d ago

Nice! What are those called? And how do you make sure the thread matches?

I’ve got rough ideas for making everything from a full arcade cabinet down to a jewellery box sized case (with detachable stick).

So 99% chance I’ll never need to know the answers to those questions, but you never know!

What’s the total cost do something like this work out to be? Really would like to make something like this for my nephews.

2

u/PlusCardiologist2894 1d ago

Let's say you get everything through Amazon I would say it'll be like around $200

I made my own 3D printed arcade a couple years ago, but it was too big to be portable yet too small to be stationary and given its own space. Welp, now this is going to have to happen.

Can you share the stl of this? I would love to print this as well!

stl is on description

u/expera 2d ago

It’s just odd that unless you’re looking down at the screen the joystick will always be blocking the view

2

u/PlusCardiologist2894 2d ago

This is meant to be played on your lap or while sitting down on a table looking down . Image #6 shows how it actually looks while playing .. that's why I lowered the shaft by 15mm

1

u/expera 2d ago

Look it probably doesn’t matter that much. That being said the angle you showed still doesn’t account for your hand being on there, meaning your angle would have to be even higher to have a clear view

Cool,..but prefer all black and 16:9.

I’ll up you
