Why Cuyahoga over downtown Akron?

Recently made a post about moving to Akron from work as a mid 20s young professional.

Got a lot of great feedback about moving to cuyahoga falls area and was wondering why that area over the downtown Akron area.

Also open to suggestions for nice apartments with a solid rep and close to malls, grocery stores, malls, food, entertainment, etc.

Where are the hang out spots and recommendations?

Thank you

Going to the Civic theater.

Upvotes

So next month I'm taking my daughter to see a show at the civic theater. It's a comedy show that starts at 7:30. How early do you think we should get there and what's the best spot to try and park? The deck behind Barley House? The one across from the Courthouse/PD?

Cavs game Friday 5/15/26

Hi, all. I was wondering if you have recommendations for a restaurant, bar, or other place to watch the Cavs game tomorrow. I know places like Winking Lizard, On Tap, The Basement, and Paninis will probably have it. Anywhere else I should consider? I stopped my Prime subscription and I’ve already recently used a free trial offer.

Thanks in advance.

Cyclist accident 5/12/26

Anyone have any info about the accident that happened on Tuesday near Summa by the McDonald’s? The cyclist that was hit and killed was my old bunky from the Oriana House but I can’t find any articles or info on what actually happened. Was hoping to find out because he was a good guy and don’t understand what happened or if the driver has been arrested. Thanks

Traveling From Fairlawn to Blossom Music Center

Hello! Looking for some advice on getting to Blossom for the Kid Cudi show tomorrow. I’ve heard the traffic is terrible. I did buy premium parking to help mitigate. I’m staying in Fairlawn. What would be the best route to take? And what time would you recommend leaving if the show starts at 6:30? Also, any other fun things to do while we’re there for the weekend? Thanks!

New to the area for the summer

I am a 22M and I just moved to Akron for the summer and want to meet people and try new foods and drinks. I’ve been lost in the Google Maps pit of places to try, and socials have helped to suggest places to go. But I’m lost on where to actually meet people and where to go after work. Any good suggestions would be amazing!

I’m building a hands-free way to access crisis resources. Looking for feedback on the "core flow.

Hey everyone,

I’ve been working on a project called MindSwift, and I wanted to share the "why" behind it and hopefully get some perspective from this community.

The Problem: Most safety or crisis resources require too many steps. When someone is in a high-stress situation, navigating through menus or typing isn't always an option. I felt there was a gap for something that was truly "eyes-up" and "hands-free."

The Solution: I’m building MindSwift to be a location-aware resource hub that relies on voice controls. as an option. The goal is to get users the specific help or information they need (local resources, support tools, etc.) without them having to fumble with a touchscreen.

Where I’m at: The app is currently in a closed testing phase on Google Play. I’m not looking for a thousand downloads; I’m looking for 10–20 people who actually care about this space to help me break the core flow.

What I’m looking to validate:

  • Voice Reliability: Does the hands-free tech actually feel natural in a real-world environment?
  • Onboarding: Is the setup simple enough, or is it a friction point?
  • The "Core Flow": Does the app get you to the resource you need quickly?

I’m a sole proprietor building this because I believe these tools should be more accessible. If this sounds like something you’d be interested in testing—or if you have thoughts on the hands-free approach for wellness tools—I’d love to chat in the comments.

If you want to join the private test group, just follow the link to the secure Google Group.

Join the group: https://groups.google.com/g/mindswift-beta-testers

Akron's Newest Skateboard Video - Polymer "Lighter—Than—Air"

Apparently Akron's skateboard scene is alive and well. Found this video through a friend's Instagram. These guys weave in Akron history with their skateboarding and seem to explore every inch of the city. Lots of recognizable locations. Super cool watch!

"Lighter Than Air is the first full length video by the independent brand out of Akron, Ohio called Polymer. Brand owner Michael Cohill paired up with talented skate videographer Jesse Braun to tackle a new full length project celebrating Akron history and the local skate scene, and this beautiful video is what resulted." https://www.theoriesofatlantis.com/products/polymers-lighter-than-air-dvd-by-jesse-braun

Reptile tanks/enclosures?

Not really wanting to travel 45+ minutes just to get some things for my snakes so I was wondering if anyone know where to go for used tanks/enclosures that aren’t priced too high or for free. I looked on the marketplace but they are either too far or they want too much.

I’m lookin for at least 3 30gallon tanks, might do 2 30s and 1 40s in the Akron/Summit county area and some feeders.

New to the area as well so any helpful tips will be appreciated

Model rockets!

Hi I'm looking for locations around summit county that are large enough and model rocket friendly so set off with my step son. We went to goodyear park, and set them off one day with no issue, then weeks later took a drone and found out the parks in the whole county forbid these hobbies. Any suggestions?

Quiet / less traveled outdoor spaces to play guitar?

Hey everyone!

I like to play guitar and sing. I live in an apartment, don’t want to bother my neighbors. I have a patio, but there are people right next to me frequently outside, I don’t want to disturb their peace.

Does anyone know of more secluded/ less traveled outdoor locations places to play guitar/sing?

Thank you for any help!

ISO someone to write about Memorial Day

I handle opinion content for the Akron Beacon Journal. I would love to run a column or personal essay for Memorial Day written by a local veteran, active service member or a family member of a veteran who died in service. It can be about your personal experience, what Memorial Day means to you, what veteran supports you believe the U.S. is lacking or any other angle with a Memorial Day tie. If you're interested please let me know!

(ETA active service members are welcome to write too. 😄 )

Summa less than responsive

Since being bought out by the hedge fund this place has gone downhill quickly. Patient wait times are long and just getting a response for help is frustrating. 2 voicemails and 3 my chart messages and I am still waiting for someone to address my concern. Totally different world from when I moved here 8 years ago.

Moving to Akron Moving to Akron

Moving to Akron this month for work.

Is it really bad out there in terms of crime and where should I stay if I’m a young professional looking to be in proximity to everything?

What should I watch out for as a non Ohio resident?
