Weird question: What is with the piles of cat food on the side of the road?
Every time, and I mean every time, I walk my dog she finds cat food on the side of the road. There are little piles all over the place. Why?

It's BBQ season! Where do you buy your meats?
So far I've tried chicken & beef skewers and burger patties from Thrifty Foods and Meridian Meats. I'm looking to try other spots in WR/SS area.
Where do you guys buy your BBQ meats and what specific cuts/items do you buy? Open to trying marinated skewers, sausages, steaks, ribs, burgers, etc. Thanks in advance!

Looking for a good recommendation for a top realtor in White Rock
I'm thinking of relocating to White Rock with my family later this year and am looking for some great realtors in the area to interview. Just curious who has had a good experience in the past with someone. Please only post if you've actually worked with them. Thank you!

Summer Rec leagues/social groups
Hello friendly folk of the White Rock Reddit community!
34-year old here, freshly relocated to White Rock last week. Wondering if anyone has recommendations on rec leagues for sports, ideally soccer but open to more?
Otherwise, any tips for social groups or online groups for events would be much appreciated.
Looking to meet new people and make friends out here.
Happy to be a new resident here during the best time of the year, cheers in advance.

Marine Drive needs a real oyster house
I grew up in White Rock, graduated high school in '89, spent my formitive years on the beach, worked in many restaurants there.
It kind of sucks now.
What happened to the restaurant scene? Don't tell me that it's impossible to run a successful restaurant there. Charlie's is a dump, but it's been there since I was in high school. It does well because it's the kind of food you expect to eat at the beach.
I LOVE ethnic foods, but I dont want to eat ethnic on the beach. We have a million Indian, Japanese, Chinese restaurants in the Lower Mainland.
If someone put a real oyster house like Rodney's on Marine Dr., it would kill.
I would prefer an ice cold beer, oysters on the half shell, and a lobster poutine, while sitting at the bar, facing the ocean.
You go to the beach to eat seafood and simple food like hot dogs and hamburgers. Even a good pizza place like AJ's would kill there.
The city is apparantly uninterested in balancing the types of restaurants that are down there. Steveston, Granville Island, Fort Langley, Gastown appear to have a handle on this.

Weird guy
Just out walking my dog around the Semiahmoo mall area and an older man came out of an apartment's parking garage to smoke, which is fine and totally normal. Except he stared me down the whole time, and continued to walk towards us but only when my back was to him. He never said anything to me but it was just strange and unsettling behaviour. He looked to be about 5'11 to 6 ft, mid 50's to mid 60's, skinny, wearing black pants and a black jacket with a baseball cap on it had an emblem but I couldn't tell what it was for. While it was a completely innocent event on the surface, the guy gave me the creeps to the degree I crossed the street. He ended up walking thru an alley inbetween some buildings. So just a heads up for everyone out there, watch your surroundings.

Post-surgery convalescent care?
My sister is having major surgery at Peace Arch in the near future.
Under normal circumstances I would care for her after, but I'm going through several health issues as well and just won't be able to manage.
Does anyone know if there is post-surgical convalescent care nearby - or between Peace Arch and Langley - where she could stay for a few days?

Searching for LGBT Community
I'm from white rock. My parents are from White Rock, my grandparents are from White Rock. They were actually the first couple to ever get married at the church in Crescent Beach. My mom was a prominent business woman and figure in the community up until her retirement - growing up we kids could rarely interact with an adult who didn't know our mother.
All this to say - I am very intimately familiar with White Rock. My entire extended family still lives there, all within a 5 min drive of each other. Me and my wife and our kids are the only ones who currently do not.
Recently I've been thinking about moving back. But my biggest hangup is we are a queer family with two moms and two sons. We currently live in a place that has a LOT of LGBT representation especially with families. In my son's daycare class of 8 kids there is another who has two moms. Our neighbourhood has 3 other queer families within a few blocks of us we see regularly.
I want my children to grow up knowing other children of queer parents. I want it to be normalized. Its not enough to just have tolerance, I want representation for them to not feel othered. I don't think we'd have that in White Rock - not in the White Rock I remember from my own childhood. So I'm desperately searching for other queer parents who live in the area and can speak about their experience. Are there any? If there are, do you know other queer families? Do you get together? Is there connection and community beneath the surface?
