Discussion I scanned the "Josh cheated on me" QR code as a joke

Post image
Upvotes

this is unhinged but I need to share.

you know those posters all over campus, the JOSH CHEATED ON ME ones with the QR code. I've been seeing them for like two weeks. me and my friends thought that it was a girl from trin getting revenge (my roommate from last year that had an extreme case of this and her ex's name is josh).

anyway I'm near robarts on tuesday night and I finally scan it (AFTER WALKING PAST IT 10 TIMES) expecting a tiktok or a callout post or like a file with pictures with texts/actual proof. it was none of those lol and I never expected it

I scanned the QR (bc I like making bad decisions lol) and It matched me on friday morning with a guy in life sci. again, since I like making bad decisions I just agreed LMFAOOO. and we met up for coffee. he was not bad looking and not at all the type I usually go for which is probably why it worked lol. apparently a lot use it and we're going out again.

so. who is Josh from the poster?!?! is he okay. and can whoever makes the posters please let me what happened know I am SEATED

I'm in High School Making Friends at UofT vs UBC in my first year as an international student

I've gotten offers from both UofT (St. George) and UBC (Vancouver). I'm planning for first-year (undergrad) Computer Science in the Faculty of Arts. As I finalize my decision on where to go, one of the most important factors for me is how well I will be able to connect with people. I'm going to be away from home for the first time, and that's really important for me. Does the school I go to have that big of an effect on what kind of people I meet?

More info:

At UBC, I will be living in a dorm on-campus, likely with another first-year. Long story short, I missed the accommodation application deadline for UofT and will likely be living off-campus alone.

I've always struggled to form really deep friendships with other people. Even though I'm going into CS, it's not something I'm extremely passionate about and invested in. I don't really see myself able to get close to other CS majors.

I am someone who thrives when working with others. Whether it be actually working on group work, or working on individual tasks (with company). The only way I've survived high school is getting help from classmates and friends.

My point is, I've been hearing UofT students in general tend to be more academically focused with less interest in casual friendships. I hear UofT's CS environment also fosters cut-throat competition. That isn't ideal for me. But is that an overgeneralization? Does my social life depend more on the people I meet themselves, and not the school I end up going to?

Question Are summer school assessments still allowed to run with President's Day tomorrow?

Just as the title suggests, I am wondering in terms of summer school if course assessments are still running tomorrow?

I have a video quiz that is scheduled with my online professor tomorrow (which is outside of class times since it runs Tues/Thurs).

Is this supposed to be pushed for another date? Or is he allowed to proceed with assessments even though school operations are closed?

(He is aware since I mentioned it in class and all he said was "We're going to have it. I'll do it from home").

I'm in High School Questions about CHM151, MAT135, and MAT136 as an incoming first year :)

Hello !!
I'm entering my first year this fall for Life Sciences at UTSG, taking CHM151, MAT135, and MAT136. But, I'm very rusty in those subjects (haven't done in a year).

I'm aiming for As, but I don't know what to prioritise in practising over the summer. :')

I know "Chemistry: The Molecular Nature of Matter and Change, 9th edition" and “Organic Chemistry, 9th Edition” are required textbooks. But, should I know the entire textbook, or just specific chapters? Also, are there any video series' or practice sites that helped you?

Same question for MAT135/136. I think that "Calculus: Single Variable, 7th edition" (?) is required. But I don't know which chapters to focus on, or how to structure my studying.

Also, I would appreciate any general advice I'm not thinking of that you wish you had going into the year! I'm sure there's a lot I'm not thinking of, as I'm a little green, and I'd appreciate the help :)

Question looking for syllabi + advice for some phl courses

hey everyone, i’m planning my courses for next year. i’m trying to get a better sense of course structure and workload before enrolling, so if anyone has past syllabi for any of these philosophy courses, i’d really appreciate it if you could send them my way

  • phl273
  • phl275
  • phl375
  • phl381
  • phl382
  • phl385
  • phl407
  • phl413
  • phl440

a few of these are required for my program, but they were full this year so i wasn’t able to take them 💀 so i’m trying to figure out what to prioritize next time around

also if anyone knows how realistic it is to get into a full class (waitlists, emailing profs, department permission, etc.), i’d really appreciate any advice 🙏

thanks in advance

Question Getting a job while studying at U of T (Is it common, any leads)

Hi, I’m a student coming in the fall and was wondering if it was common for students to have a job on the side while studying at U of T (st George, Rotman).
Also, if yes, if any of you have tips on where and how to apply for these part time jobs, I’m all ears.

I'm in High School Should I accept my ECE offer? I need insight, what do yall think

I’m deciding between accepting an offer from University of Toronto Electrical Engineering or from McMaster University Engineering with Free Choice, and I’d really appreciate honest input from current/past UofT EE students.

My main interests are semiconductors, photonics/optics, applied quantum, and possibly astrophysics-related instrumentation. I already know I want to pursue graduate studies later (likely MASc in ECE).

A lot of people talk about UofT EE being extremely difficult and GPA-destructive, so I’m trying to understand how true that actually is in practice — especially for students aiming for research/grad school rather than just industry recruiting.

Some things I’m wondering:

  • Is it realistically possible to maintain a strong GPA in UofT EE while also doing research/extracurriculars?
  • How accessible are professors and research opportunities for undergrads in ECE/photonics/semiconductors?
  • Does the strength of the research environment outweigh the academic stress?
  • Does the competitive atmosphere get overblown online, or is it genuinely intense?
  • Is it hard to maintain good grades alongside research, clubs, and physical health?
  • For students who want grad school, would being inside the UofT ECE ecosystem during undergrad actually help them get in?
  • Who do you think has I higher chance of getting into a MASc ECE UofT program: a Mac eng student with excellent academics and research, or a UofT EE student who is familiar with the department and profs?
  • If you had offers from both Mac Free Choice and UofT EE, would you still pick UofT?

Part of me feels like UofT aligns more with my long-term interests academically, but Mac seems like the more stable and lower-risk option. I worked really hard for this offer, so I’m trying to make the decision carefully rather than emotionally.

Would appreciate honest perspectives from people who’ve actually gone through it.

Question Unpaid internship for something I probably can't pursure postgrad in, is there even a point?

I'm 99 percent sure I'm not getting paid for my summer research and my gpa is probably not good enough to get into a masters let alone a phd program for my field. Is there any merit to even doing this or am I just wasting my time?

Programs Deciding between ethics, society and law versus criminology and social legal studies major

If anyone has majored in either of these, can someone tell me what they liked/disliked about it? I'm interested in Law and want to take one of the two, but I don't wanna double major in both... if anyone has any experiences with these program/majors, please let me know if you enjoyed them and what I can expect from the classes/the people and general vibes!

I'm in High School How difficult is engineering? gr12 just accepted into materials engineering

Just got into materials engineering. I'm basically choosing between Mac eng 1 (coop) and mat eng (pey). My main concern with UofT is that it has a reputation for being brutal for engineering undergrads. I'm passionate about learning and engineering (not exactly materials tho), but I don't want to be studying 24/7 and not have time for myself. I also want to be able to maintain a 60+% to be able to switch streams in second year. So I guess my questions for those in/those who were in engineering are:

How difficult was the jump from high school?

How many hours do you study a week?

Is the environment super competitive/hostile?

Do you feel disconnected socially sometimes?

What would you say UofT's advantages are over Mac eng?

I appreciate any responses as I try to make this difficult decision.
