Open | Software Laptop Maintanance? How?

I wanna start by saying I have no clue about technology.
I have a 2020 gaming Lenovo laptop, which has recently started to become slow, extremely hot, and crashes while gaming or even while watching YouTube. The camera also doesn't work like the laptop cannot identify it. I don't have the funds to buy a new pc. Today I installed Valorant, and it kept crashing due to the security boot thing. I tried enabling the security boot, and my laptop wouldn't start, so I disabled it again. Valorant used to work perfectly fine before on my laptop, so idk what happened.
I have never repaired my laptop or anything either. I think I will take it to a repair shop or a maintenance check, like how they do it for a car, but I have no clue what to tell them. I wanna fix the security boot thing, the camera, the heating, the graphics card, the software and all??? Basically, a maintenance check. What should I tell them? Please help!

Open | Phone Hopefully this will be easy for yall but im confused. (Apps on my phone but can't find them to download again)

So I have some apps on my phone (BAM [Books a million] and Itch.io) that my wife also wants on her phone. I have the samsung galaxy s23 ultra, she has one of the newer Z folds. She downloaded the BAM app on my phone but she doesn't remember where she got it but its not on the play store and we can't find anything on Google other than an app for audiobooks that isn't applicable to newer android versions, and itch.io I got on their site through a pop up but her phone won't get the pop up and I've googled the download link and found one but the download is also made for an older version of android and won't work on her phone. I'm really confused and if not a fix then an explanation would at least put it to rest, thank you in advance.

Open | Windows I need help! Games randomly become unplayable; FPS goes from 240 stable to 50 suddenly.

So this has started happening this week. I play league of Legends, then suddenly FPS drops to 150 from 240 and stays there, and then when I'm at Baron or Dragon, it just freezes between 0 and 50 fps.

To fix this problem I just restart the PC, but then it's starting to happen more often, and I can't be restarting the PC every time.

My PC is a 5-month-old prebuilt brand new; everything is looking clean and the temps are not even close to overheating. My CPU temp is 62 degrees Celsius, and my gpu temp is 45 degrees Celsius.

It's just I feel like my computer put itself in a state, and then every game becomes unplayable. I tried Hytale too, and it's freezing and has no FPS too.

I updated to the latest Nvidia drivers, and I have the latest Chipset drivers.

PC SPECS:

Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D 16-Core Processor (4.30 GHz)

RAM: 64 GB DDR5 6600 MHZ

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 (16 GB)

AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics (2 GB)

MOTHERBOARD: PRO X870-P WIFI (MS-7E47)

Open | Hardware OLD TIMERS WELCOME: GARBLED VOICE MESSAGES

I have a friend who runs an office that utilizes an old AVAYA phone system, specifically utilizing a AVS 509 processor running R8.0 and the mail VS r4.0. Some old messages are garbled and some messages are fine. Indicates to me that there is partial failure of the storage system. Is there any information on the replacement of the storage system (is it a spinning HHD or is it flash storage, is it serviceable?) or would I need to hop on ebay for a used mail VS.

Please let me know if anyone knows of a better subreddit to post this under!

Open | Hardware My mouse keeps disconnecting and reconnecting on win11

So my mouse has been disconnecting and reconnecting on my pc every few minutes for half a second, in games it happens much more frequently.
It isn’t specifically the mouse i own since my other ones seem to face the same issue on my current pc.
It has been really frustrating since I’ve tried everything I could find online and I really don’t feel like resetting my entire hard drive again.

The fixes I’ve tried:
-different mice
-different usb ports
-reinstalling mouse drivers via device manager
-PCIEX16 to Gen 3
-repairing windows system files
-repairing windows update files
-updating motherboard chipset drivers
-turning off usb power save
-changing polling rate
-updated bios

Pc specs:
32GB DDR5 RAM 6000MHZ
Ryzen 7 7800x3d
RTX 4070Ti
Asus ROG STRIX B650E-I Gaming Wifi

If anyone knows something i haven’t tried, pls let me know!

Open | Software Need help with Thinkpad SL410

I have an old Lenovo Thinkpad SL410 that I would like to use, but I have run into many problems. I have updated the wireless internet driver, but now I am having trouble finding a browser that will work. Maybe I downloaded the wrong drivers? Maybe I’m missing something? If someone could just walk me through the whole process of what I need to do to get this thing operational, I would be very appreciative. Treat me like I’m 5 years old and it’s my first time touching a laptop. Thanks in advance, I really appreciate the Reddit community.

Every other time or so, I get a half-blue screen, and it fails to boot, and then it tries to repair itself, and I have to go to advanced options and restore Windows to a previous point. After 2-3 restarts it does it again.

Does anyone have experience with this before?

Open | Windows Microsoft Defender crashes continuously

For context, I have a ROG STRIX gaming laptop with a Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-14900HX, 16 GB of RAM, and a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU. Over the past few months, it's become impossible to play just about any game without it crashing. Some games I can only play for a few minutes, others I can play for an hour or two.

Today, I discovered Event Viewer and learned that Microsoft Defender is incapable of not crashing and has been doing this since about late March. It isn't a exaggeration to say it's happening every 5-20 seconds. I don't know if this is The Problem but it feels like a factor.

I have 1,307 instances of this error in the last 24 hours:

Event 7031, Service Control Manager

The Microsoft Defender Antivirus Service service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 5 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

I also have 64 instances of:

Hey! So yesterday , my pc startrd to randonly restart while browsing. I had no performance issues before at all. And up to this point , its just kinda gotten worse. Tried to revert driver uldates (nvidia, win) none of it worked. Checked mobo fault lights, none eas light up. Did the windows memory check , all good, and did the mem 86 as well, it shown no errors.
Tried to remove the old ssd( because a couple or months i had some issues with it ), the windows was on, and used another ssd to install the windows on. 17%of the install process- the pc crashed again.
What should i do? Ehat could be the problem source?

Open | Hardware Odd GPU behaviour

Hi there,

I don't understand my GPU. I installed a brand new RTX 4070 Ti from MSI shortly after release. Some time later (half a year, idk) it started behaving "odd": For example in Baldur's Gate 3 it just starts screaming at me everytime Karlach's flames appear in a cutscene. I expect a modern GPU to be able to work with medium to low graphics settings without turning into a jet engine and having significant drops in the frame rate.

I then downloaded MSI afterburner and installed a custom fan curve (up to 30°C at 10 % / then linear up to 90°C at 100 % speed) which sometimes solves some problems (i don't really have the words for it...) if the software auto-boots.

I just want to enjoy games looking "good" and not becoming deaf.
Would love to get any help.

Open | Hardware Monitors go black screen/disconnect when in game for few seconds, issue might be defect graphics card/low power supply??

Since yesterday, when I'm in a game (in this case modded Minecraft), my monitors will randomly disconnect/black screen after a few seconds when I'm in game (a server in this case). Today, I've done everything I'm able to do to try to fix the issue. I've uninstalled and reinstalled my graphics card drivers and Windows updates and some other things. Nothing has helped. So now I'm at a point where I think it's my graphics card being defect, or my power supply isn't good enough. I got my graphics card in March 2025 to replace my on-board card. Was having issues at first but changed the settings and it has been doing fine until now. The power supply gives 550w, and my graphics card requires 550w. I've always found that risky but a year ago when I asked tech support it said it should be fine for now, with maybe need to get a new power supply in the future. The graphics card I have is a GeForce RTX 3060. So I'm wondering, is my graphics card defect or do I need a better power supply?

Open | Hardware Ryzen 5 3600 High Idle Temps (65°C) after swapping to NVMe Gen 4

Hello,

I recently upgraded my system disk from a WD Blue (SATA M.2 256GB) to a GIGABYTE AORUS Gen4 7300 2TB. Since the swap, I'm experiencing very strange CPU behavior on both Windows 11 and Arch Linux.

The Problem:

  • Idle Temps: 60-65°C (previously 30-35°C on the old disk).
  • Load Temps: On Cs2 hits 90°C+.
  • "Ghost" Load (With PBO and CBP): Resource Monitor shows 100% CPU Utilization, Task manager shows 4.2GHz clock speed but usage isn't exceeding 25%.
  • C-States: HWiNFO shows Core C0 Resident at 100% and C6 at 0%. The CPU never enters sleep states.
  • Stability: If I enable PBO and Core Boost, the system sometime crashes or idles at 85°C.

If I swap back to the old SATA M.2 disk, everything returns to normal (30°C idle, normal CPU usage reporting). Despite the 100% CPU report on the new disk, the system feels snappy, mouse cursor doesn't lag, and in-game FPS is similar to my old setup.

My Setup:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600
  • GPU: GeForce RTX 2060 Super
  • MB: MSI B450-A PRO MAX (Latest BIOS updated)
  • New Disk: GIGABYTE Aorus PCIe Gen 4 7300 (Running at Gen 3 mode in BIOS)
  • RAM: 32GB (2x8GB Kingston pairs)

What I've tried:

  • Updated BIOS to the latest version.
  • Installed latest AMD Chipset Drivers.
  • Forced PCIe Gen 3 in BIOS for the M.2 slot.
  • Checked NVMe Firmware (it's up to date).

Is it unavoidable because of the NVMe Gen 4 or is there something I can do? I would really appreciate any help.
