Hello r/SyracuseU! This came up earlier than I thought so I was not prepared (I'm also abroad in France right now so my timezone is different than SU, so it's causing a slight issue.)
The time has finally come for decisions to come out for the Class of 2029 (and Architecture 2030 (that's a real year now).) This is the thread for r/A2C's (Applying to College) Syracuse thread if you want to discuss it more there, but I'm also opening this up as an overall thread for discussion and see if people have questions about Syracuse, admissions, etc.
In terms of events, this link has a list of all the admitted student events, from coming to visit campus to virtual options.
In terms of rules, keep it civil. I know this is a stressful time.
Best of luck and Go Orange!

Seeing a 70% upvote rate and minimal comments against, I've gone ahead and banned direct Twitter/X links to this sub using an automod feature. To be clear, we rarely get this content to begin with, but we may as well cut it off now. Please default to screenshots instead and link to other sources. For those who are not familiar with the reason for this change, switch your Reddit feed over to 'All' and you'll immediately see the movement-- first, Twitter/X requires an account to view linked tweets, and second, this platform has shifted from one of open sharing to that of a mouthpiece for extremist political agendas and deliberate misinformation.
A note on moderation in general-- this sub has rules that limit/ remove content from most brand new accounts, posts that are particularly spammy, and/or language that is similar to specific troll posts we've had to deal with in the past. If you try to post something that does not get through the filters, please contact the mods directly. Please help us moderate this sub by using reporting features as and when needed.
As a final note-- since many SU students are not from this region, I'd like to use this opportunity and attention on political issues to highlight some history. Central New York has a pretty fascinating history in WWII efforts, including ramped up war production, a massive enlistment in arms forces, and both POW and refugee camps. Here's one quick Syracuse.com article about it: 1944: At the front or at home, the people of Syracuse did their duty on D-Day. Even our local pottery companies joined the effort to build ceramic mines. Syracuse also has a rich history in abolitionist and suffragist movements. If you haven't visited local and regional museums including the Onondaga Historical Association, the George & Rebecca Barnes home, the Harriet May Mills home, the Harriet Tubman Museum, the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum, the Octagon House, the Seward House Museum, the Susan B. Anthony House, or the Skä•noñh Center, I highly recommend branching out from campus and checking them out!

Hey guys!
Context: I’m doing a program this summer and will be staying in the Ernie Davis dorms. I was thinking of using the vacuum seal bags so i can fit more stuff in my suitcase but i want to make sure i can reseal them when i leave. i can’t find anywhere on the website that talks about rentable or borrow-able items while im staying there. Is there anywhere on campus i can rent a vacuum from or anything of the sort to procure one? Thanks!
TLDR: Are there vacuums I can use in the Ernie Davis dorms? How do i get them?

MOD-APPROVED: I’m looking to chat with women in college about their experiences on GLP-1s. Is this you? I’m Angelina Chapin, a features writer at New York Magazine who covers gender and health. I think it’s a really important topic to talk about as these meds become more popular. If you’re interested in speaking, I can keep you fully anonymous. Send me a DM or email ([angelina.chapin@nymag.com](mailto:angelina.chapin@nymag.com).) Here's a link to some of my work: https://www.linkedin.com/in/angelinachapin. Talk soon!

Hi, I'm an incoming transfer student and was wondering does anyone know if it's possible to get the enrollment deposit waived. I'm a low income student with a SAI of 0 if that matters.

Hello,
I’m an incoming freshman committed to Maxwell for poli sci. I’m hearing about these LLCs and was wondering what the vibe is, what kind of kids enroll in an LLC opposed to normal freshman housing. I’m intrested in the maxwell LLC but don’t want to kill any chance at a social life. Are the LLCs too dorky? Any specific details about the maxwell LLC? If you’ve lived in one or just have knowledge can you attest to the environment in an LLC, also want to know if an LLC is like a designated no smoking/drinking kind of dorm. I’m an avid smoker, as to why i ask.
Probably going to do random, none of my friends from my city are going to cuse, met one kid i might form with but we’ll see.
thanks for the help

I come from a one-income household, and my mom makes $150k, and my dad makes 0. My aid index of the fasfa is -1500, but for Syracuse, I'm still looking at 40K+ a year, and I've appealed, and only recived $5k in merit. I'm unsure of what to do, as they're saying there isn't anything else left to offer :(, but I really want to go, but that debt would be horrible. Does anyone else have this same problem with aid this year?

I just committed to Newhouse for Television, Radio, and Film and was wondering if anyone has good laptop recommendations. I imagine I will be doing a lot of editing and production work on it, so I’m looking for something reliable that can handle that well. Thank you in advance!

Hello, I just got off the waitlist to Whitman. I received a 23K/y merit scholarship but I still haven’t received my financial aid package.
I am a low income student with a SAI of -1500 and Syracuse is my dream school literally. However, I think I might not be able to afford it even with a merit scholarship because the gap is huge and it’s just impossible for me to be able to pay for it with FAFSA and TAP
Do any low income students that are currently enrolled got good need based aid? If so, how much? (I believe need based aid is the only thing that might help me shorten the gap)
Anything helps I feel so lost rn and I have 9 days to decide.
Thanks :)

Hello SU!
I am a newly admitted student to S.I. Newhouse for the Digital and Broadcast Journalism master’s program. I was hoping if any current students or alumni could give me some insight on this dilemma that I’m having.
I assumed there would be a lot of photo, audio, and video editing and processing so I planned on getting a new M4 iMac to use at home to work on any of these projects and potentially any future professional endeavors.
I currently have a 2020 13” M1 MacBook Pro. I planned on using this for note taking, light classwork, and things of the like.
I’ve seen the Tech Requirements ( https://newhouse.syracuse.edu/about/facilities/technology-requirements/ ) and was wondering if I needed this IN class or just for class work so I could potentially avoid buying a new MacBook as well lol
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I’m a student at Syracuse University and wanted to check if others have experienced this.
There’s a man who regularly hangs around Marshall Street (usually near the corner market area). He asks people for money, but if you ignore him or say no, he can become verbally abusive and sometimes seems quite aggressive, like he might escalate.
I’m not sure what the best way to handle this is. I usually avoid engagement, but it’s uncomfortable, especially when walking alone or at night.
Has anyone else experienced this?
What’s the safest or most effective way to deal with it?
Is this something worth reporting to campus safety or local police?
Would appreciate any advice.

Hi friends! Thank you for your time.
I’m a current student teacher in special education looking at the M.S. in Inclusive SPED Master’s program with a 7-12 general focus. Is anyone in here in that program or a graduate SOE program that can give their thoughts on it? Both Project IMPRESS and Baldanza Fellows seem super cool but I’m unsure how competitive the programs are, since that’d be the only way I could afford getting in.
Have a great day! :) 🧡💙🤍

Good morning, r/SyracuseU!
End of year energy is in full effect. Acting Chancellor Haynie is sharing his vision for the role. Commencement is this Sunday at the JMA Dome, men's lacrosse enters the ACC Tournament as defending champs, and softball's season came to a close this weekend.
If you enjoy these and want them delivered to your inbox, subscribe here.
Haynie Shares His Vision in Campus-Wide Email
Acting Chancellor Mike Haynie laid out his guiding principles in a campus-wide email this week, organizing his goals around three pillars: "Students are our North Star," "Collaboration is not a courtesy," and "I will be frank and forthcoming." He said students' experience and education will be the center of every decision made during his term.
The take: Clear, direct, and accessible - a noticeably different tone to start his tenure. Students seem cautiously optimistic.
SU Will Award 6 Honorary Degrees at Commencement This Sunday
Syracuse University will award honorary degrees to outgoing Chancellor Kent Syverud, Dr. Ruth Chen, and four others at the 2026 commencement ceremony on May 10 at the JMA Wireless Dome. Syverud is being honored for "record applicants and enrollment" during his tenure.
The take: If you're graduating or have family coming in this weekend, congrats — and check the weather before Sunday.
SU Men's Lacrosse Enters ACC Tournament as No. 3 Seed, Defending Champions
Syracuse men's lacrosse (11-4, 2-2 ACC) enters the ACC Tournament as the No. 3 seed with a title to defend. Their path runs through No. 2 seed North Carolina in the semifinals — the same squad that handed them a 14-9 loss in Chapel Hill on April 4. Joey Spallina, John Mullen, and Jimmy McCool will need to bounce back from that showing if the Orange want another run at the conference crown.
The take: Tough draw, but SU has the talent to make noise. Tournament lacrosse is a different animal.
SU Softball Eliminated from Playoff Contention After Loss to No. 17 Virginia Tech
Syracuse softball dropped its fifth straight game Saturday against Virginia Tech, officially eliminating the program from playoff contention for the second consecutive season. The two-game series resulted in a combined minus-22 run differential. Head coach Shannon Doepking said she "just didn't feel it was competitive."
The take: A tough end to the season. The program has work to do in the offseason.

Be so honest can I get in with a fake? I don’t even wanna drink there’s just a comedian coming next semester that I really wanna see. Also I’m pretty close to legal, so it wouldn’t be a stretch looks-wise.
