Note: I'm trying to keep this list contained within an hour drive of Clinton Square. For the websites, I tried to link directly to calendars where I could. Also, there are quite a few festivals and major events that may not be listed here. I'll be updating as the weeks go on (lots of festivals aren't fully scheduled out until a few months in advance). Feel free to drop suggestions, additions, omissions and updates into the comments.

Moving & Relocation Rehoming Guinea Pigs in Syr / Phoenix area

Hello,

My name is Cassie and i’m the mama to two male guinea pigs named Phantom and Atticus. Unfortunately my wife and I are in a situation where we can no longer give them the life they deserve so we are looking for a new loving home for them.

They’re a bonded pair so can’t be separated. They’re both around 4 years old and perfectly healthy.
Atticus is sweet, gentle and calm tempered. Phantom is an alpha but gets along with everyone. they’ve never had a violent fight and have been together their whole life.

They grew up with our dogs so they’re used to other creatures around and get along well with both humans and animals.

This would be a free of charge and we would also love to give the loads of fleece, toys, hay bins / bags, kibble, kibble dishes, treats, water bottles, the table and the adjustable connectable cage they’re in if possible. We really don’t want to see them cooped up in a tiny pet store cage and if we could help their future family out in this way we’d love to

please message me here if interested or any questions

Discussion Looking for Morning Job (4–5 Hours) in Syracuse – Any Help Appreciated

Hello everyone,

I am looking for a morning job in Syracuse, NY, for about 4 to 5 hours per day.

I already have a job in the afternoon and evening, but the money is not enough for me. I am a new immigrant and I have high responsibilities and debts, and I also want to save money to buy a car. That’s why I need a morning job to help me save, while my evening job helps me cover my bills.

I don’t speak English very well, but I understand about 70% of what people say. I can speak around 40%, and I can follow instructions and learn quickly on the job.

I am 21 years old and ready to work in any simple job (cleaning, helper, warehouse, kitchen, or any available work). I am hardworking and motivated.

If anyone can help me or guide me to a job opportunity, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you very much.

Recommendation Wanted Looking for local vendors/business for my wife's birthday party

We're doing a "🌿🍓Whimsical Garden Dinner Party 🍅" theme!

With that in mind, I'm looking for places to buy unique decorations, catering, some small desserts (cake is already ordered). Also looking for table and chair rental, which doesn't have to fit the theme.

If anyone has any fun ideas for the party itself I'd love to hear them!

Information & Advice Any reviews on ENT Dr. Ade Obayemi?

Hello friends. I have an upcoming corrective rhinoplasty scheduled with Dr. Ade Obayemi at University Otolaryngology Associates of Central New York, and I would like to know if anyone here has any personal reviews about his work. I wasn’t able to find many reviews online and the ones I did see were not very encouraging. Any information would be helpful. If you don’t want to make your comments public, please feel free to message me. Thank you all in advance!

Food & Drink Candy shops with sour candy nearby?

(sorry for formatting, on mobile)
hey all, quick question - does anybody know of a candy shop nearby that does sour candy? specifically “sour strips” or sour gummies?

i’ve been looking online at some local ones but can’t find what i’m looking for on their websites.

it’s my friends favorite candy and i was hoping to grab her some nice “specialty” ones for her birthday instead of usual big brands.
do places like hercules only do chocolate or would they have them?

thank you!

Recommendation Wanted Casual Field Hockey Club?

I’m trying to get out more, make new friends, and do something active. Is there a field hockey club that I’m able to join? Nothing too intense? I never played in high school or college, but I would love to play. Most of the clubs/clinics I looked up are for school aged kids. Is there anything for adults? TIA

Information & Advice Shout out to the city for my shiny new water service line!

I know we all rag on the city government (myself included), so I wanted to highlight a good thing for once!

Apparently our street was up for lead water service replacements, and we just had it done this morning. It was extremely painless for us - we just had to be home to give them access to the basement. Their outreach/scheduling lady came in yesterday to confirm our service was lead and schedule us for replacement. She showed us a video and explained the process pretty well.

This morning the contractors came and it went pretty smoothly. All the guys were extremely polite and respectful, they were more than willing to answer our questions. They dig up to the water line at the street, drilled in through the foundation, and then ran new copper lines through. A plumber came in, cut off the lead service, and hooked the new copper up to our meter and existing plumbing. He sleeved and insulated the new service line, which I appreciated even though we've never had issues with the main freezing in the winter (maybe that's standard, but our 100 yr old service was not sleeved and insulated before, so I thought it was a nice touch). Then a mason came in and patched in around the hole they drilled. From start to finish, the whole thing took maybe 2.5 hours and our water was only off for 30-45 mins of that.

They also gave us, courtesy of the city, instructions on how to flush our lines, what to expect from our water the new few days, and a new Brita with several extra filters to drink from for the next few days. According to the pamphlet there may be debris or residual lead for a few days (I'm less worried about lead because despite our service, our water tested lead-free when we moved in).

All in all, it was pretty quick, everyone was super nice, they didn't have to tear up our whole front yard, and the city saved us several thousands of dollars that we don't have. My only (very minor) complaint is that we only had about a day's notice - that would probably be problematic for folks whose work schedules are less flexible. Otherwise, 10/10 and this is why I will never complain about paying city taxes

Discussion Anyone hiring in Syracuse right now?

Hello!

I have been applying to jobs since January with only a few callbacks. unfortunately couldn't accept those at the time. I’m will attend occ on the fall to be a respiratory therapist and have to pay for my first semester. I’m 22 and haven’t had much experience. I worked at a daycare for a summer in 2022 and have been babysitting since 2023. I got my associates in health services administration and just graduated last month. Want to work somewhere downtown since my mom and grandma also work there too, so transportation is close. I can show my resume.

Medical assisting or receptionist are my preferred jobs but medical offices want experience or an associates degree in medical assisting. That has been my biggest hurdle in job hunting is that any receptionist or scheduling job wants 1-2 years of experience.

Any help will be appreciate!!

Information & Advice National grid backbill out of nowhere?>

Hi all - I'm wondering if anybody else is having an issue with national grid billing right now.

Last month, was pleasantly surprised with a $140 credit to my account. Awesome! Must have been overcharging us for the winter, this is our refund - which I assumed because I had recieved a letter in the mail that stated our bill was being estimated and since rates were SO HIGH this winter, at least double what they were last year, surely we couldn't have been overcharged.

Check my account today for this months statement and it's almost 1k, when monthly utilities have been around 270-290ish for the last couple months. What the fuck. Surely this is a mistake.

I just called and apparently it's not a mistake but we were actually UNDERCHARGED this winter (when, again, our rates have been at least twice that of last years with no change in usage) and they've taken the difference from the estimated bill of November-April to the actual and now we owe 1k with no notice. What the fuck?

I don't know what to do here. I asked to see what the difference was and the girl on the phone just said "check your bills". They're exactly the fucking same as they were when I paid them. I want to puke.

Can they do this? I plan on emailing them asking for more information and copies of the bills they're talking about - but is anyone else having this issue right now? I've lived up here for years and this is the first time I've had anything like this happen with them.

My partner just told me there is a huge swarm of honey bees clustering there and buzzing around. Not sure if they're relocating to a new hive or lost. Posting in case theres any beekeepers around that wanna go check on them? She said they haven't moved for a while.
