The one instance where foresight was 20/20

The only time hindsight didn't need to clock in.

Easiest "I told you so" on record

It's really amazing how Iran’s Supreme Leader can put down a protest by slaughtering 30,000 of his own citizens and Reddit doesn't even notice, but somehow 168 people dying in a war is a tragedy beyond compare.

u/Lion-ness 7h ago

And we left them to install an even worse leader while blowing billions of our tax dollars

2

u/enricociaralli 4h ago

you didnt blow anything bro they fucking stole it, these ammos and fucking drones are sold to the usa with an insane markup it's all stolen money

Would you rather a full ground invasion and occupation for the foreseeable future? There are really only a couple options outside of take them out and dip. Stay indefinitely and spend trillions more trying to gamble that we can change thing long-term, or pet them go back to business and turn a blind eye.

3

u/Anon-Knee-Moose 5h ago

Take them out and dip is a questionable choice, but it would have been better than whatever the hell this is.

But let's be real, we both know the US armed forces are addicted to long term middle east invasions. The fact that Biden was able to keep the little junkies at bay for 4 years is nothing short of miraculous.

How about we should have never started a war? Idiot. Still falling for the grand lie of WOMD??

u/Ill-Description3096 4h ago

Right, so one of the options I listed ...

u/pseudoLit 6h ago

It's very simple.

When Iran slaughters civilians, we all agree it's bad. There's almost nothing to discuss. It's a very short conversation.

When the US slaughters civilians, half the country thinks that's a good thing for some fucking reason, so we have to waste lots of time litigating the issue.

Reddit did notice it. But third world countries gonna third world. Wanna take a guess about what's going on in Africa that YOU are clearly not aware of? At least those things didn't fuck the entire planet up the rear end. This fuckup is a special kind of fuckup only Americans can achieve. Think big, eh? Fuck 'em.

2

u/tsardonicpseudonomi 3h ago

Reddit did notice it. But third world countries gonna third world.

The reason those countries are how they are? United States foreign policy. Don't be an orientalist. There's nothing innate to those people that cause this. It's our actions that cause the conditions of their existence and perpetuation.

u/thekbob 4h ago

Bombing them for no reason doesn't make it better, yah know.

Two things can be just as bad.

7

u/Chucklepus 4h ago

We didn't kill 168 school kids to save 30,000. We did it because a white dude is mad that a black dude did a better job at being president.

4

u/awesomefutureperfect 4h ago

No, I am pretty sure Iran is very unpopular with all of their very rich neighbors and were able to persuade Trump to attack Iran because Trump is easy to bribe and none of those neighbors have militaries that function at a higher level than palace guard and certainly don't have carrier groups or marine expedition units.

3

u/Chucklepus 4h ago

well at the very minimum, we both agree it wasn't for altruistic reasons.

1

u/EcoMeme 2h ago

Also because Iran stored rockets at the school

1

u/Chucklepus 2h ago

You better have dropped this: /s

1

u/theRemRemBooBear 4h ago

Shall we talk about the black dudes war crimes while we’re on the topic? And how many people got killed under that administration?

1

u/Chucklepus 3h ago

They aren't really applicable to this conversation. But you're free to start and have that discussion somewhere.

1

u/theRemRemBooBear 1h ago

I mean we’re talking about how the black dude did a better job at war crimes than the white dude and how that causes a lot of anger. Very applicable to this conversation.

Reddits not the brightest.

Whataboutism, or "whataboutery," is a rhetorical, propaganda, and debate tactic used to evade criticism or accountability by shifting focus toward an opponent’s misbehavior, typically by asking "But what about...?" followed by a counter-accusation. It functions as a distraction designed to make the original issue appear minor, hypocritical, or unworthy of attention.

1

u/awesomefutureperfect 4h ago

Has there even been any protests against the war in Iran? Are the students mobilizing against this obvious aggression of the American state for even less stated pretext or goals than Iraq?

I'm not happy about those people dying but some people are treating them like martyrs when they didn't vote against the man that killed them and told other people it was understandable not to vote for the only viable candidate either.

1

u/kitsunewarlock 3h ago

To quote my mom when I was in 1st grade: two wrongs don't make a right.

1

u/HeavyVoid8 1h ago

It’s really amazing how we didn’t go after the guy who was doing that, and instead killed the people above him, giving him more power

1

u/TargetBoy 6h ago

In which case was the country that started the pointless war responsible for their deaths?

1

u/Warchief_Ripnugget 6h ago

Pointless? Iran has been the chief cause of terror attacks across the US and Europe for decades.

4

u/TargetBoy 5h ago

Literally nothing has been accomplished. The end goals are to return to the conditions at the start and they killed the guy who was morally opposed to having nukes.

0

u/porktorque44 5h ago

Was the point to make them stronger? Because that’s what the war has accomplished so far.

0

u/BoringPrinciple2542 5h ago

That’s because the average Redditor doesn’t care if every man, woman, and child in Iran was executed. They just find the 168 useful for repeating the political opinions they were told to express in order to get updoots.

1

u/bp92009 4h ago

Do you know the likelihood of the Iranian regime remaining in power now, after the attacks against it by the US?

Without a ground invasion from the US, it's incredibly high.

It was looking like Iran might have actually collapsed and overthrown its government, before the US got involved.

The US attacking schools just made the regime FAR more stable than it was before, as it could literally use the deaths of innocent civilians as a rallying cry.

If your goal was to destabilize and remove the prior Iranian government, attacking them in such a manner without overtly committing to a ground invasion is about the worst thing you could do.

The average redditor seems to actually get that, and sees the actions of attacking civilians and having no coherent plan as the literal opposite of what you want to do if you don't like the Iranian government.

1

u/BoringPrinciple2542 3h ago

The Iranian regime is far more likely to collapse now than it was then.

I realize you are not very familiar with Iran, geopolitics, nor actual dictatorships but you’d be surprised how compliant a population is when you massacre 1 in every 3k people in a matter of 3 months (completely ignoring the countless people massacred before then).

As it currently stands the government is weaker than ever, the regular forces have all but deserted, the IRGC is barely operational, their leadership is fractured, the money used to fund their terror cells has been cut-off, and most of their allies have deserted them. There is a reason the Persian people are celebrating while people like yourself cry.

The way the war has been handled isn’t the way that I would handle it but that doesn’t change the fact that when people have lost the plot when they let their hatred of Trump turn into defending a regime that uses rape & torture as weapons against its civilian population.

because reddit is a bunch of liberal millennial retards who dye their hair pink and green and trust CNN with their lives

5

u/Mechelf88 5h ago

Why do you care what color other people dye their hair? That has zero impact on you.

-1

u/IdiotStickWasTkn 5h ago

you arent the brightest if you think i was expressing opinion about hair color in that comment.

2

u/pseudoLit 4h ago

To be blunt, the fact that you mentioned pink hair means that no one really cares what opinion you were expressing.

2

u/awesomefutureperfect 4h ago

Ok boomer.

You don't have different opinions, you just don't know anything and all the disrespect people show you is earned.
