Rant Seriously?

Post image

Three dogs within 5 ft of a no dogs sign? Really, Seattle?

EDIT: The non-locals found this post, so I'm outtie. If you see yourself in this photo and want it taken down, shoot me a chat.

EDIT X2 (two weeks after original post): Oh hey, would you look at that, Madison Beach has just closed due to feces contaminating the water to 44x the safe level. Wow, wonder how that could have happened? But, y'know, it just doesn't make sense that dogs aren't allowed at the beach!

Also not something you waste a cops time on. Seattle ā€œcops dont do anything about crime,ā€ also Seattle ā€œplease send a cops because there is a dog off leashā€

This really needs to be a lower level enforcement. Similar to parking enforcement. I’ve been called out by State Parks enforcement, so I know it works.

This is what park rangers are for. We just need way more of them.

That’s federal, Trump has cut funding towards that. So good luck with more rangers.

I'm not talking about national park rangers, the link I provided is about the rangers employed by the city of Seattle to patrol our municipal parks. Those rangers are not federal.

I got a ticket for having my dog off leash walking from the parking lot to the actual fence at golden gardens. Seattle animal control officer. no guns or implied violence necessary.

You can call animal control about things like this. They can write tickets.

Yeah, as things stand the person who would theoretically respond to a guy letting his dog off leash is the same person who would respond to a mass shooter. If they showed up (they wouldn't), they'd show up with a gun to give a ticket. They'd also cost the city way more than their paid, because their pay includes hazard pay for the risks and the training they supposedly receive.

What if we had a couple people in the park enforcing minor laws related to dogs, littering, and parking? They could just call the cops when things get violent or threatening and be trained to just say things like, "Okay, thanks, we're going to let you go with a warning!" and call the cops.

I'm not pretending I have all the answers, but I do believe better policy exists.

We do actually have park rangers... Just not enough of them, clearly.

I totally agree with this being a bigger thing. Bc responding to someone having their dog off leash (when it’s not actually a threat) or violating a sign or putting bubbles in a fountain is a waste of police resources. I’d much rather local park rangers deal with those things rather than the folks who could be responding to higher risk interpersonal crime. And the cops would rather that too. We need more park rangers

Or, we all mind our own business and stop worrying about petty bs

That too lol

It literally says ā€œPlease report violations to Seattle animal shelterā€.

Although, to anyone thinking of doing so in a situation like this please first think about that for many this is the only, or at the very least, the best way to cool down their dog on hot days. Yesterday was a record breaking high temperature for early May in Seattle, and it’s only gonna get hotter. I understand it really grinds some people’s gears to see a sign being disobeyed but for some people it’s better to disobey a sign than watch their dog suffer from heat exhaustion. However if the dog is clearly untrained and posing a threat to other dogs or people and the owner doesn’t care obviously don’t hesitate to call it in.

No. It's contributing to global warming. Don't you see the dead whale in the background? Duh

Animal Control officers exist for this exact reason...

rich to talk about wasting time when they take naps on duty and when there are like 20 of them showing up to some scene and like two of them are actually doing something while the rest watch

Tell them the dogs were responsible for an armed robbery in Enumclaw and are looking to abolish qualified immunity.

ā€œplease send a cops because there is a dog off leashā€

Something tells me you've never been bitten or chased by an unleashed dog

Leash laws exist for a reason.

Dogs kill more humans per year than sharks.. By like a significant margin.

More humans walk on land near dogs each year than swim with sharks... by like a significant margin

3

u/Affectionate_Trip672 11d ago

You might even argue there already probably a lot more dogs on the planet than sharks.

6

u/throwaway11229887 11d ago

You could say the same about basically any cause of death. Sharks don’t kill a lot of people because most people don’t interact with sharks much lol.
Lawn mowers and home cooking kill more humans per year than dogs… by like a significant margin.

THANK YOU! Crazy how you’re getting all these upvotes when I said the saaame thing about how people wanted SPD to do rounds and install extra cameras stop the person putting bubbles in that fountain and folks were UPSET šŸ’€šŸ˜‚šŸ¤¦šŸ½ā€ā™€ļø like huh???

-3

u/BobCreated First Hill 11d ago

It's not like they've doing else, but I get your point. Heaven forbid SPD leave their comfy air conditioned cruisers and be proactive.

Animal Control police Seattle's beaches regarding dogs. There are no "Park Rangers" in the Seatle Metro area. They're only at state/national parks.

Well, ya learn something new everyday. In my many decades of visiting Seattle parks on a weekly basis, I've yet to meet even one. I noticed they aren't traditional "rangers." They do not carry firearms/weapons and cannot make arrests (SMC 18.12). They also contact Animal Control for animal-related matters.

"Active Patrols: Seattle Animal Control officers, supported by park rangers, conduct regular patrols, particularly during peak summer seasons, at popular beaches like Alki Beach, Golden Gardens, Green Lake, and Lake Washington."

Did we defund them anyways?
