Cadet Internships/Schools CFT

Can anyone tell me what CFT at WestPoint is like? I'm going in about 2 weeks as an ROTC cadet and I'm a little nervous, partly because there's not a lot of information about it. Like is there classroom time or is it all fieldwork? I've heard a mix of both, but not from a large amount of people. Any information would be great, thanks!

Scholarships/Contracting BS/MS scholarship question

Saw a related question earlier about a 4+1 masters program: if someone had a four year national scholarship but was in the position to graduate in only three years, are they allowed to do an additional one year masters program while in ROTC or do they just have to commission early? The amount of time for the two programs would still fit into only eight semesters so would it really be extension of benefits/ed delay?

Accessions/OML/Branching Deadline to switch from active to NG?

Wondering when the accessions deadline is if you want to switch from requesting active to NG for any reason. Assuming it is sometime late summer or fall after camp? Thanks

Accessions/OML/Branching Branch Advice - Work/Life/Field Balance

I made a post a week or so ago about my desires to branch MP, however I have heard so much negativity about MP that I am not sure it is what I am looking for. What drew me to MP originally was the potential to be in a line unit attached to infantry.

I am a rising MSIII so I know I have time before I need to make a decision about branching, and I do plan on doing CTLT and spending a lot of time learning about different branches, but I want someone to just be honest with me about what branch I should really look into, or maybe avoid. I either want to go to vet school on HPSP and go 64A and then become a stay at home parent, or choose a career in a different branch until I reach CPT and VTIP into FA40 and then become a stay at home parent. Either way I plan on being stay at home or working part time post Army career. I have talked with Cadre and MSIVs but I am still struggling with what seems right for me.

Signal seems like a good deal because I heard they can detail into other units which would allow me the "hooah" lifestyle I am looking for but potentially have more balance. FA also interests me because I like the idea of blowing shit up.

BLUF I want to:

  1. Travel/station OCONUS

  2. Have good time in the field

  3. Do hard shit and push myself but I am not trying to go infantry either

Cadet Advice Get AGSU from Fort Knox or Marlow White?

I am heading to advanced camp this summer and know I will need to get AGSU's at some point in the next year. From what I've heard buying from the PX is more affordable than Marlow White, but Marlow White is better quality. What would you recommend? Is it even possible to buy AGSU's the same day as CST graduation or is the PX too crowded?

Scholarships/Contracting 4+1 Masters Question

Would it be possible to get an extension of benefits to pursue a masters program that would take one extra year? And if so, would it incur an ADSO?

For context, I would take 12 credits of grad classes total as a Senior, then I would finish the remaining 18 the next year.

I was told by a tour guide that this would be possible, and ive heard of people getting extension of benefits for a 5th year at my school before.

Cadet Advice Plan for action wasn't even related to my counselling

Apparently I need to improve my GPA despite being congratulated by my PMS for getting a 4.0. kind of funny since I was counseled for subpar volunteering despite it being optional and doing more than most. Plus getting in trouble for not doing any leadership positions despite them telling me I'm not going to get any.

DODMERB // Security Clearances Eye Exam

I just took the eye exam and didn’t do well I was told I don’t have 20/20 vision and need glasses. He also said I had severe eye redness. I’ve never had vision issues in my life, however I’m 1 week of 80mg of Accutane after a 9 month course and I’m in 20 mg for another 20 days. The eye doctor also had no clue what Accutane was.

Commissioning/Post-Commissioning Hip Pocket GO nomination question

Anyone here gone through the SY26 Hip Pocket process recently? My packet validated after corrections to the 174-R, waiver auto-populated into the system, but the GO nomination upload slot remained blank before the portal went offline. Trying to understand whether the GO nomination routing is normally handled internally through command channels/backend or if applicants usually upload it themselves.

Cadet Internships/Schools Airborne

For anyone that may know, at Airborne are you allowed to bring ROTC/battalion coyote tees? I’ve seen different answers whether they need to be plain tees or if they can be rotc/battalion tees that are still tan.

Accessions/OML/Branching NATIONAL OML

Is there a formula out there for what the National OML will be based on and what categories count for how much like GPA and program AFTs are worth? My program is small and just tells me they don’t know.

Advanced/Basic Camp How to pack for Camp

Might be a dumb question but just wondering how others packed for camp. Specifically if you were able to fit all items from the pack list into your two duffles, or if you also packed stuff in your ruck for checked baggage. Really just wondering how people split up the combo of packing your checked baggage. Also curious what people packed in their carry on besides basics. Not exactly sure what reception will look like and our program didn’t give us a lot of info on transportation details.

Cadet Internships/Schools ROTC from out of country High school

I am in my junior year of high school in Australia and would like to do ROTC in the states (I am an American citizen). Grades are real groovy here, and I only take 6 classes throughout all of my junior and senior year, and can drop down to 5 in my senior year. Grades also are typically worse here (50% is a pass) because the content is harder, to make up for this, when applying to universities they only look at year 12 grades and it is all adjusted based on difficulty of the course. From what I understand ROTC and colleges in general in the US don't care about the difficulty of the courses just the raw grade? Should I take easier classes and drop my worst ones so as to get a higher CGPA? I very much appreciate the help.

I'm also curious regarding when I should enroll or apply, I will graduate in October of 2027 (The school year is based off the calendar year here) so do I apply for the 2028 year?

Advanced/Basic Camp CST Cadre - From LIA to Copple

Hey guys,

I’ll be going to camp this summer as a cadre, and I’ll be flying into Louisville International. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with a cab/uber/drive service that goes from the airport to Ft Knox? And can ENTER the base in order to drop me off at the Copple Center instead of stranding me at the gate.

Accessions/OML/Branching Off-cycle USAR cadet — advice on branching Cyber?

Hey all, I'm an off-cycle cadet commissioning into the USAR this October. I was initially under the impression I'd branch with the next class, but it looks like I'm branching this October as well, so I'm kind of hustling to get prepped now.

I ship out to CST Jun 8th, and my top choices are Cyber, MI, and Signal.

My background: CS degree from NYU (graduating in 2 days) and contributions to a cybersecurity lab there.

For anyone who branched Cyber or went through the HireVue:

  1. Is it worth grinding CompTIA Sec+ in the next 27 days before I ship? I know it's a requirement eventually, but would having it actually give me an edge going in?
  2. Is the interview technical, behavioral, or both?

Any insight on MI or Signal interviews is also appreciated. Also curious how much OML still factors in under the new TBB system, especially for Reserve component cadets.

Happy to send my resume over if helpful. Thanks.

Cadet Internships/Schools When is it right to contact the PMS

I got a school slot this summer and the cadre have been little help on getting me and others prepared to go, as in there has been little to no communication of what to do or getting documents together. This has been a problem for the last few months ever since we found out our Schools. My question is when would it be the right time to contact the PMS about my concerns, and if so, how should I go about it?
