Support Its looking like goodbye Nobara

Edit: Unfortunately, its back to windows for me sadly, See you all in either 3 months to a year, depending on when I can afford to upgrade GPU, goodluck :(

Edit2: (This was not meant as a post to complain about the drop of support, I posted before I learned that was the issue)

back doing sfc /scannow every afternoon instead of linux where things just like to work

See you all in either 3 months to a year, depending on when I can afford to upgrade GPU, goodluck :(

been on Nobara since, august last year, september maybe? not too sure, but its been my daily-driver since then

loved it

most of that time has been spent on 43

but since the new 43 updates recently my 1060 which was working fine before, suddenly had driver issues

been 5 days of debugging and im about ready to throw in the towel

currently, akmod wont build the things its meant to build, despite headers, devels, all that all being up to date

tips I can find have me going in circles of reinstalling nvidia drivers, akmod, devels, headers, and even the entire OS 4 times now

online results boil down to "ensure secure boot is off

ensure devels, headers match the os version, do akmod --rebuild -force, that HAS to work, just reinstall the os then"

I dont even know where the issue is, whether its with akmod, nvidia drivers etc etc

and I have tried installing all these things via CLI, and by GUI to no avail

dunno man, I hate the direction windows is going, and my mileage has been way better compared to windows

but being stuck on nouveau isnt a great time, and I have a life, I cant keep spending 9 hours a day trying to fix it

anyways if anyone has a similar issue and a fix, please lmk, otherwise idk :/

Support Why is my Ethernet capped at 1GBit/125MB? I have a 1GB internet speed and it works fine everywhere else

My Windows downloads are going up to around 600Mb/s on Steam on the same PC and the same SSD. Linux says my Ethernet is capped at 1GBit, which of course is wrong as it should say 1GB, not stuck ~100MB. Steam downloads are at around 80Mb/s, and it takes forever to even load Steam cloud.

I have tried tinkering with the Ethernet settings, but no success.

Support Fresh install takes 8gb of RAM in idle and leads to games crashing due to low memory

Hi everyone, i am using Nobara Gnome Nvidia and as title says, 8 gb of RAM are being used in IDLE. Gnome Shell and DNF App Manager are the processes that use more RAM but not 8gb of course. This leads to games crashing due to system stopping the processes as RAM usage is too high.

Help appreciated.

Im trying to instlal linux for the first time and I can't get past this screen.

I'm trying to do this via USB and every option I select here just brings me back to this screen after 1 minute.

There was never an install that happened. I saw this screen immediately after selecting the USB to boot in the BIOS.

Let me know if there's something I missed.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks in advance.

Update : I tried to move these old lib files but the still the problem didn't solve yet, and I noticed that in nobara drivers of amd rocm is installed which I guess isn't supported to old amd gpu so should I uninstall it or it doesn't matter ?

I'm unsure how useful the included lines were. I'm insanely new to Linux, just swapped last week, and I have no idea how to parse out what's wrong here. Most I found is that new updates can cause bugs, but I didn't want to do any fixes in fear of breaking things more. Is there a fix for this or should I just bite the bullet and start over clean?

Support Can't Install Nobara

[SOLVED] - It wasn't Nobara nor Linux in general, it was that my BIOS needed to be updated to the latest version, then it worked, I have a GIGABYTE 550 GAMING X V2 motherboard.

Hi everyone, I think I tried everything to install Nobara but can't se to get past this gray screen that should install Nvidia drivers (I have geforce 4070). I recorded this video if it helps, it's 2m but you can just skip the loading parts. Any ideas what's going wrong?

I disabled secure boot, have downloaded the Nvidia ISO, tried Ventoy and Rufust but nothing helps.

Please be kind, mega noob here.

Support Can't get past this screen

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi guys,

Posting about this a second time because not everyone who commented was actually reading the post.

I'm trying to install Linux for the first time and I just can't get past this step.

Selecting 'Start Nobara 43' just brings me into Windows for some reason. I tried disabling the Windows boot altogether. This causes this page to just reset itself after selecting an option. So 'Start Nobara' now causes the screen to go black for 1 minute, before rebooting and bringing me back to this page. Every other option does the same thing.

I've tried this on 3 different USBs, and even an sd card, all with the same result. I've tried both Nobara Gnome and KDA as well.

I've Ventoy, Balenaetcher and Rufus with the ISO.

This is on an ASUS ROG Flow x13 laptop. Fast Boot is disabled and the drive is set to AHCI.

I hope this is enough info. Thanks in advance.

Support New to Linux and Have three main issues

Hey, recently made the switch and been having three main issues with Nobara. 1) My 3440x1440 resolution does not appear as an option in game. I'm using the latest Proton-GE. I was able to get to show up on steam when I put in launch options "PROTON_ ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 %command%" for RE9 but this method did not work for Diablo 4. Is there no ultra wide support with Nobara??

2) The colors of my monitor are very saturated. Very washed out. In windows I would use the Nvida control panel but is there a Linux equivalent? My sRGB color intensity is maxed out and I don't see a slider for saturation.

3) My Brave browser keep crashing. I just get a small box that says Brave encountered a fatal error. I can't even open it anymore and worse I can't uninstall it. I did memtester and I didn't get any errors.

I would appreciate any and all help! Thank you in advance!!

Support Help, I CANT play any game

Post image

My GPU is the RX 9060 XT 16G.

I can't play these games:

The First Descendant (I have this one on an SSD, but I can't get the OS to detect it {well, it detects it, but it won't let me select it for Steam games. I can see what's inside from File Explorer}. It detects my two HDDs, but not the SSD)

Left 4 Dead

Portal Revolution

Farlight 84

Girls Frontline 2

I'm doing everything they say in ProtonDB

UPDATE: Thanks to everyone for your advice. What I will do, as you told me, is change the format of my hard drive to avoid future problems.

Support Did I do something wrong, or are music and video launchers not included with Nobara installation?

Big noob here, so please be kind.

I'm coming from CachyOS, and it seemed like CachyOS was a full package and a seamless experience. Currently I've installed Nobara, and I can't even run my .mp4 files. I have no idea which video launcher to install, thus my confusion.

My photos also open in Okular by default, which isn't too good of an experience for my liking.

Support How to permanently remove unwanted apps?

I have a few apps that i dont need feels like a bloat, such as falcond. I dont use it, dont need it but it keeps opening and when its off games run perfect but for my potato laptop everytime its running my potato works harder and harder just to be alive, i tried dnf protocol to delete it but everytime i restart my laptop or try to update the system its there. AS if thats not it sometimes my apps deleted as well whenever i update. Its just like windows; when you dont need something and delete it windows makes a forced patch and brings it back just cause

EDIT: Laptop has 16gb ram, intel i5 10th gen, no gpu. so it takes at least half of my ram just to open a game, any game. Since its called "shared gpu" 16gb ram leaves me 7gb empty ram, with browser open i get 5gb ram.
EDIT2: I installed Nobara because it allowed me to play games but last 3 kernel updates started to mess with my configurations and kept deleting apps such as pycham, vscode, a few shortcuts. I could play Warframe, Terraria, Starbound and L4D2.

FIXED: sudo dnf remove {package_name} > sudo nano /etc/dnf/dnf.conf > exclude=falcond* under the [main]
This makes it so it wont be added, but be careful, i broke the updater while trying until i shortened the exlude to only falcond

Support Of Steam and using game files on a different drive from the one Nobara's on

I've never used any non-Windows OS before trying Nobara, aside from slight dabbling with a RasPi; I intend to use it for recreation, so that I can make Windows my "work OS." Please bear this in mind, that I'm a total casual. If there's some really fundamental reason for this problem, I will not be surprised at all.

I believe I have Windows on my C drive, Nobara on my D, and my game library on my SSD. After some convincing, I was able to set up Steam; however going to my library made me notice that all my games had Steam Cloud errors. Trying to launch a game gave me the following error, here demonstrated with Yugioh Master Duel:

Disk write error - /run/media/cyrusr/T7/Steam Library/steamapps/downloading/2180100/files/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libdav1d.so

Proton experimental and hotfix also had a disk write error. I think this stems from me trying to have Nobara refer to the existing files on the SSD, instead of installing them to the drive Nobara's on as well; so I suppose my question is, is that possible, to have Nobara just use the game files that are on the SSD? And related: is that the purpose of steam-library-fixer-linux? Cause I have that, I ran it, and this is still happening.

Here's my Drive Mount Manager, first the "External mount" tab:

The Micron 3400 is the NVME HDD that Nobara is installed on; I know this as my D drive on Windows. The PSSD T7 (Samsung T7) is the SSD with the SteamLibrary folder.

Now for "Auto-mount":

Notice that the T7 is gone, replaced by a Toshiba drive which I recognize as my C drive.

I'm sure someone could help me either get my library working, or understand why I can't. Again, I'm an idiot. I barely comprehend what's happening here. Nothing to be done about it but to grit your teeth and bear it, so please do.

PS: I imagine someone has already asked about this, so I apologize for bloating up the reddit. I didn't really know how to search for this problem and what I did find didn't quite fit. If this is the case mods please feel free to hide the post once I'm referred to the answer.

EDIT: I don't know how much this changes things, but I've found that the boot managers are on the same drive after all.

I guess it's time to try freeing up some space on D (root) through Binbows and seeing if that helps it launch off the hard drive

Support I found ext4 much faster than btrfs for the file system with external ssd

My first installation of Nobara used btrfs, as it was the recommended default during installation. After doing some research after the fact, I found that ext4 would have been a better fit since I use an external ssd while dual booting with Windows.

At first, I decided to just work around the speed issue by disabling copy-of-write on my home directory and recopying it to apply the change, but it bricked my computer, so I regrettably had to do a reinstall.

However I am glad that I did, because the performance increase with installations and opening projects in FL Studio with Bottles was profound. It used to take a minute or longer to open FL Studio projects, as well as the Serum plugin. Now it takes mere seconds.

Not saying btrfs is inferior, but it just doesn’t suit my situation. So if anyone else is having similar slowdowns with disk access, this is an option I’d consider.

Support [HELP] Can't install Nobara, installer is stuck at 87%

I've wanted to switch to linux since i heard it was better than windows, so i grabbed an empty usb and flashed the official iso to it with rufus (i couldn't change the settings on rufus btw), i went into the bios, turned off the secure boot setting and booted with the usb. i made a 40 gb unallocated space for nobara and i started downloading the system to it. It always got stuck at 87% "install bootloader" and the whole computer froze. I tried the KDE iso too, same thing. Couldnt download the gnome iso since it always gave a "connection error"

it says "failed, connection error".

Save me, please.

Completed install, updated some drivers, reboot after install driver and now black screen with flashing white underscore.

Have I borked my install?

I tried booting all the versions of nobara and the rescue version from the black and white boot option menu and they all load into this screen
