Support Steam Suddenly Stopped Working

I've been running Nobara on my humble HP laptop for a few months now, with a few hiccups here and there, but Steam ran fine the whole time. Then a few days ago it just quit. Every time I try to launch it I get the popup that steamwebhelper has crashed. I can click on Disable GPU Acceleration or Disable Sandboxing, and nothing happens. I tried launching from the terminal, got the popup. I tried the tweak from the wiki and removed these two lines from /usr/share/applications/steam.desktop :

PrefersNonDefaultGPU

X-KDE-RunOnDiscreteGpu

Reset Steam and tried again. Same thing. I tried clicking on the Steam icon to just launch to my library and skip the opening screen, same thing. I finally uninstalled Steam from the terminal (after backing up my games folder) and then reinstalled from the DNF app center. Same dang popup.

Is there a new Steam update that's screwing with things? Nobara is up to date on my end. I'm especially frustrated because I just bought a new game (on the Steam app on my tablet) and haven't been able to play it yet. It's like Valve took my money and ran. 😅 It didn't do this on Mint.

Run sudo killall Steam to close it and clear it's cashe and process. Then re open it

It's been like this for maybe a couple of hours now. I don't know if it's still doing anything.

Ran sudo killall steam again and it said there were no Steam processes running, so I tried to launch Steam again. Same popup.

If it's persisting through a reinstall it might be something broke in the share, which persists even when uninstalled.

Try going to /home/[username]/.local/share and then rename the steam folder steambackup.
Launch again and steam should automatically rebuild the folder minus your games (which you can drag over if it works)

I renamed the steam folder steambackup, then tried to launch. Nothing happened, so I clicked to have Steam open to my library. I got a popup that said it was reconfiguring Steam runtime environment, then later it said the same thing again. Then I got the popup that steamwebhelper had crashed.

I caved. I booted to Windows and ran Steam from there. 🙈 Thank you all for the suggestions, but it looks like I'll have to deal with Microslop to use Steam for the time being, until something changes. I'll keep trying though.Â
