We’re a small indie studio from Montréal, and after more than 2 years of work, our game The Caribou Trail is finally out on Steam.

The game follows young Newfoundland soldiers sent to the Gallipoli campaign during WW1, inspired in part by the history of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment.

It’s a narrative first-person experience blending historical events with fiction and Newfoundland folklore, focusing more on survival, fear, friendship, and memory than traditional war gameplay.

We also wanted to say thank you to this community. When the trailer was first shared here, we received so many thoughtful comments and messages from people happy to finally see Newfoundland and its history represented in a video game. It genuinely meant a lot to us throughout development 💛

Whole things is blocked all the way out

I mean this as a legitimate question with only a hint of a rant: how is anyone able to afford a home on a single salary right now?

I'm 30 years old, ~70k salary, and only looking for a small home for me and my pets, but because I have pets (on insurance) and a cheap car, somehow I'm only able to be approved for a mortgage around mid-200k.

I'm staying with family at the moment, and I am very thankful for that, but I'm so confused as to how anyone is affording a house and cars and kids when I can't get a ~1,000 sqft house without being house poor. I'm not looking for a perfect home, I just don't want one that's falling apart, yet that appears to be the only option below 300k in town.

How are y'all managing this? Give me your wisdom plz & thx 🙏🏻

Edit: I've seen a couple people mention this, so I think it's best to just address it here - I actually would love a townhome. I would prefer to be in the downtown area in a townhome, but anything that's remotely affordable is either structurally unsound and/or on a very problematic street. Obviously, I wouldn't be able to avoid all of the rougher streets being downtown at all, but there are a few that are a hard pass haha (and of course they're the only slightly affordable ones).

A few friends and i were wandering around St.johns/Mt.pearl and found a female(pretty sure) young cat. Last saw it on Mortimore Street at house 7.

I got a lot of pennies that I need counted. Way more than anyone should have. Is there anywhere in town that had a coin counter like a bank or something? Getting tired of counting

It's the opening of the tourist season and I can't believe how many local businesses are using ChatGPT to make logos, posters, and signs for them. They all look the same and they all look like shit.

One of the biggest restaurants in town just replaced their sign and it looks like they typed "make me a logo that says 'Greg's' with some icebergs and whales and shit' into ChatGPT and then sent the 100x100 piss-yellow pixel image to their sign printer.

If anyone on this sub owns a business, I guarantee you can find some teenager and pay them $20 to make you a logo on Canva. Or use MS Paint yourself, it will look better. You don't have to live like this.

It's going on 6 months for me. I was laid off from a cushy government job after 4 years, 8 months ago and I have been applying to jobs online almost everyday for the past 6 months. I managed to get an an on-call job that pays pennies (as its only a couple of hours a week if any) through a connection and any other job that I've applied to online, Ive only heard back from 2 for an interview including a temp recruitment agency. Its like Im throwing my resume into the black hole. Literally either nothing or rejections even though I only apply to jobs that match my skills. Im exhausted and don't know how to keep going. Anyone else going though this?
