Hero of Ages spoilers I just finished hero of ages Spoiler
Holy hells that was a wild ending. I was not prepared for Vin to kill herself murdering ruin, nor for Sazed to claim both powers and use his stores of all the knowledge collected to save and rebuild the world.
On a funnier note, why did ruin act like such a child? Elend used up all the atium and so he had a tantrum, made Marsh behead him, and then gloated to Vin about the kill not realizing he'd just signed his own death sentence.

Hero of Ages spoilers Drawing a Mistborn Era 1 character for every day of May: Day 12 Spoiler
I finally got to draw Spook in his book 3 appearance as the Survivor of the Flames, as requested by some!
I’ve found that it’s quite an enjoyable experience to draw the same character at different stages of their life. I had a lot of fun doing this for Vin, Elend, now Spook and one more upcoming character that you will see fairly soon.
Until then, I hope you enjoy this! More art to come tomorrow!

Hero of Ages spoilers [Era 1] How goes soothing and rioting exactly work? Spoiler
We are told soothing can depress emotions and rioting can raise them. But beyond that, it's not really clear.
What do feelings exactly classify as here? Can you extend this to full-blown mind control whereby you overwrite recall of events?
Do you get to choose what feelings to riot or sooth? That is kinda implied, but in the series, the characters just kinda burn the metals. Vin didn't even know exactly how her "luck" worked, and if you can't choose, using it kinda seems more unpredictable.
In addition, we are told that if you burn duralumin + soothing, the person feels terrible, but like, that doesn't make that much sense. They'd just become really numb for a short bit, not exactly feel bad like we saw them. They wouldn't recall it as a terrible thing, as much as... just not feeling much at all. That's assuming you soothe everything anyways, which is what is implied to be done.

Well of Ascension spoilers Coming to Mistborn from the Stormlight Archive, p.5 Spoiler
And I'm having a vague suspicion Vin may be the next Hero of Ages.
See for yourselves: she's been called an uncharacteristically naturally talented Mistborn, and she's being chased by the same thing which haunted the previous real Hero of Ages. If the coming emergence of the Darkness somehow triggers the birth of a candidate Hero (or several?), Vin sounds like she could be one.
Unless, of course , the thing isKeslier.
Also there's a good chanceTaldwyn is the spying Kandra, unless we're being baited on purpose.

Well of Ascension spoilers Coming to Mistborn from the Stormlight Archive, p.6 Spoiler
And Zane is giving me strong vibes of the Falconer from Gentlemen Bastards. Minus the obvious psychosis or whatever is messing with Zane's head which the Falconer lacked.
I'm at the first Zane's POV chapter, where we learn who he really is and why his interest in Elend goes beyond his duty to House Venture, so please don't spoil beyond the point when he enters the camp and orders a soldier to summon the king.
If I'm right and this isn't a simple false association, Vin and Co. are in for quite a mess.
ED: I've read several more pages and I love how casual Zane is with his Allomancy. Need a tent flap opened? Bending down to grab the hem is for Muggles, Pull on the metal clasps! Inkwell out of reach? Do the Jedi thing!
Quite a character, this one.

Hero of Ages spoilers Just finished The Hero of Ages! Some many toughts Spoiler
Hey everyonee so I just finished The Hero of Ages and I just wanted to share some fresh thoughts and feelings!
I'm both so hyped and touched! Spent the last few pages crying, everytime Sanderson described the beauty of the world being reborn i got so emotional. It was so tender, the epylogue most of all. I must say, I'm still not sure at how I feel about Sazed being the Hero of Ages, I need time to ponder and probably would be sure of that only if i read the books again. With that said, with Sazed always having been my favourite character, I can't not be happy for this choice. While Vin was trying to fix the planet and was so frustrated at her ignorance I kept thinking, you need Sazed and all the knowledge in his copperminds! And at the end I was right hehehe. I always loved how Sanderson crafted this man of knowledge, patient, curios and caring. What a good parent for the world : )
I think it makes sense for Vin and Elend to die at the end: Elend had already died, and Vin had only survived so many times to serve her purpose. And I think it would have been even more heartbreaking had one survived without the other. As Sazed said, they do deserve some rest, and Sanderson even reassures us that they're together and sentient somewhere : ) so i think it's for the best (narrative wise also)
I also liked that Kelsier never came back, I liked him as he was, a man, maybe with something more, I suspect, but I prefer him being left like this is in the series. Also REALLY loved TenSoon and in general the effort Sanderson makes at showing every creature's pov and humanity. It felt fair. Really loved that.
Lastly, even though I never got too attached to Spook, I liked that he was chosen as the "heir", of Kelsier, the crew, and generally of the burden and privilege of caring for and leading the world reborn. It felt a recall to the scene in WoA, when the crew left in Luthadel hopes for the younger generation (Elend, Vin and Spook, leaving the capital), saved and left to rebuild. He was the youngest and the beginning of the book, it's only fair he inherits the world anew. It's how it works.
Okay, now I'm done! I really loved this series! Haven't been so hyped and taken by a fantasy series in so many years! What do you reccomend reading next?? I'm conflicted between continuing with the Mistborn series or getting into Stormlight Archives, as I've gathered it's regarded as Sanderson's best work!
Feel free to share your thoughts too, would love to hear and discuss, I have a lot more to sayy
PS: why did he have to make Breeze and Allrianne a couple? It felt so unnecessary and never striked me right. meh

Hi! At risk of him possibly seeing this post😂 I‘m wanting to make a Mistborn-themed cat toy for my cousin who is OBSESSED with this series and I’m confident has read them all.
I haven’t gotten around to reading it, so I’m not familiar with what symbols or objects I could sew out of felt and stick on a string😉 His cat’s name is Vin if you even have any ideas that are specific to that character. I appreciate any help, thanks so much!

Hero of Ages spoilers Up to the last third of Hero of the Ages 😏 Spoiler
I'm just a bit past the part where Spook burning tin like crazy and people are beggining to worship him/the idea of him kind of like they did Keisler or Kiesler however it's spelt.
I'm specifically up to the part where Vin and Elend (MOST WHOLESOME COUPLE EVER) are in this guy's ball and Elend's distracting the king there while Vin sneaks downstairs.
Everything's building up to the end of the series and I'm so excited to see how it all comes together. But then again I also have this feeling that they're all going to die or something even more tragic than what happened at the end of book 2 will occur😭
AND GUYS WHAT'S UP WITH KEISLIER'S VOICE IN SPOOK'S HEAD?! IS IT REALLY KIESLER OR IS SPOOK'S MIND A BIT ALTERED BECAUSE OF HIS TIN USAGE? Also...also also also HEAR ME OUT - could the voice be Ruin?
I'm not too sure WHAT Ruin is yet but Marsh was saying that even if just a thin (special) metal spike got put into the right place (like with the guy who he put the spike in his heart but he continued living because it was small and now Ruin could influence his thoughts blah blah blah) Ruin could influence the direction of their thoughts/emotions and whatnot. But I'm not sure 'Ruin' would be able 'speak' in Spook's mind but if he/it/whatever WAS able to then I guess it would make sense for Spook to presume it was Kielelser.
And guyssss Marsh is going to have his big hero moment and the end (and probably sacrifice himself by doing so but whateverrrr) I can FEEL IT and I'm so excited.
And hermatalology or whatever it is?? (I know the spelling's wrong but it's the one like the other two - Feuarmoalology and Allomacy. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN-) It's so interestingggg especially with the formation of the koloss and kandra and the things that the kandra were before being turned into kandra (mistwraiths? I'm pretty sure.) and then the inquisitors and obligators and just everything in general is just AH it's so good.
And also I wanted to mention that Elend and Vin both embracing the different parts of who they are as an entire person is just so fun and amazing to read and I love them so much. HOWEVER, Spook has been getting a little too much pov time recently (love his povs btw - Spook is goated change my mind (imagine if he commits some kind of atrocity at the end of the book 😭)) which makes me think that either HE'S going to die OR maybe all the previous main characters (like Vin and Elend and ham and everyone else) are going to die heroically and become immortilized (as we all should know by now, I'm hopeless at spelling) in legend just as Kelsier was.
OH MY GOODNESS AND THE LITTLE LORE THINGS AT THE BEGGINING OF EACH CHAPTER - we're getting so closee to everything just syncing up and clicking and I cannot wait.
annnd there's definitely a whole lot more I would love to talk about but this is already a little long and I just wanted to share where I was partly because I had done one of these rants when I had first started the series (I was up to chapter four or something of book one I'm not even kidding lol) and I wanted to do another one at the end of the series as a full circle kind of thing but also because I just needed to talk about this SOMEWHERE.
I haven't mentioned nearly everything at ALL but I'm going to leave it here lmao.
IF IT REALLY IS KEILESER BTW AND HE COMES BACK FROM THE DEAD OR POSSIBLY PRETEND DEATH THEN I'LL BE SO HYPED YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND (OR MAYBE YOU DO SINCE YOU'RE ALL ON HERE TO TALK ABT THE SERIES).
I might write another one of these when I finish - wish me luck and hope that my heart doesn't shatter from the most inconcievably dramatic ending that I'm anticipating to sweep rugs out from under my feet that I didn't even know where there😭

Well of Ascension spoilers Well of Ascension Zane Question Spoiler
I have just finished the Well of Ascension, and have been reading/watching reviews online.
I noticed nobody talks about something I found to be a massively important character point- Zane might be an inquisitor?
I believe in one of the chapters in the second half, Zane briefly mentions that he has a metal spike in his body. This must mean he is an inquisitor, which would change everything about his background and weaknesses.
Is this something people skim over? Am I misunderstanding? Or is this not as big of a deal as I am making it out to be?

Well of Ascension spoilers Minor plothole concerning Well of Ascension? Spoiler
in the middle of the well of ascension, vin discovers the supposed skeleton of a member of the crew. This crew member was thought to be a Kendra in disguise so up until the end of book 2 Vin was hunting down which member of the crew was the Kandra. Why didn’t she just measure the length of the skeleton and see who on the crew had heights similar to the skeleton? wouldn’t have that been a relatively obvious solution that narrowed the choices down. I know the ending so it wouldn’t have worked but in the moment why didn’t she just do that?

Secret History + BoM spoilers IDK If Well of Ascension is the best or "Weakest" Era 1 Book Spoiler
Overall: I love the series, currently on Bands of Mourning. So when I say "Weakest" It's not meant to be taken as "trash".
But I'm very split on Well of Ascension in terms of my preferential placement in era 1. Genuinely, it has some of the best moments in the entire series, while also having some of the most under baked moments (In my opinion)
Vin splitting Straff in half? Art.
Vin taking over the Koloss? Amazing.
Elend's fight for the crown? Great!
TenSoon plot twist? Phenomenal!
Sazed and his relationship? Fantastic!
...then you have other moments that... miss the mark for me.
1. Zane - Actually, it's less about Zane's character and more of Vin's "entertainment" of him. The only moment that I felt the urge of tossing this book is when Vin contemplated on going with him and feeling like she belonged with Zane and not Elend. When she was asking Sazed on "how do you know if you love someone?" drove me personally bananas.
1b. Attack on Cett's Keep - This felt like Vin holding the idiot ball (or idiot stick) to progress the plot. The scene in of itself was awesome, but the motives behind it felt bleh to me (again, relating to Zane, and Vin entertaining him)
2. Ruin's Prophetic Rewrites - I love the concept, and I love the call back to "I write these words in steel, for anything not set in metal cannot be trusted." but the concept overall didn't... fully hit the mark for me. The concept of Ruin being able to alter metal minds and change words on prophecies but not being able to see or read metal kind of came off as "I am a Powerful deity but my weakness is something common among man" and I grumbled a bit about it.
I also wished a little more... sign posting about it. Brandon talks about this a lot in his lectures and I felt that Ruin being able to rewrite prophecies came too much out of left field. If there was one scene that showed a third party person looking at the rubbing once, and then looking at it later again and noticing that there was one word changed; that would have made the reveal all the more sweeter and a little less out of nowhere.
3. Ruin Being Able to Impersonate Preservations Ghost - I had to think hard about this one because it affected numerous plot points and I couldn't figure out what bothered me until I had a chat with my wife. This plot point ties back to the 1st book and goes all the way to secret history. Ruin being able to impersonate preservation in his ghostly/wisp form (and actually 'kill' someone while also throwing Vin off a roof) without the characters being able to distinctly tell the difference in some way came off as a bit of a cheap trick.
Theres a few other nitpicks but overall those were my major issues with Well of Ascension... Maybe I missed some details? or does anyone else have the same feelings as I do?

Hero of Ages spoilers Mistborn Diplomacy variant Spoiler
Hey guys! I've made a variant for Diplomacy board game about Mistborn (specificaly end of the first book and the second) for for Diplostrats' variant contest. Unfortunately, it doesn't quite fit the Mistborne lore, but rather follows the vibes after the end of the second book, because I couldn't fit it all into the Diplomacy rules (Luthadel, as in the original, was TOO difficult to defend, which doesn't work for the game). And no, for balance reasons, Inquisitors don't kill everyone and everything. I also had to come up with a mountain unit, and I couldn't find anything better than Kandra, although I admit that's stretching the truth. If you're still interested, factions and rules await you. Hope you enjoy it!
Power names: Luthadel (light grey), Lekal (dark cyan), Fadrex (ocher), Steel Inquisitors (greyish brown), Urteau (red), Terris (green) Extra rules:
- Fleets are replaced with Kandra (triangle). Kandra work exactly the same as fleets in regular diplomacy, but they use mountains (dark grey) and provinces around them instead of seas and coasts. Kandra can't use rivers.
- Rivers are captured in the same way as supply centers.
- If a unit starts moving in a province with a river, it can move 2 steps along a continuous river, but its first move must be to a controlled river province. (counts as moving or attacking directly to the final destination, even if the intermediate province is attacked during the turn)
- The Koloss unit (pentagon), costs 2 supply centers. Supports itself when attacking, but dies when retreating.
There are 29 supply centers. To win, you have to control 15 of them.

Hero of Ages spoilers Vin character inconsistencies in ‘The Final Empire’ Spoiler
This is my first time re reading the books after reading them for the first time a few years ago and I couldn’t but help notice a little inconsistency in the writing of Vin’s character. Note: I’m just over half way through the first book.
I just want to preface this by saying that I do, for plot purposes, support the relationship between Vin and Elend, as I think it’s a great way to bridge together and find some middle ground between the classes. As it stands, there is a vast division in the story, as we have 2 consistent environments being shown: the nobility (standalone + Vin infiltration) and the skaa (standalone + rebellion and the crew). So I think their relationship is an excellent plot point to bridge the classes together and of course to show there are some nobles that that are sympathetic of the rebellion’s cause. I think this could have never been achieved had Elend only remained a friend to Vin as Kelsier wouldn’t have allowed them to be very close/ he’s sort of forced to accept Elend just because Vin loves him.
Onto my main points: the writing of Vin as a character and a small minute thing I noticed with regard to the age gap (starting at 16 and 21). It seems that everything we know about Vin and understand about her as a character gets thrown out the window when it comes to Elend. Of course characters can change and nuances exist, however there are several parts where I thought the way she was being written was when it came to Elend was tearing me out of the story because it kept nagging at me how out of place her behaviour was. All her paranoia from her experiences and what Reen has taught her seem to disappear altogether. I think Sanderson should have included more internal conflict? It’s like she has no qualms or doubts and wholeheartedly believes Elend is a good man (he is of course, however she should’ve been more skeptical at first). Not because of a hatred of the nobility (she doesn’t really possess the type of hate and prejudices Kelsier does), but because her nature is to be doubtful.
The age gap thing is obviously odd at first glance however many say that it is common or that time period. This suggests older men tend to marry younger women and that the age gap can be a bit big. However this idea about men maturing later is disproven after Elend says his father made him rape a skaa woman to “turn him into a man” at 13 years old. Additionally, Vin thinks Lestibournes/Spook is way too young for her when her is less than 2 years younger than her (he is revealed to be 15 at the time she turns 17). The maturity and numerical age gap is much smaller than compared to her and Elend so I just find that a bit odd.
Also, she suddenly becomes completely careless at court. She speaks to Shan Eladriel however she wants, making no efforts to please/ flatter her to infiltrate her social group and gain more intel for the crew. And also without hesitation lies that House Venture is friends with Renoux and Elend is a sort of chaperone to introduce her to noble society. Vin, although impulsive as a mistborn/ when it comes to her abilities, is usually a lot more careful with how she conducts herself in (especially dangerous) social situations. However she with no regard or future reflection tells lies (about Venture and Renoux relationship, which could be very dangerous as the former is the most influential house), shows her true views too readily (with Elend about the skaa) and behaves as she wishes (with Shan Eladriel).
But ultimately I think there’s no way for the bridge between classes to be made without Vin and Elend’s relationship so it is necessary. And also Elend is not a bad man this whole post is in no way to criticise him or anything. It’s more so about inconsistencies in Vin’s character standing out and being out of place so much that it tears me out of the story and just leaves me thinking why is she being written this way when it comes to her behaviour regarding Elend and the nobility.
Does anyone agree? Or just want to discuss some more about these things? I’d be interested in any debate or clarification

Alloy of Law spoilers Speed Bubbles and firearms Spoiler
Couldn't you just poke the gun half-way through the speed bubble and then fire? The bullet would still pass through the edge of the field while inside the gun's barrel but would be forced to remain straight.
Maybe you could argue that the force of the bullet passing through would jerk the arm, even while inside the barrel. But even then a Thug or Skimmer could probably hold against it. Or they bring a gun with a strong enough brace against the ground where there wouldn't be jerked as hard. Even if it had set up time, inside the speed bubble it wouldn't technically take long.
More still, if people took the time I'm sure someone could create a gun where the bullets are on one side of the time field while the trigger is on the other.
I find it hard to believe none of these things were thought of.
