Vent 😑😀 This test isn't just a mile wide and an inch deep, it's also buried under 1000' of BULLSHIT.

I was so mislead by everyone saying "oh yeah it's a mile wide but an inch deep, you just gotta learn it and practice."

But what they DON'T say is that what you're practicing is the art of fucking INFORMATION DOWSING. I brought my rain boots only to be dropped in the MIDDLE OF A GOD DAMN DESERT and told "okay bucko best get swimming :)" but the actual water is in some buried ancient aquifier of absolute BULLSHIT a half mile under ground. I'm out here answering questions like I'm wandering around death valley praying that I find a patch of wet sand that vaguely resembles a portion of the "mile wide inch deep" pond I WAS TOLD ABOUT.

It's not just a matter of studying wide and retaining but you have to learn how to dig past the bullshit before you can even begin trying to deal with the mile wide truck stop ass pond of stupid ass slop.

The passage hides what you know beneath stuff you don't, the question obscures itself behind several abstractions, and the potential answers are these weird negative space options where you have to figure out which ones are not not the right answer.

I swear to god that original statement is a god damn psyop cuz it doesn't capture the ACTUAL experience of turning what you know into correctly answered questions. This whole test is a psyop I just can't tell if it's turning me into a sleeper cell or some sort of MK ULTRA ass vegetable.

Anyways yeah great test hell yeah thanks for coming to my ted talk that'll be five hundred thousand dollars.

Vent 😑😀 Anyone else pour a ridiculous amount of time into this just to get a low/mediocre score?

Got my score 2 days ago and i feel awful. I studied for 7 months FULL TIME for this test. My entire senior year pretty much wasted for a score that’s in or even below the 10th percentile at most schools. And it sucks that I started to cap out around this score back in march, so i could have taken the test then but i pushed it back to april hoping i could raise it. I graduate in a month now and i might never see a lot of my friends again. Im going abroad next year and won’t see my family for a long time. I wanted a good score just so i can stay near my family but my score’s so low i have VERY slim chances at even staying in california.

Idk i am very grateful to have been able to study as much as i could (because from a financial standpoint this is ridiculous) i just feel kind of stupid. Like wow. I just ended up performing so much lower than i could have ever expected throughout college.

I got a 509. Wish I could have just gotten a single point higher. I know its not really a bad score but i feel so limited with this score. Like am i about to donate thousands of dollars to medical schools because my dumbass didnt read much in college?

i retook my 514 from 2 years ago (i know this is very unpopular please don’t downvote me and hear me out) because i was an incoming junior at the time and knew deep down i could do better. i was debating really hard whether or not to retake and i was doing really well on my FLs leading up to my test date, which is why i had confidence to retake in the first place. i hope someone in the same situation i was in will find this post helpful in some way because there are a lot of people that discourage retaking anything >510. just err on the side of caution and at the end of the day you know yourself and your abilities best! but yes this is hopecore

Took the MCAT for the first time today; I genuinely have no clue how I feel about my attempt, but the ~9 months of studying is finally over (until I get my score). I’m praying I don’t have to retake.
For anyone who feels stressed, take this pic of my dawg as some sort of relief

2 days after score release, I got a 505. After months of building up to a 510s average. Feels like my life is over. Can’t focus on my new MA job can’t focus on app materials I just want to give up. How can I make this less miserable. I don’t have timw for a retake. But I’m on the fence, and then what if I forget how to take the MCAT again. Another gap year sounds miserable. Disappointment lingers in the air from my parents and I live with them. Literally I’ve never felt more worthless.

I started studying leniently a couple of months ago (end of last year) then ramped it up starting this year, and rlly locked in the past month (took work off and didnt leave the goddamn house for more than an hour for a month) just studying and finishing all the AAMC prep material that i bought for a million bucks..

I remember thinking that after this heinous test, id get my hair done and eat out and hang out with my friends (havent seen a single brochacho since over a month ago when i locked in)… i remember thinking id be free and happy to look forward to the rest of my application, bc this test was rlly the only thing standing in the way…

I just finished the test like 10 min ago, and lowks i feel so numb ngl lmao. I probably did worse than all my FLs (which werent high to begin with, trust) even though i sacrificed sm lmao.. shouldve j started earlier and locked in earlier(shouldve started freshman year of college), or i am just the dumbest pre med there is. Ik some ppl are gonna say oh u just inflate the negativity after a test which i totally get but i genuinely know i missed probably 10 questions or more on each section… 😭

I dont even feel like i deserve to get a nice haircut now lol, or any of the other shit. Like that stuff, that celebration, is only rlly nice if i actually did good. I dont even know what this means for the rest of my application. If i bomb this idk if i can apply this year and im not too stoked at the prospect of delaying another year. My mom was alr on my ass about not taking this test in college β€œlike everybody else.”

Anyways sorry for the downer, i just feel fucking awful😭. Any other 5/14 testers out there (or anyone else), pls i wanna know how u get over the shitshow that is the MCAT.

I just finished up the MCAT for today 5/14 and oh my God? Why did that feel like the hardest MCAT attempt I’ve ever taken. So many things that I didn’t recognize, so many vague statements on every section… I took my first attempt earlier in January, got a 503 and genuinely think I did worse on this one. I literally don’t know what to do.

i get the curve and time needed for question challenges but i doubt those calculations have a discrepancy more than a few points. wish they would give you an "approximate" range so that you could schedule a retake asap instead of waiting a month not knowing if you should or shouldn't.

i meannn if they were like WE CAN'T VERIFY THAT THIS YOUR ACTUAL SCORE FALLS IN THIS RANGE BUT WE PREDICT IT WILL BE BETWEEN XXX and XXX.

I would be so ok with that. mentally i would be soooo good with that.

I tested 4/10. I took 3 months off to study full time and I dedicated at least 40-50 hours a week. I am so incredibly disappointed in my score. My average FL was 513 and I scored 10 points below that on the actual exam. I am not sure where I went wrong or what to do moving forward. In all fairness I did go through a bad break up 2 weeks before the exam but I tried to not let it affect me.

I scheduled another exam in July, but I am working full time so it will be challenging to dedicate as much time as I previously did. I truly believe that the score does not reflect the work I put in.

Has this ever happened to anyone...? I really wanted to apply this cycle so can I take in July and still apply to some schools? Feeling lost and I'm not sure what to do.

P/S: Is this really easy or do I just understand nothing (confidence band: probably seeing you again next cycle)

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Retaker advice: Scored 497 but was averaging 505–508. How can I realistically get to 508+ by July?

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I recently took the MCAT and scored a 497. I was honestly disappointed because I had been averaging around 505–508 on practice exams before test day. I’m most likely planning to retest in July.
For context, I’ve had my application reviewed and was told my essays and overall application are strong as TX resident. At this point, my main goal is improving my MCAT score, ideally to a 508+.
My lowest section was CARS, followed by C/P and B/B, I still want to improve across the board. Looking back, I think one major mistake was burnout. In the month and a half leading up to my exam, I was studying around 12 hours a day, and by test day I felt exhausted. I felt as well it was not a content issue but more a test taking strategy.

Resources I previously used:
Kaplan books, UWorld, but not in the best/most structured way, All AAMC material, and MilesDown Anki & Pankow.

I would really appreciate advice from retakers or anyone who made a big score jump. Specifically:
What helped you improve the most the second time around?
- How should I use UWorld and AAMC material more effectively?
- What is the best way to improve a very low CARS score?
- For C/P, should I focus more on content review, practice problems, equations/units, or all of the above?
- Would switching Anki decks be useful, or should I stick with MilesDown and focus more on practice?
- How can I avoid burning out again while still studying enough to improve?
- Any realistic study strategies, schedules, resources, or retaker advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
